I would offer you some advice on this but I am afraid I would be leading you down the same road of confusion that I live on. I do know that the secret on getting layers lies in what options you choose in the options area. Aside from that I would just render a cube/ sphere - something simple and try playing around with options and see what works. Good luck.

Thread: Problem with procedual terrains | Forum: Vue
You might be right but I cant be certain of this since I don't usually work with procedural terrains. However, I would add this: make sure that the texture material you apply to the procedural isn't causing the terrain to change its shape. Sometimes I have experienced my terrains to really change their shape when I apply certain materials. Depending on the material, changing from object standard to object world and some others, can alter the topography of the terrain.
Hope this helps

Much of what has been said is absolutely true. But allow me to say, first decide what are the possibilities of both programs and measure them against what sort of art or style you are interested in. Then d/l both demos and find which best suites the way you work. Then lastly, look at lots of the images in the galleries to see what the possibilities of each program are and see, again, which best suites your abilities and tastes.

I think bobbystahr is right, check your settings and you will find that you can adjust the exposure of your background

I am such an idiot. Here is the link to the d/l. Sorry for the confusionThread: Vue5I EcoSystem Question | Forum: Vue
Quick answer: You can apply an ecosystem to ANY object in VUE. Whether it is a native VUE object, terrain or something you import, ecosystems are like textures: they can be applied to anything and everything. Essentially this means that you can grow grass, rocks or trees or anything from a hat, an automobile roof etc. You can even use the object itself that you imported as an ecosystem object (say for example a beach ball) and grow thousands of them on any object you desire. Welcome to the wonderful world of V5I.

Also, look at the highlight settings. Often they are extremely high and need to be toned down a bit.
Good Luck

Thread: Vue challenge - WE NEED YOUR VOTES :) | Forum: Vue
I realize that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I am totally confused by the contest page. I am able to view the images, but never able to find out how to vote for them. Where is a vote button, where is a link where I can submit my thoughts, opinions or vote? I know you provided a link above, but absent that, I would never know where to go. What happens next month? If you dont provide a link I will never be able to find it. I know this sounds like a real tyrade, and maybe so, but I am really lost with the current challenge voting process. It is neither easy nor intuitive for those who wish to cast a vote for a favorite image. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Well that blows some serious chunks.........;( I would check to ensure that the alpha map that goes with the leaves is being applied. The leaves/needles look like they dont have the alpha applied and therefore looks like large flat planes. Hope this helps you.

Please take all this advice to heart and consider making some minor tweaks to your system and following a few simple steps when using Poser figures. VUE is a superior product as it does what other affordable programs cannot. Don't give up, just work around the problem!

Judging from the image you submitted, you may want to increase the highlight value of the material but not make it shiny as then it would look like latex. Also be sure to give it a slight bump to diffuse the highlight effects you create.
