I hear about all these people killing their computers! What gives? I have never had a problem. I did a volumetric world render of one of my posts and that thing ran for a week solid and then I got tired of waiting. I didn't know you could run multiple instances. I just modelled some things in wings to pass the time. I hardly ever hear my fan kick into the highest speed. Most of the time in a long render the air coming out is just a little warm. Maybe it's the cooling system. If you look into the back of mine you can see a half-inch tall 3-inch wide copper wire network. I'm not sure if the air gets sucked in there but it can get a tad warm.

Thread: Big Bird (Front Line Support Plane) 02 | Forum: Bryce
I know its your plane, but the inlets should be a lot smaller. If you look at the size of intakes on fighter jets compared to the size of the exhaust you will find the area of the inlet seems to be just a little bit larger than the area of the exhaust. The side laser pods should blend into the body as well. I like how you got away with not modelling the body of the walker and replacing it with an explosion.

No wonder it only took 38 minutes, I forgot to check the resolution. It was set at 3200x2400, not 5600x4200. That's 28"x21" at 200 dpi, enough room for a title at the bottom of a 32x24 poster. Uhm...Houston, we have a problem. Screen renders don't go up that high. What do I do? Try to find someone with a computer they aren't using and run Lightning?

That's incredible! I figured out I could pause, close, and restart renders on my own. Forget render to disk, I have to restart my computer. Oh well, what is filling up the screen now that I restarted the render reminds me of the mac background, all abstract-looking because it's only the top left corner of the whole image. The timer actually told me it would be through in less than two hours. Realistically, that is probably how long the second pass will take, then it has two more to go and the first pass only took 38 minutes.

I had it going for a solid week once and nothing happened. It's now one percent complete, middle of row 70. I took it a step further and rendered to disk. That way I can't pause it and work on something else in Bryce.

I don't consder myself a fast reader. Sure, I can read a 250 page book in a couple days but it has to be a really good one. Textbooks are more like 10-15 pages an hour. Now that I think about it more, my average is around 210-220 words a minute. I think average is around 180.

Thread: Dialup vs Broadband | Forum: Bryce
I did a couple images close to 500kb but remembered those poor dialup users(I was one of them before college) and adjusted accordingly. Dialup really sucks. I think Bryster called it DIE-l-up.

Ha Ha. It has to be at least 50 degrees outside my house. I saw a convertible with the top down yesterday. It was cool enough that a little of the 1.5 inches of snow a couple days before Christmas stuck around. I love Texas!

Thread: A few Night, digital photo's I took during 5 week leave. | Forum: Bryce
I found my new Canon T2 in a plastic bag in my parents' bedroom. they said it hadn't come in yet. I can't wait to start using it. I wish there was a good digital SLR that wasn't $1000. That's the reason I went film instead of digital. I just checked DealRam and Sony sells the most expensive memory. $89 for 512 MB vs. $41 for compactflash. You can even get a 1GB CF card for $71. Those are some great pictures. I like all of them, each has an amazing element that sets it apart. Excellent job!
