Awesome. You used selective color very well. A lot of times people will use a technique like this to try to create something out of nothing. I think you successfully used it when it NEEDED to be done. Very, very nice image. You should try to market this one to the concert hall or promoters of the show.

nessie. photoshop could do all that with actions. Except being consistant when selecting out the background. should have done it all in amorphium.... where it looks like clay, you can animate it right in the program and render it as several different formats including flash.... oh yeah also you can render it as individual frames with masking already done....oops you didn't want to hear that. ....cut!

My guess about the lighting would be that they are typical street lights. High intensity discharge lamps containing sodium vapor and/or mercury vapor. These gasses often make up the green and orange hues on film due to their lack of a wide spectral range. Almost impossible to filter these types of lights. Corrections can be made, but an image like this REALLY benefits from the odd light colors. This image would not have been as strong in black and white or with a "daylight" colored light source. Great use of unfiltered "non-photographic" lighting. .....end communication

Another wierd thing to try is called cross-processing. Shoot your slide film normally, then get it processed as if it were regular c-41 neg film. Some very wierd color shifts depending on the film you use. It might take some negotiating, but if you can convince your photolab that this WILL NOT screw up their c-41 chemistry it is definately worth trying. I'll post if i can find my shots.

When you go back, you should also try a horizontal shot. Maybe you already have some(if so, post them pleeze I'd like to see). Another thing to try is longer shutter speeds. A shutter speed of 1/2 sec or longer can give that wierd silky blurred motion to the water. Maybe you already knew that since you said your exposure was off. Oh well just some thoughts from a landscape geek.

When shooting landscape, Always use a tripod. Now that you have your location scouted out, you can go back ; )
