Subject: Carrara 5 using Hexagon 2 models

Hi All,

Has anybody been using Hexagon 2 models inside Carrara 5? Specifically Hexagon 2 models using UV Unfold, painted texture mapping and displacement.

If so how has it been working out? Do you find the two application totally compatible at this point?

I am wondering how well these applications are working together as I have seen very little produced with the two applications working together since the Hexagon 2 release. Especially using the new Hexagon 2 features of UV mapping tools, texture mapping and displacement.

Just Curious,
Steama

The only problem I find is the seam split after applying displacement. It's a known bug and I'm sure they're working on it. Otherwise it seems to work fine.

Well, it's been right at 2 weeks since hex2 release so it may take a bit. 😄

Thanks guys for the response.

That is what I am thinking. I am prepared to wait for version 2.1. I'm sure that will be the ticket.

Patience I guess. I don't want this to be rushed.

So far, with the time I have, I've been able to UV unfold models in Hex 2 after a lot of trial and error and have managed to import the models as OBJ into Carrara 5 with their UV maps imported correctly.

Yes.  It takes awhile to figure out.  But it is do-able.

I have found that I forget to validate when using displacement and then lose it so I am glad I have been practicing. You can't get it back with undo either. So if you have beeen working for awhile and then change tools or several other things you can lose it. However, I am getting a bit better with both. UV stuff is never easy tho no matter what you use. There is an art to it.
