Well, from what I have seen in a "Making of Final Fantasy", the models resolution isn't very much higher than the DAZ-Models. There are a few more polys around the eyes, mouth and ear areas but thats all. Most of the difference is an extremely high-resolution texture and most of all bump-mapping, a map for skin-shinyness and of course: A very expensive radiosity-rendersystem with a render-plant the size of a small appartment building. Of course, if the pricetag on Poser 5 would go a bit up - let's say, around 20.000 Dollars, you could actually expect to see such models - of course you would have to pay for the render-plant too, which would be another 5.000.000,- Dollars. Poser is a very powerful application the way it is at the moment. PPP is a very good way of breaking into the "Professional Market" if you consider, that a big advantage of Poser is it's enormous database of characters and it's community that no other character-programm will be able to offer. But you can't expect Poser to do things, that an application of this pricerange could not possibly do (Like Radiosity-Rendering). Joerg

I am still hoping, that MacOS X will give some healthy competition to all that Microsoft-Junk on the market. Don't get me wrong: I hate Mac's with a passion - I have to work with Macs almost every day. Two years ago, my boss decided to buy IBM-PCs with Windows 98-Operating system for my 3D-Max - and I began to hate Microsoft about as much as I hate Apple. Well, that was until I got my hands on Windows 2000. My 3D-Max runs smooth and ALMOST without crashes by now. Most of the "great problems" my old Mac-Dealer promised me with my new IBM-PC never appeared and everything was fine. (I still hate Bill Gates and I still hate that so called Dr. Watson, who gives me regular sessions every time my 3D-Max crashes...) Maybe E-On will consider converting Vue d'Esprit to Mac OS X when it is finally working... Joerg

Well, this isn't a bias problem. With ever smaller numbers of Macs getting sold and the technical differences getting larger, a Software-company like E-On could not really think about converting to a Mac-base with Bryce still dominating the market. I don't know the American computer market, but over here in Germany, Mac-sales are dwindling since Windows 2000 came out. Only a few I-Macs were ever sold in Europe (Who would buy an I-Mac for 3.500,- Marks when a comparable IBM-PC costs only 1.500,- Marks.) and even Advertising-companies are slowly changing to IBM-PC-base. With the market changing against the Mac, any software-company investing in a market already blocked by another, comparable product, is doomed to fail. Joerg

Hi, Judging from the screenshots and the product description, Vue 4 seems to be a lot more than we Vue-ers had hoped for. Not only does it import Poser-Files, it also offers volumetric atmospheric lightning (the clouds cast real shadows), volumetric lightning (glow) and a lot of other stuff noone had hoped for... If you ask me, that sounds a lot to good to be true. Being a pessimist to the core, I guess that most of the features won't work until Version 4.03 and my good old P-333 probably won't even start rendering at all... Joerg
Thread: Warning: Predator in freestuff is a virus infected file | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hm... OK, we had this warning some time ago. There really seems to be no virus in the file. It would just be very interesting to know, what causes this warning. My sysadmin got mad and went into a murderous rampage when I tried to install this file. Joerg
Thread: PPP price differences | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I too made the major mistake of buying a localized version of a programm - Poser. It is one of the worst mistakes I ever made. If it was only the patches and updates that were late, it would be not that much of a problem, but the fact that only americans and canadians are offered a "special introduction price" is really annoying me. Considering the high Dollar rate at the moment, 200$ for the package equal about 440,- german Marks. At that pricetag, PPP doesn't really become a desireable update. Next I konw better than to buy a localized version of any programm... Lanover

Hi, I will give the fishingrod a try. The only problem is, that my 3D-Max knowledge is still a bit lacking in a few areas. (I'll have to get my boss to pay me some training...) What do you think would be best: A 3D-Max version or a Poser-Version of the rod? Is it possible to bend an object the way a fishing rod would? My last object wasn't very succesfull - I tried morphtargets to achieve the bending. OK... let's see: The Object would need several parts for the rod and several parts for the line. Since the reel doesn't need to be posable (I wouldn't know how to do it anyway) it should be pretty easy to create. - Maybe I'll have some time to do it next week. Joerg

Hi, Sure, feel free to do anything you like with the bait. It's freestuff and you asked for it. I hope the texture-map is acceptable. I am somewhat unused tu UV-Mapper but the programm is interesting... I'll have to do more stuff with this programm. Hm... considering the fishing reel and rod: I would like to try it, but my skills with posable items are not really good. My last try with a dagger that was able to open up to catch a blade wasn't exactly successfull... But I can give it a try. Could you post some reference pictures please? Have fun, Joerg

Hi, OK, I saw the new stuff... It's not like I would not appreciate it, but it seems like the Brycies post every bit of stuff they create, while we Vuers keep almost everything for ourselves. (OK, compared to the Vue-Stuff, there is some pretty low quality-stuff in the Bryce-Freestuff.) I would just like to ask everyone to think a minute about their textures and their objects and then pick out a few of the best, zip them and post them here. Just to keep the community alive and acitve. I built some "crystall-flowers" (lumps of crystals) lately, for a project that didn't quite work out. I am going to post them on Monday. (Don't blame me for the text in the object-files - they were originally ment for a sci-fi-story.) As for you, Tesign: Only the hook or do you also need a bait? The Hook is easy - I am going to build it right now - but I have no idea, how a bait looks like (And I haven't even got a book about fishing...). The Hook should be in Vue Freestuff in a few hours... Have fun, Joerg

Yup, that's it... I 've had it. I am gone to Bosnia for 3 months and the first thing I notice after getting back to Germany ist: No new freestuff for Vue... Simply disgusting. :) OK, I am going to post some new objects and shaders soon. Can't allow those Brycies to get that far ahead of us Vuers. Hm... on the other hand... Are there any special objects anyone is desperately looking for? Lanover (aka Joerg Weber)

Try not uploading the picture in CMYK-format (Colordepth 32bit). Netscape doesn't support CMYK. Every picture used on the Internet should be RGB-Format (Colordepth 24bit)
Thread: volumetric lighting.. how the hell does one do it in vue??? | Forum: Vue
Attached Link: http://www.dreamlands.de
Basically, you can't do it at all. There is a workaround however: Layer several objects with fuzzy, additive transparency and give them an extremely high reaction to ambient and difuse lightning. You could try some of my Pseudovolumetric Objects from freestuff. But beware: These things multiply your rendertime by at least 10 to 50 times. I was going to make photos of my chainmail anyway, but there is already a pretty detailed photo of a person wearing a chain-coif on my homepage in the LARP-Picture Archives. Have Fun, JoergThread: Agent Scully - another attempt | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
She looks great. Just the lower jaw area is a little more streched foreward in the Scully picture compared to the Poser-Model. Everything else is just perfect. Joerg
Thread: Conforming garment trouble; a spaceman with a broken back | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi, if you would like to, I could send you only the helmet as a object or 3D-Max-File. I don't know exactly how cr2 really works, but the spacesuit that I built, has a totally different joint parameters than the normal human body use with Poser. Maybe this leads to some problems... Joerg
