Yes, I agree, most of the disorganization comes from the downloaded content itself going all over the place. However, Daz never had any real kind of structure in place like Poser has with the runtime directory. characters in one designated place, props in another, poses here, textures there etc. Usually when it comes to Daz content, I wind up moving it around, and opening, fixing and re-saving into the new directories I make to organize it all.
Come to think of it, there is a folder template for Daz content here in Rendo Freestuff somewhere.
Thread: V4.2 [again!] How has she worked for you??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had some issues that I fixed, she works fine in Daz for me, but so did V 4.1. I really don't need the male morphs as there are a ton of male figures out already, but they might come in handy later.
Male eyes are too female looking, makes 4.2 look like a drag queen I think.

What I noticed (in D|S) is that before I cut the connection between runtimes, is that V 4.1 from the second runtime would load, but named as V 4.2. She loaded just like V 4.1, but without some of the deltas. Cutting the connection (in D|S) to the second runtime and a restart solved the problem.
Both my runtimes are on the same drive, I wonder if it makes a difference if they are on alternate drives?

Kittykat, if you're at least somewhat familiar with 3D Max, then the programs mentioned here should pose little difficulty beyond learning how each one like to do things.
As to modeling clothing, there are two programs that can do the rigging (bones). One is Poser, and the other is called Greenbriar I believe (at Daz3d). Check the Daz3d sight for their software and what each one can do. Carerra can also do rigging for Poser/Daz I believe but Hexagon can't. So with Hexagon, Anim8tor, Wings, Blender, Rhino, etc, you can make meshes that can be textured and imported into Daz, but you can't set them up with rigging so they will bend. Carerra, can do all the modeling as well as rigging I believe, or you can make your 3D object in, say, Wings, then use either Poser, or Greenbriar to do the rigging. If your making static objects for tubing you don't have to get too fancy. A freeware program will work just fine. There are forums here for Blender, Wings, and Rhino...you might try looking there for information and links. If you can't find any PM me and I'll find links for you...I don't have any in my bookmarks anymore since I rebuilt my pc.

I've been trolled like that too a few times, and it's always the same...a low rating and an "Awesome Image" kind of comment. I mean, if theres something wrong with the image, I wish people would point it out, or suggest something. I've got into some very interesting discussions with people who have honestly critiqued me, and not only did I come away with information i never had before, but I met some really decent people that way.
BTW, Lyne I like the pinup heh heh!

I've used hair by AS and it works fine in daz, and looks pretty good too. I've never had a problem with Aery-Soul stuff.

I don't mean to discourage anyone, but I'd like to say this as a bit of a heads up. If you plan on getting into making your own 3D models expect a steep learning curve and start off slow. That being said, there are plenty of free 3D programs available and a lot of tutorials out there if you look. The forums here are also a great place to start as well. I'd also like to add Anim8tor as another very versatile freeware program, plus Rhino has a demo that allows 25 saves as far as i can remember (it's been a while) It also has tutorials that are step by step.

The install will overwrite V4.1, so unless you have creature creator (like me) it isn't necessary, OR unless you have V 4.1 sitting in alternate runtimes, then you'll likely have to uninstall one of them to prevent conflicts.
Again however there are a few people who do have both running, there's got to be more than a couple of folks around here who'd like to know what they did to avoid problems. Personally, I really don't need the second v 4.1, but other people do.

If you still have issues with that SKondris and one of the other admins at the Daz forum recommend you submit a bug report. I haven't noticed it yet since I fixed my 4.1 issues, but apparently a few people have had this problem on proper installs.
Thread: V4.2 Arrives! Problems and issues shared here. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I had the same issues because of a second V 4.1 I had in a separate runtime. Although I'm using Daz and not Poser, the problems are from the same source. Daz states that V 4.1 has to be either completely overwritten or uninstalled, and that only one instance of her can be installed or there will be conflicts. Some have suggested installing to a separate runtime on a separate drive, but I haven't heard any of the results from that. Mind you, there have been a few people who have 4.2 and 4.1 running with no problems, I'm curious as to what their setup is like.

There are 4 files (2 inj poses and 2 rsr's) that need to be deleted for creature creator to work, as covered in the instructions at Daz...thats it. Both files pertain to the V4-V3 creature morphs. I did have creature issues, plus some general ones (fingers not moving body parts dissapearing) but I cleared the problem (at least temporarily) by eliminating a second runtime with V 4.1 from the Daz search directory and deleting 4.2 characters saved prior to this. The second 4.1 was causing issues with deltas not loading...even after injecting. In fact, the first time I attempted to load V4.2 I got a V4.1 instead.
All fixed and running so far, but a character saved with morphs seems to take up to twice as long as a similar V 4.1 character to load. Most of that time is taken up by reading the .daz file as opposed to the actual loading. In fact, characters take forever to load, I'm still waiting.....

I have to agree that anyone who uses or plans on using Daz on a regular basis should know that most items will require some tweaking because of the differences in surface settings. I'm specifically referring to textures here, map settings will need to be adjusted lights will differ, or not work if they are poser specific volumetric or ibl/ao..etc. I've posted a number of material settings for various products on various forums here and at Daz. For instance, skin tectures; I almost always add ah-skin shaders to the vendors supplied base, adjust bump settings and whatnot. Same for hair and a lot of cloth items...I rarely leave them as is. But it has been my experience that most basic textures will load ok. If I understand correctly, Ghostofmacbeth has a few textures floating around that work fine in Daz with a minimum of fuss (adjusting bump map values). I've bought stuff from Aery-Soul, Billy-T, Orion1167, and Dm-Marforno among others and they all work fine. Like I've said, bump maps need adjusting, plus displacement (if any), but the products load with no issues.
Real compatibility issues arise when the product uses specific Poser only features, 'optimised for Poser 6/7' is a good warning. The Evolution Eve texture is a good example...all the supplied Texture poses are for Poser6+ but they still load ok in Daz as they make use of texture maps in the material. As I really don't use Poser, I'm not familiar with any poser specific shader node bits I might be missing out on. I still make use of it and it works fine.
I have noticed products though that do seem to have issues. Specifically downloads with wonky directory structures that don't match any specified file paths, or sets that take absolutely forever to render. There is a Tek by Design freebie i deleted because of a wonky directory structure (although I have 2 others from him that load just fine) and the Sparkyworld sets take absolutely forever to render...to the point where I won't use them. I've loaded the same fully geared V4 into scenes with a Sparkyworld set, and with 10 blocks of Dystopia...the Dystopia renders fine, Sparkyworld bogs my system...and i run a better system than most. His meshes aren't poly heavy for the most part, but on close inspection, it looks like he ran a smoothing function on his pipework to eliminate any flat surfaces. The result is some 20 odd objects with a ton of polygons. His textures are small yet decent looking, and the scene itself loads fast...but a few objects in the mesh make render times atrocious. Not to knock Ol' sparky, but the point is any issues that arise may be surprising. (out of curiosity I'm doing a render now I'll post the results if anyone is curious....4% at 11 minutes so far)
I think a lot of vendor headache regarding Daz support might be solved with a FAQ...as well as some clear links to the Daz manual and tutorials. Most new users I run across have no idea where to look for these things and they tend to be somewhat scattered.
As to what I think about V4.2....umm...well...I'm kind of underwhelmed. They did fix a few issues, one with the poser morph brush, one with the floating unibrow, made ALL morphs injectable (you need to inject to use em), and added a male morph with 3 different heads. There are install issues of various types, all depending on how you're setup. I have problems because of two V4.1's in two separate runtimes on the same drive. this seems to have been fixed by taking the second runtime out of Daz completely and deleting the saved character I had made before doing this. After some test runs, I think I like the old one better. the base V4.2 loads fast, because she has no morph data attached, but any characters saved with injected morphs take a long time to load in my experience...longer than a similar character made with V 4.1. I also think the old version had a better joint system, this one seems to mangle really badly, very quickly, about the hips. I may have more to say as I work with it more. One thing of note...any male character you make, while looking decent...will have no pants! ( and no nads either...Victor's been fixed).

I finally got V4.2 working...so far at least. One thing I noticed in Daz anyway is that characters made with morph data take a long time to load. Make sure you follow the instructions very carefully or you'll be sorry.
I'd list mine too, I've had decent luck so far with most purchases and downloads being compatable, except this new release of V4.2. Quality however is another matter entirely...but that's a different topic.

Good point. I already have Apollo, David, M3, M2, and M sitting in my runtime, I don't care about yet another one. V 4.2 is really nothing special. I found V 4.1 worked just fine.
