I import .lwo up to version 5 in Bryce 4 all the time, with absolutely no problem. LW6 has caused some problems and LW7x won't load at all. It's got to be the version differences in LW that are the problem.
Thread: Hellllllllllp.......... | Forum: Poser Technical
Seems to me that almost every time I download a poser file that has an obj file under the Geometries folder, it opens ONCE and then the rsr file is corrupted and it won't open again until I delete the rsr and re-open. After the 2nd time it usually works ok from then on. I've never been able to figure out why poser always screws up the rsr the first time around. For that matter, since Poser can open the obj's when there's no rsr file present, why the hell does it have to make the damn rsr's (which seem to cause EVERYBODY trouble) in the first place? I've been so fed up with it I'm almost tempted to put a .bat file in the Geometries folder telling it to "delete *.rsr" in all the geometries subfolders and run that EVERY time before I turn on Poser.

Thread: Increase interface size to fill whole screen? | Forum: Bryce
If you set your screen to maximum in Bryce, the file menu is NOT hidden, but appears plainly. I have always used Bryce this way and have had no difficulties. I have found, by accident, that hitting Ctrl-Tab will toggle back & forth between the maximum & other display settings. Check the 3-fold reference card that came with Bryce, it has the keyboard shortcuts for dozens of features, including display settings.
Thread: Welcome to America! Right! | Forum: Community Center
The admins can check ISP's. I think in cases like this there should be an official announcement of ALL the clones AND the original ID of the offender so EVERYONE can see exactly who is wasting all our time with this bullshit. Then the perp should be banned in ALL incarnations.
Thread: The Ugly American (or how to alienate newcomers) | Forum: Community Center
Yeah, this whole thing has degenerated into pointless idiocy and INSULTING bullshit. It's a CLASSIC example of somebody creating a clone account for the sole purpose of stirring up trouble while leaving his primary ID "clean".
Thread: ... but is it ART? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I work with Poser but do all my rendering in Bryce. I use objects and textures that I have downloaded, but I have never yet used anything downloaded "as - is", I always make changes in the textures, frequently in the models, etc. I do sometimes model items from scratch, though my skills in that area are far from extensive. Still, if because I don't make everything I use from scratch, what I do can't be called art, then NO painting can be called art either, unless the artist 1) spins, weaves, finishes, stretches & frames his own canvas; 2) grinds ALL his own pigments from scratch (i.e. from raw mineral ores); 3) makes his brushes from scratch - including turning the handles on a lathe and gathering & processing the hair; 4) distills his own linseed oil & turpentine from sap, ... Need I go on? Tools are tools are tools are tools. It's what's done with ANY tool that constitutes art.
Thread: Dark shadow | Forum: Bryce
The shadow setting in the sky lab also affects the darkness/intensity of shadows cast by the radial and other lights - I found out by accident. Now, when I create any scene, the FIRST thing I do is go into the skylab and reset the shadows to around 40 or so. Later I usually tweak it, but I've found that the range of 40 - 50 gives the best results in most cases.
Thread: Bryce 6 anouncement - not very pleasant for some PC users | Forum: Bryce
Well, when I can finally afford to upgrade from my old P-II I want to get Win 2Kpro. I sure hope it's still available then, because there is NO WAY I will ever have XP on ANY machine I ever own. I absolutely refuse to give Microslop a total free-access back door to all my personal data and put up with their spyware disguised as an OS. I'm still on Bryce 4, guess I may never get 5 now, and the way it looks from this, Bryce6 is NOT going to be an option either. Sigh Where are the Linux developers? If they'd just get their act together and make it so it could run all windows programs, there are hundreds of thousands of people who would switch OS in a mini-micro-nanosecond.
Thread: new ratman chareter im doing at mo what ya think so far | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Looking good. I agree with the head shape suggestions, the cranium should be smaller/flatter and the chin too - make him look 'rattier'. Also, rats have 'rodent teeth' (i.e., big incisors) not fangs (big canines), so you should have the big sharp teeth together in front if you want that real 'ratty' look. Excellent work so far. The final should be interesting.
Thread: Hair in 'Figures' library rather then 'Hair'? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeppers, I've got a "Posable Hair" folder under Characters. I've also discovered that renaming prop, character, etc folders in the library with names all starting with 2 digits (i.e., 01Clothing, 02Jewelry, 03Misc etc.) I can re-order all my library subfolders in any sequence I like - helps since I now have some 50 folders under props alone, and like the ones I use most to be at the top of the list. This way I've even got all the weapons separated in different folders: 10archery, 11knives, 12swords, 13axes, etc. - anything to make life a little easier when I'm snarled in the throes of creation.
Thread: shortcut for full mode in bryce 4.1 or 4 | Forum: Bryce
Ctrl-Tab toggles back & forth between full mode and scene-window-only mode. Had it happen to me accidentally once and took quite a while jabbing keys trying to find out what the hell I'd done and how to undo it. If you don't want to do Ctrl-Tab, one of the icons in the vertical row to the right of the scene window will also toggle it. Don't remember which one right now as I'm at work and Bryce is at home.
Thread: Measurements | Forum: Bryce
Yep. For close-ups and/or indoor scenes, I use 1bu=1inch. Other times, I'll use 1bu = 1 ft. or 1bu = 1 meter. When I import a figure from Poser, it almost always comes in at 40.96bu tall. If I want it to be a scale 6ft (72 in) I can just feed in the original height (using an onscreen calculator) as a number to divide the target height by, and get a multiplier that will make it the right size. That way I can keep all my charactes and props in proportion.
Thread: Grouping Tip to Reduce Rendering Times in Bryce | Forum: Bryce
I've found that I can ungroup the objects, but leave them all selected, then open the Attributes window and set them all to neutral in a single step (just don't mess with ANYTHING else). It's quicker than having to select them individually and change them one by one. One they're set to neutral, I can just hit the Group button again.
Thread: Thumbnail Philosophy? | Forum: Bryce
For me it's exactly the opposite. If I see a thumbnail that is obviously only a small part of a picture, I simply won't click on it, having been "burned" too often in the past by deceptive thumbnails linked to poor quality pics. I always do a thumb of the full pic when I post, and frankly, I consider 'partial' or 'tease' thumbs to be deceptive, period.
