I wasn't referring to your little dispute with alleycat over at PP at all. Don't refer to him as 'my guy' - he's his and nobody else's. That argument is separate, I didn't participate in it. I participated in one thread, but ended up primarily discussing a totally different aspect of religion with jchimim - which is ongoing. The only thing I contributed to any of your argument with alleycat was to tell him that while I agreed with some of his points, he needed to modify how he presented them and his arguments. I wasn't on the "losing end" of ANY discussion, though I read the other thread where that happened, and agree with most everybody that alleycat was way over the top and flat-out being rude. None of the recent threads I read earlier today had any attacks, certainly nothing worthy of shutting down the forum. In fact, the only things on that level happened several days ago, when a couple of threads were locked. Things had actually smoothed out since then. Seems pretty arbitrary to me. So now artists here are not allowed to have opinions on anything except art? The last time, when they shut down the old C&D forum, all the off-topic conversations, and arguments and even anger - just ended up free-floating in all the other forums. It will probably happen again.

Use OBJ files by all means. With obj files the textures can be 'mapped' to various parts of the object. 3ds files don't work the same way and can be a MAJOR bitch to apply textures to.

If it's a download, the problem could be individual subparts with names longer than 32 characters (dunno why, but some people do that). Bryce chokes on those every time and spits them out.

I've been using this technique as a target for eyes to point at for some time. I always make the ball invisible so it doesn't clutter up the scene. In fact, once I did the first one I saved it as a smart prop already parented to the head so all I have to do is call it out of the library and set the eyes to point at it, and it's time to rock & roll. It sure beats that blank 1000-yard stare that so many poser images posted have.

When you use it, be sure to go into the materials editor and turn OFF Cast shadow, receives shadow, and self-shadow. Fire is a light source and does not have shadow attributes, and it doesn't look quite right if those shadow settings are on. Also, with the shadow settings turned off, you can stick a light source right in the center of your flames to achieve proper 'illumination'.
