Thread: Created a Mechanical Pencil out of Bryce let me know what you think | Forum: Bryce
Yes, but I suspect it would be far too cumbersome. It's like trying to put a spreadsheet program into a word processor. Better to have two good programs and transfer data between them than to have one monstrosity.

Thread: Selecting multiple mesh objects??? Help!! | Forum: Bryce
Eric, it all depends on whether the meshes have texture names or not. If you have meshes wall1, wall2 ... wall356 in name, but they all have the texture name "wall", then you can run the obj file through the program Grouper (you have got that, right?). Grouper will create another obj file in which all meshes that have the same texture name are combined. It saves SO much time with exactly this problem. Then import into Bryce, and lo and behold, you have exactly the right number of meshes.

Too right. Bryce is a remarkable example of a carefully-thought out interface, compared to, say, Poser, which apes the Bryce style but with no understanding.
Thread: Thumbnail Philosophy? | Forum: Bryce
My experience is that full-picture thumbnails usually get less hits than ones showing tantalising detail.

I quite agree. However, there is another way round this, which is to merge all the walls into a single mesh (outside of Bryce), and then you can select them all in one go, assuming you are happy to have them all the same material and don't want to move them in relation to one another within Bryce. This is what I do. Usually a complex object boils down to about ten different materials, so 100 meshes can be reduced to ten, and everything becomes far more managable.

There are sad people who take a perverse delete in giving pictures very low ratings, and the better the picture, the more likely they are to rate it 1 or 2. They are usually referred to as trolls. It's like vandalism, really. On another site it is known for fact that some of these trolls sign up for multiple user IDs so that they can leave multiple low ratings on good pictures.

OK, now export it as an obj file ... Modelling in Bryce is a bit like making fake B&W photos with a typewriter. If you're skilled enough, you can do an amazing job (which this pencil is), but why make things hard for yourself? Why not use a real modeller?
Thread: Volumetric Lights | Forum: Bryce
Another possibility is to create a spotlight, set it to volumetric light, and then stretch the spotlight object itself so that it covers the whole of the volume you want the beam to occupy. This is less render-intensive than using volumetric world.
Thread: Chrome in Bryce? Is this even possible? | Forum: Bryce
Fast Trax has a chrome material for doing faux-Sorayama robots, but it uses a fake reflection, and only works in the right sort of scene. I would have thought you could get the effect you want by judicious tweaking of high reflectivity, high specularity, low diffusion and low ambience.
