Thread: Rendering for Print | Forum: Carrara
This whole process is really simple as pie. I understand there is a lot of confusion but there is a way to make Carrara render great images everytime for print at the size you seek/need. This is the only thing I use Carrara for---CMYK print images. A. Go into Photoshop. Find out what the image size you are after is in pixels at 300 dpi. B. Then go inside Carrara/render/output and enter the pixels you got from Photoshop. Keep the resolution inside Carrara at 72 dpi and then select keep proportions. Pixel aspect ratio remains at 1. C. Then render. The output image will be a very large 72 dpi image. D. Open it in Photoshop (it will be a large 72 dpi image -- not 300 dpi [yet]) and set the inches to what you are after and E. then set it to 300 dpi. For press work don't use images below 300 dpi. It is better to stick with the STANDARD when going to press. I promise peoples eyes will pick-up the difference if you use lower resolution images for the press. Hey, but go ahead and experiment if you are into unexpected and less than perfect results. This method produces wonderful sharp images ready for print after you convert to CMYK of course. It works without fail everytime. No need for any extra confusion or effort. I feel the goal is the END RESULT (predictable and good). There is a lot to get confused about if you let it. Go to the thread: "Hard drive meltdown?" as this was dicussed in length Good Luck, steama

Hey sailor ed. I just read the same thing in the manual. I would love it if this feature would work. I am using Carrara 3. When I try to enter the desired units (inches or centimeters) it does not work. The fields won't accept input of any units of measurement, just numbers. Any tips to make this work like the manual states? steama

I do ALL my images high resolution for print at 8.75" X 11.25" (to account for bleed --- The trim size is 8.5" X 11"). What I do is set my Carrara render output to match the Photoshop pixel size/count I am after. For example an 8.75" X 11.25" image at 300 dpi is 2635 pixels by 3375 pixel (inside Photoshop). In Carrara I set the render output pixel size to 2635 pixels by 3375 pixels at 72 dpi. That was 72 dpi NOT 300 dpi (if you input 300dpi you will be sorry). Select Keep Proportions and your image should turn out to be about 33.8 mb. Not that bad for a single image. I then render the image, usually as a tif. When the render is complete I take the image into Photoshop. The image size is 36.458 inches x 46.875 inches at 72 dpi inside Photoshop. I Then change the size to what I am after. All I do is constrain the proportions and set it to 8.75" X 11,25" at 300 dpi and I have high resolution image high enough for high end printing. It ususally does not even take very long to render.

I feel color scheme comes off too dark and similar. Everything has a flat dark color feel. I would try to punch up some brighter and maybe complimentary colors. Maybe some well placed lights to show the color that is already there but brighter. Bring out some greens.
Other than that I think it's a great image. Very imaginative.

Thread: Carrara vs other 3D software ??? | Forum: Carrara
Dollar for dollar Carrara offers excellent bang for the buck! Simply EXCELLENT. Maybe the best in the 3D world dollar for dollar. Of course there are very expensive 3D apps out there. It is surprising how well Carrara even compares to some of these.
Carrara is also very (ultra) easy. It offers you many ways to get started. You do not need to start from scratch with Carrara Studio 3. It has some awesome presets that can be easily edited and using your own 3d stuff too.
To me the only different thing about Carrara are its modeling tools. Even they are pretty darn good though. Just unique. Which is good. I am always impressed a what people create with Carrara.
Carrara 3 is a very special 3d application. I own it even though I am into other 3d applications also. It is that good and that unique dollar for dollar. It will pay for itself.

I agree with souleat. Nothing is bad about a naked body. This is a great site even with ads that some find offensive/dumb. Free speech is great especially for artists. If the ads bother you, you can simply bookmark a page to this forum and avoid seeing them. Where is Salvador Dali when you need him? (I am from America---no need to forgive me) LOL

I just bookmark a link to this forum and I avoid all ads whether they bother me or not (I never have to see a single ad if I choose not to---raunchy or clean). Of course this is the only place on Renderosity I go all the time. I have looked at the ads and find them more stupid than offensive. The ads are most often good for a laugh or two or three. ONE SOLUTION: Just bookmark a link to this forum and avoid most of the ads.

I think the ads are very benign and minor. Nothing I would hide from anybodies grandma (seriously). LOL I can't believe anyone is offended at all Just sharing Steama
