Will have to look at the Epson 1800, I remember comparing the Canon, Epson and HP and the Canon won hands down after looking at the sample prints. Well that was almost two years ago I think. If I replace it I will give mom the old one. May just hang on til one comes along that can do 16 x 20's though, whether it be Epson or Canon... I use nothing but Canon ink, have many of my images on the walls printed with it, so we shall see Mr. Canada! ;) Brenda :)

I like this! I like the lighting and the selective coloring. I also think it is cool that I can see the detail in your skin. Something different, nothing wrong with that! Brenda :)

I guess I am a minority here LOL! I just printed about 8-8 x 10's yesterday and about two weeks before that I ran off about 150-4" x 6"'s 12-5" x 7"'s and 6-8" x 10"'s. I give my printer a work out! Just bought a GPS for the "Keys trip" and printed off the 102 page manual last night! I print my images all the time with my Canon pixma 4000 printer! I love it! What I love about it is that when it is time to replace inks, I only replace what has run out. I don't find the ink usage to be excessive, quite the contrary, I was really surprised how many prints I could get out of it before replacing a color. I have noticed though, that when I replace one color, I better have back ups of the others because they usually aren't too far behind! (except for the blacks, they seem to last three times as long as anything else!) What I would improve if I could? Hmmm I want it to be able to print 11 x 14's and 16 x 20's. Was just looking at the larger format printers, but it looks as if Canon hasn't made one yet and I certainly don't want an HP! Canon just sent me a survey on my printer and I told them the same thing. Brenda :) P.S. Nice seeing ya Doug! waves

Thread: Few Things I Would Love Your Advice On | Forum: Photography
Hi Chris! Saw this thread and felt the need to throw in my two cents. I have two digital Nikon's and have shot in Raw format with both of them, it was a waste of my time and disk space to be honest. Like Richard said there was more noise in the RAW files then in the fine jpeg files, no more detail in them and honestly I shot the same scene in both and posted them side by side on UF and they preferred the JPEG image. I removed the RAW converted image after about a week. Like Richard said "You have personally proved that you do not need to shoot in RAW to win major competitions and receive recognition in well respected circles with your recent competition win." Yes there are those of us that believe they are getting something out of a RAW file that the rest of us that shoot in a fine jpeg mode are missing, but I am not convinced of that. I have printed my jpeg files as large as 16" x 20" with no distortion from both cameras, I haven't tried to print any larger yet. So I guess I am one of those people that just doesn't grasp the concept of RAW. Andreas that D200 is sweet, take the bus and get the cam! ;) LOL! Or finance the car and get the cam anyway! It's a win-win situation the way I see it! Brenda :)
Thread: Art Theft! | Forum: Photography
Hopefully you have registered copyright and can sick one of those blood thirsty lawyers on them. Deviant Art appears to be a site where you can sell your art? You would be entitled to any profits, court costs etc. etc. etc... Best of luck tracking them down. I get a lot of comments from people saying they want me to post bigger images... errrr I don't think so! Sad thing is this happens a lot and it always leaves me wondering how many more are out there for every one you catch? Brenda
Thread: What would you do? | Forum: Photography
Richard I am glad you took it and did your thing, because to be honest after you made that first post I wondered what you would do LOL! I think mine had a tad bit more blue to it and yours more grey maybe, but you made the bird stand out perfectly! I have about ten of these shots, will pick the best! Thanks for explaining why this happened! :) Doug, You don't see blown highlights in the white??? I was not happy when I got em uploaded, thought I had some brilliant shots but they were blown me thinks! :( Lew Thank you for taking the time to explain to me why this happened, when cruising in a boat you only have so long to get everything right so I went with the stupid auto setting when I saw this bird fast approaching on the shore, I even had em idle so I had more time to catch it. We were doing idle speed anyway as we were in a manatee zone. Yes Zacko those birds are huge, or at least the second one was and I am still not sure if it (second one) is a Great White Heron or a Great White Egret, guess I need to do a little research eh? Brenda :)
Thread: Totally OT | Forum: Photography
Niu, Even though this is totally OT, this rings a few bells with me, both of my parents have been diagnosed and have undergone treatment for the big "C". I also had my bout with the big "C". Kort is right, it is everywhere. I just found out that one of my co workers has stage 4 cancer in his esophagus and is in the hospital dying as I write this. Another one of my co workers did battle with breast cancer last year and another one of my co workers just lost her mother to stomach cancer recently. I am beginning to feel like I live in a cancer cluster here. Something that my mother's doctor told us, and maybe we need to take her advice? You decide. Never cook in plastic or cover food with plastic wrap and cook, I am surmising that heated plastic creates carcinogens. (you know like cooking in the microwave?) Teflon really isn't safe to use when cooking either, you should discard any teflon coated pans at the first sign of peeling. (Guess you wouldn't want to eat plastic either eh?) I now cook in cast iron btw! Margerine is the closest you will ever come to eating plastic, do yourself the favor splurge and buy the butter. Kind of makes ya wonder about that cooking spray too huh? There was a bunch of other stuff she discussed, including things like deodorant that should be replaced by using a body powder based with corn starch. Oh yeah and I think lipstick was in there too. I guess in today's world there are a lot of toxic things that we use everyday, things we take for granted. I know I took a look at my lifestyle and changed a few things. I also learned from my father's experience that should you ever suffer with acid reflux, you need to seek immediate help for it and go to a gastro doc and have yourself scoped. The acid eats away the protective lining in both your esophagus and stomach leaving it vulnerable to attack. Sorry for being kind of long winded there. Brenda
