Bryce 4 reads .mtl files (but not very well). Bryce 3 ignores them, so should you. Here are the steps: 1) Go over the bits that aren't body (clothes, hair); set the textures to what you like, change them all to family 2. 2) Select everything; then delselect family 2. You now have the body selected. 3) Import the Poser skin texture as a .tif image texture. Apply it as parametric. Open the texture editor and ROTATE IT X 180 degrees. Now it will fit! 4) You're done. With Bryce 4 you don't have to rotate textures.
Thread: Don't like use restrictions? Start a movement! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
BlueRain - I think you are misunderstanding. The idea of the group is that people who join it simply put their free stuff in the public domain so that it is unrestrictedly free for anyone. In other words, they don't mind where it turns up. But re-reading the original post it looks like dogface doesn't actually support his own suggestion. Duh.

This is a very touchy issue, only to be entered on with trepidation. You can see that some people are getting upset already. Still, I'll jump in with both feet as usual. I have some passing sympathy with the original post, though I don't know why I should be the slightest bit concerned since I have no commercial interests, and so these restrictions don't affect me. I guess it's just that gifts with strings attached never look quite so nice as gifts without strings, grateful though one may be to have them. Equally I completely understand and empathise with Mason's point of view here. I sometimes wonder what would happen if someone started posting things with really silly or offensive conditions: "This item is free for use by anyone who sings the Chinese National Anthem in the local park at 7 a.m. every day for the next week;" or "This item is free for use except that Jews require written permission from the artist". Would people use them? What if they were very nice things, too? But any discussion of these things is seen as biting the hand that feeds one. Never forget that all the people who post their work in the Free Stuff pages are really really wonderful folk whom we should praise constantly, for if you offend them (and some people round here are easily offended) they will pack it in and take their toys with them :)

Somehow this all looks very familiar; I think we have been here before. Doesn't it just remind you of schooldays? "Since the child who did this bad thing has not owned up, the whole school will be punished!" Or in this case: "Since one person has offended me, I'll make sure everyone else regrets it!" I don't want to make light of Eric's complaint, which I'm sure is justified. I just want to point out the way this sort of reaction looks.

Thread: forgive me for asking an age worn question...regarding copyright | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's an interesting question. My understanding is that the artist's copyright of a model prevents anyone redistributing or copying the MODEL, but that the only copyright in an image is that of the creator of the image. Just as if I take a photo of your house, I don't infringe any copyright on your house. A model used in a render is analagous to paint used in a painting, and the paint manufacturer has no rights in the painting. Secondly, so far as I understand, downloading a model and using it does not constitute a contract with the maker of the model. The modeller may set out terms and conditions but do these have any legal force if there is no agreement with the user? I suspect not. Obviously it makes sense to respect the modeller's wishes, or one would be biting the hand that feeds one, but if one wishes to view it from a legal angle, the case is far from clear.

the3dwizard - are those the only items to be converted? It would be really useful to have the leotard, unitard and biker shorts to fit Vicky.

Rhino is expensive. Anim8or is one of the easiest to use. Milkshape is also usable; it is shareware for about $20. Very easy to get the hang of but chugs on poly-heavy models.

Actually I can see a very good reason to import from Povray to Poser - in order to get figures posing correctly in relation to a prop/bit of scenery before then moving the figures to Povray for the final render.
Thread: Faking the Hair in Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Personally, I prefer to accept the limitations of Poser hair even if the textures are not totally realistic. Introducing hair as a montage or postwork usually ends up with it not being lighted correctly compared to the rest of the image, which is a worse problem.
