@ bagginsbill - This new Library interface is coming for Poser Pro 2010, but not for Poser 8, correct?
THIS library looks totally usable. If this had been in Poser 8, I wouldn't have got a refund and I'd still be using it.
While the old Library Palette in Poser Pro may be flawed, and the Tree View in it gets flakey with a few hundred gigs worth of Runtime, it is USABLE with my workflow. And my runtime. These shots of your new Library are looking great, and both rows and columns of multiple items, very usable. The Tree View is great for speedy navigation.
I'm looking forward to seeing PP2010, thanks to all of YOUR info here!

Thread: If Poser was true 64 bit... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I doubt many of you here know me. Though I have been around a while, doing the usual hobbyist consumer thing here at Renderosity, DAZ3D and RDNA primarily. I've been active in the DAZ Forums for a while now. And in alt.binaries.3d.poser longer.
@ bagginsbill - I want to first say Thank you! very much for the huge contributions you've made to the entire Poserdom community. Your name and scripts come up a lot in many discussions at several places I frequent. I see a lot of useful knowledge shared freely, and I do appreciate all of it.
Poser 8. I DID buy it as an upgrade to Poser Pro. I did use it for two weeks. I used it without any 3rd party Library plugins or utilities. I used it stock. And I found it unusable as sold. I asked for and recieved a refund for Poser 8. I don't regret trying it, nor regret asking for a refund. For me, its content manager was completely unusable.
I do use Poser Pro, and I like its interface, but especially the Library Palette. My main runtime I use is about 300 gigs now. The way I have organized it is simple and easy for me to use. Expanding it is, unfortunately, too easy as well. I won't be able to simply break it up. I'll have to create a number of new runtimes in order to do that. Huge undertaking, reinstalling all that content.
I use a 24" widescreen LCD monitor (Samsung 245T) for my main work, and a 19" LCD monitor (Samsung 930B) for my "catchall". All my main "color work" is done on the 24". Poser Pros Library Palette is doing just fine using the 19".
The main difference between the new content manager and Library Palette was that the content manager showed only one item per line. Well, that one thing is what slowed me down, made life with Poser far more difficult, and ultimately unacceptable. See attached image of my Poser Pro desktop as it is running right now. One UI Dot click changes the interface to any of my choices. I like that the Dots have NOT disappeared from the UI!
I also don't like that Poser 8 required full installation and enabling of Flash, nor that it required Internet Explorer 8. I believe that is a bad choice, and proven by a number of difficulties experienced by P8 users and some of the issues touched on in this thread even. I realize this isn't going to go away, I just hope you've worked the snags out of it by release time.
Poser 8 GUI. I didn't like that either, with all the framed windows. Unweildy at the very best.
With all this still in my mind, an a.b.3d.p regular give us a heads up on this thread. I've read the thread, and I'm now convinced that Poser Pro 2010 may well prove to be a worthy successor to Poser Pro. Poser 8 still has no place on my system. But PP2010 could.
I like what you showed in this thread of the new content manager you're working on. Note that I still despise Flash because of its abuse in web pages and web browsers. I understand it is a tool to be used, and hope you do not enable any web access 'back doors' through it. One thing I will require is the ability to seal it off from any access to the internet. I won't even need for it to access my LAN. I pray you will make this an option in preferences. Having multiple items in rank and file is a hugely major improvement. The one item per line ruined it for me.
One other little thing I want to ask about. Poser in creating its thumbnails simply does a quickie render. And use of transmaps makes things like clothing, hair, horse bodies, etc. disappear. Not so good when others are around. They think the items are just nudes. Can this be fixed, or is it already fixed?
I also like what you've said about being able to make the interface resemble that of Poser Pros. So we can lose the window frames then?
One further new item you discuss that fairly clinches my trying Poser Pro 2010 is full native 64 bit executable. Not just the FireFly renderer. The main program. That has been a long time coming, and it is much needed.
Thanks for all the information bagginsbill, and for all you do for the community!

Thread: O.T. James Cameron's "Avatar" | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I got me up way too early the day after Christmas, all worked up about going to see Avatar. My son has been harping at me for a couple months saying this is THE movie to go see at the cinema for the decade. So I finally watched some trailers. Wow, this IS gonna be good! I knew it would be immersive beyond anything CG before it. Why? Cause in the trailers, you just can't separate the actor from the avatar. THAT kind of "motion tracking" and interpretation is new. Meaning the kind that works! NO film I've ever seen has done such a perfect job of this as I saw in the slew of trailers. OK, so I was up too early, took a nap. Got up just in time to catch the first matinee. Got ready, ran out the door, buzzed over to the cinema, got me ticket, bag of popcorn, box of raisinettes and a Coca Cola and sat exactly in the theater where I wanted (2D screening for me). Watched the last 2 minutes of the previews and then started AVATAR. From beginning to end credits, I LOVED IT! While the story was predictable, it is quite workable with great individualization the characters give it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, WILL go see it again, and WILL buy the DVD. THIS may well be the film that has me buy into BluRay. I'll get a decent BluRay drive for the PC first though. :)
The flying machinery Jim Cameron created was cool. But the articulated contained twin rototors are impossible. No visible means of power transmission TO the rotor heads. Given, they looked really good, there just isn't any way of getting the power from the twin turboshafts to those heads. That IS fixable, they just didn't do it.
The world of Pandora is absolutely believable, and totally wonderful! I installed the game demo just to enjoy a bit of that.
Say whatever you want about fanbois, simple classic predictable story lines, financial matters of the film, Cameron himself or any other trite elements surrounding this film. One thing you ain't getting is just how good the film IS, if you don't see it in some form at a cinema. It was definitely worth far more than the paltry $4.00 I paid to see it!

Thread: Poser Pro 2010 beta and Poser 8 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser Pro(7) will pop error dialogs and drop textures in a hurry with some really busy scenes. I have 8 gigs of system ram, a quadcore cpu and 64 bit OS. It really is frustrating to hit the memory limit with a 32 bit application of this type. I had hoped to see Poser development take the 64 bit codepath. The silence from the dev types on this issue is deafening. So be it.

I believe poser 8 is a 32 bit core program so I gather Poser Pro 2010 will be too if it is based on Poser 8. The only difference in Poser Pro 2010 is the 64-bit render engine which is the same in Poser pro present. However, with the advance in the way Poser 8 uses all the cores on a multi core machine rendering should be a whole lot better, faster and more efficient.
I am sure if I am incorrect someone will make sure it's corrected.
Poser 8 core executable IS 32 bit only. No Firefly64 either as there is with Poser Pro(7).
I was asking for specific acknowledgment of whether Poser Pro 2010 will have a native 64 bit CORE executable. i.e.- Poser Pro.exe in both 32 and 64 bit flavors. This is drastically important to me for the program to use the full amount of system RAM as well as more robust memory management under 64 bit OS's.
Quite frankly, the answer to this determines whether I will even use Poser Pro 2010. If not, I find no reason to keep Poser 8 over Poser Pro(7) either.

That's very informative and good to know. I wouldn't have learned about this at all, but another regular posted about it in alt.binaries.3d.poser. Wonder why I didn't get the same email as other Poser Pro owners did.
One major issue: Will Poser Pro 2010 core program be native 64 bit?
Thanks.

Oh I think they all say that. My last boss said that for 23 years. Then, out the door for disability, in a month he was saying all kinds of nice things and how he wished he had me back. :D Managers are taught to be that way, didn't you know?

My Lord. You're a one-man stimulus package...
Nah, just doing what all good li'l content junkies do! :-D
That's just a drop in the bucket compared to what studios spend on content.
Say now, isn't that what the Studios want YOU for? :)

About the Renderosity Marketplace store and all the hooplah about product rejection.
Item type redundancy.
oh, yeah, the whole arena is flooded with Victoria 4 character sets. I've bought over 150 V4 character sets. Primarily to get good skin mats. TEXTURES. I can dial great character morphs, those aren't needed. It's a lot more difficult to create great texture sets. And out of all of those I bought, there are very few that I actually use. Ya live and learn. I've learned who a few of the artists are who create excellent textures for skin mats. And some who don't. Yet. There IS a kind of sameness going around with the character sets for V4. How could there not be? It is a human figure, so what kinds of variations will be workable and wanted? Same for the clothes. How many different bikinis, mini skirts, nighties and such do we have available? TONS. Are they different enough, fittable enough, and attractive enough to be salable? I'll quote JenX here.
"Welcome to the real world, where in order for a store to take your stuff, they have to want it."
And the stores are gonna want stuff that stands a chance of SELLING. No matter how excellent your character set or item is, if it can't get by that line you may need to regroup and work something else up on the drawing board.
Last point: "I spent a LOT of money here...."
ROFL!!! That one just cracks me UP! Hey, how much is a LOT of money? $10,000.00 USD??
I betcha fully half of the regular customers have LONG since passed the $1,000.00 line. Thing is, yep you spent the money. AND you got the content or software from that purchase. So you spent a lot of money and got a lot of stuff. So? What else can the Store OWE you? Civility, respect, politeness? I get that from them and I think we all do. Consideration as a vendor/artist? Go back to that "Welcome to the real world" line. Cause you just crossed into an entirely different realm.
One caveat to being a KNOWN GOOD artist whose works do sell well is that the venue you are operating from will indeed favor your submissions. And why NOT?!?! Gee whiz, if I was the store THAT would be very near the top of my acceptability criteria!!!!! You betcha New Artists have a right tough time of getting something accepted or even just looked at seriously!
These stores are a tough sell and rightly so. Look at how many new submissions for V4 character sets come in every week. OR new lingerie, bikinis, shorts, HAIR. It's a tough field. It won't be easy. Did someone tell you it would be?
Renderosity ain't perfect. But they're pretty darn good, IMO.

Thread: M4 Eye Lash placement | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've taken a close look at both M4 and V4 eyelashes. A 10 megapixel render of a mid face closeup shows an awful lot. Including stuff you don't want to see, like displacement.
What I get is that the lashes do not deform when the eyelids are deformed. So even with stock undialed unmorphed eyelids the lashes still won't fit right in all open/closed positions. Wonder why they didn't provide deformations for the eyelash baseline?

Quote - The problem was the email that you used on Content Paradise is different from the one used on Renderosity which caused the issue of not being able to match up and know what account your CP purchases needed to be transferred to.
We had asked in the Front Page article about this to make sure your Renderosity account profile email address matched the one used at CP, and for your account this was not the case.
Please understand that we made this service available as a courtesy to our Renderosity members that purchased items from Content Paradise. From the terms of your Content Paradise purchases, you had only 30 days to redownload any of your purchases from the date of the CP and Renderosity split. We wanted to help all Content Paradise buyers out if possible by doing some special programming to allow us to transfer purchases but the emails needed to line up for security reasons and for the ability to transfer the purchases.
If you can please email me from the Renderosity email address you have registered with our site giving me the Content Paradise information and your Renderosity Username, then I'll be happy to try and get this worked out for you. (stacey@bondware.com )
