I agree VS... Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I don't expect anything to be easy - and I'm alright with that. I can't say this is my lifelong ambition... Because it isn't... But I think for me, and maybe people like me, finding a 'job' that just isn't something we hate and loathe is as good as it gets. :Grins: One can't make a living being a philospher and I don't have anything terribly interesting to say as a writer :Grins: so I just want a job that interests me, excites me and allows me to follow those things I do love. :grins: So it goes. Yeah :Grins: it helps the situation not being attached. If I had a wife and kids to support I'd have had to go to law school... the thought of which was more or less responsible for me planning to go, actually. Felt if I had a family I have a responsibility to make more.. but I think once I get in.. I can make more. And I can hold off for a bit :Grins: or longer. I'm in no hurry. Anz

It's a 2 year 3d animation associates. I'm taking longer because I've been an English Major for the last 3 years. I've just started this. From all these links and comments though I'm getting a stronger and stronger feeling this isn't going to leave me ready for professional work. It bears thinking out. :Grins: I don't mind starting that low... I've always been apt at moving up. And I'm a single guy living alone without any real costs :grins: I can live ona little pretty easily for now. Just depends on where I get work. But it's a few years away... it gives me time to figure out how to approach it and if I want to get any more education. ;grins: Gaming just seems it'd be more fun... and a place I can learn more, maybe doing things in Hollywood later on. 3d animation just kind of came out as a "well.. I don't hate it, i wouldn't mind that being my career." But I do enjoy it... so thats the best I can hope for. Beats going to law school which is what I WAS going to go do. :grins: Anz

Thanks for the info Virtual.. bad as it is :Grins: I guess what I'm asking is... what else should I learn? I'll have lightwave and photoshop down by the time I'm done and I'll probably reach myself some Maya and 3ds max. Contracting out sounds miserable though.... I was hoping to get on with a decent pc game company and just do it. The thing is.. it is a paycheck and I also enjoy it - more than anything else I can think of I'd be employable under, at least. I'd do #1... I know for a fact I never hardly ever mess with characters (besides odd morphs or what have you) When I buy a package like that I'm always just looking at the objects and maybe the textures, but never the characters. Anz

Well you may be the exception, and the particular doesn't become the general. But I think I've seen more than enough people irritated at waiting a day or two if for some reason something slowed them down (daz having tech difficulties or etc) to give the arguement a bit of weight. But Anton gave an excellent analysis of the economic situation, but implicating Daz or Renderosity isn't right either. Neither one of them are "corporate" really - I loathe dealing with corporations & the people at Daz are VERY nice people as are the people here - it's not like their profiteering whores trying to screw us all. I've worked for enough corporations to know the difference. When they stop caring about the consumer at all outside of our money they're "corporate" like that. I agree I'd love to see everything just flying all over the place, and it'd be nice to have access to single items or what have you - but the economic situations are as they are, all part of a free market - big gets bigger and crushes the little guy UNLESS he does something damn good. And I think with the overwelming quality we have been seeing lately in products both at Daz and here that it's working out in our, the consumers, best interest. Yes, occasionally it'll be a kick in the teeth but the value for the money is still phenomonal. If you don't believe go check out some prices for 3d models of the non poser variety at some other places. Considering the time and work going into the products we're getting them at a steal. But after dealing with some of the smaller sites (bbay recently that made me want to tear my hair out) I am thrilled every day that Renderosity and Daz are there with such nice products. I agree with Anton though, there is WAY to much crap floating around and it will effect the market. The thing is, and this is what it comes down to, its not going to be much different and it won't go in that direction. Ultimately it's like everyone here as said, ask the artist. Yeah, I wouldn't want to get nailed with special requests either but its up to the artist to decide if he'll deal with them or not - considering it's a buck versus not a buck its not too bad a deal and I think most will work with you if you can't convince yourself to spend that extra 10 bucks for some extra hair or whatever.

lol.. yeah. And the pictures for the second pack are a bit confusing. There wasn't much in the first I'd be interested in but the second one.. hmm.... Though it wouldn't look that great without some of the first stuff. Oh well :grins: I'm sure someone will show it off soon enough.. they better :shakes hand in the air impotently: Anz
Thread: Poserworld ??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have no idea what it is or could be.. but I do know Poserworld generally has VERY slow downloads for me, sometimes timing out. The site is that way, too. At least on my end. Everything else flies with my cable modem.. bless its blinking little heart. I'd emal Rena or Steve. Anz

Well there is still a "cost of doing business" sort of situation. Renderosity makes a profit but you also have to imagine its going through tremendous bandwidth - those costs have to be paid, as well as management and handling of the site. Also, when people are dealing in the digitial world waiting 24 hours is a damn long time. People have been trained to be able to get their products immeadiately, waiting would just frustrate them. I see your point but ultimately Renderosity and Daz are still going to be the big boys - it's instant advertising, they handling all the little things, they host the products, etc.... If I was producing products I'd give it to them before my web page any day of the week. I'm working on producing a digital product at the moment (not poser) and I fully intend to hand it over to someone else and take a cut in profits to let them handle it. Thats the way things work in most of our economy - wal-mart obviously doesn't make what it sells but its easier than starting it all up and managing it yourself and just take a profit cut and let "wal-mart" or whomever sale it. Thats just my opinion though :Grins: Anz

Well looking at Daz and having a pretty good idea what product you're talking about I know for a fact that the creator is a very nice guy and I'm sure he'd be willing to work with you as long as it was in the legal framework of what deal he has with daz. But, like everyone has says.. until you talk to the creator you don't have a lot of room to bitch. I understand your position but I think anger and resentment are improper responces. This community is VERY giving and VERY helpful for the most part, by far. The responce should have been "do you think I can get some of this seperate?" not "I shouldn't have to get it all if all I want is yadda yadda yadda" Anz
Thread: Merchants please read | Forum: MarketPlace Showcase
Well I don't think it's something to get "furious" and "resentful" for. Lot's of time the big packages are damn good deals, for parts and content. And sometimes there are parts you don't want... But I agree with Cleaver in that it's not "manipulating." I worked at a software store when the PS2 was released and we had to sell them in bundles with a crappy game and an accessory - THAT was manipulating and evil. I think you have to make your decisions about your purchases the same way we all do, look at it and see if what you want is worth the money. If you can't convince yourself that it is or you only, indeed, want one piece - talk to the artist. We have some really great people around here and I'm sure some would be willing to work with you.
