Thread: Road material in Vue 8 help | Forum: Vue
First for clarification :: From your post am I correct in thinkning that your heightfield map is 10K in size? Are you using a color variation to 'paint' your road surface?"?
Second - in general :: try activating interpolation for your maps that have pixelizxation bilinear or bicubic (gausian qwill anihilate the details in this case so dont try that mode)
Third -- for a dif. approach :: Why not use function driven procedurals, or again a mapped procedural mixing in a tiling image - if you really want the image mapped version (edge repeat only for the map).
Keep us updated!
Regards,
AF

Thread: Making money off 3D design work... | Forum: Carrara
In my small studio, up until now I've created the majority of my content and done the 3D work in Lightwave. I added Carrara into my arsenal late last year and its flexibility and speed esp. with premade content mean that it is here to stay in my studio. Indeed, for the mainstay on my illustration work, Carrara has become my goto tool for 3D.
I still do all my modeling and high end special FX in Lightwave(though w/bullet & the expansions for C8 who klnows what the future will bring). I also use Vue 8 complete as my main natural environment package and Particle Illusion for some 'midrange; fx tweaks and touches. I edit in DFX+, After Effects and Adobe Premiere, sound in Cubase VST, Acid, and FruityLoops.
All that being said - in direct answer to your question. I have done a ton of illustration work (trade mags mostly), a few TV commercials (toys) - and all of them used my modeled 3d assets and/or my photography. My main income has been from web design and corporate flash animation. Its been a roller-coaster as far as money, but highly rewarding in a personal sense.
Whatever you decide, good luck out here!
Thread: Broken Foam? | Forum: Vue
Not sure about Pioneer, but if you can, check on the global water settings & ensure you didn't disable the foam or set it for an unrealistic depth as a trigger.
By default (if I remember) meta water foam is triggered when the underlying object is 1 m or less from the water surface. you can (in complete+ at least) adjust this to better suit your scene. So try 1m/3m/5m etc dropoffs/objects beneath the waves.
Also - w/pioneer if you cant access the settings directly you may want to try resetting your preferences to e-on Defaults (checkbox on prefs) just in case you worked w/content that might have altered things on you.
Good luck!
Thread: Vue 8.5 pricing structure?? | Forum: Vue
Good points all. IMO I really do believe that when you buy a piece of software that you should receive all updates from that version until the next full version is released. I've gotten so used to how E-on does things that I put that aside :( For me, I am completely stuck at this juncture since I have merely Vue 8 complete. 8.4 is the end for my side of things (up to my current beta which - crossing fingers - I hope they address at least some of the outstanding issues w/8.4).
I really want to be using infinite, but given the situation and available plans, will probably just wait until 9.0 is released to make that leap. Then I'll have to re-weigh the entire question of 'maintenance'.
Thread: Newbie to Vue..with a question or two :) | Forum: Vue
I came back to vue after a long hiatus(since V4) this January w/Esprit. I picked up the Ecosystem/Ecopainter module almost immediately. After that it took only a few weeks before I did the $199 upgrade from Esprit e/Ecosystem/Ecopainter to Vue complete, but doing it this way spread out the cost a bit. Now I am trying to get a few quick projects done so I can spend my $495 (the cost to jump from complete to infinite - well worth it just for the cornucopia content alone btw even w/o the extra functionality) - though I may suck it up for another 6 months and do the upgrade right as they announce pre-release deals on Vue 9 (that way my infinte u/g to 8.5 will net me an auto u/g to 9 & 9,5). Either way I can't wait - as was said earlier - Vue is worth every penny!
Thread: Vue 8.5 pricing structure?? | Forum: Vue
Okay -- here's the skinny about WHY someone w/Vue 7 gets a cheaper upgrade. if you are already on Vue 8 (whatever version) - they've gotten money from you and gotten you on board w/their latest releases fairly recently. If you're still clinging to Vue 6 or 7 its been a while since they have gotten either your cash or your buy in on their latest platform - if they dont get you on board you coupd go out and find some other solution for your scenery creation - hence the BIGGER enticement to upgrade. Its really that simple. And remember, for e-on, you only have an upgrade range of 2 versions before you are no longer eligible to upgrade at all.
I was out of the product cycle myself since Vue 4! up until this year. E-on did a "hey you used to be one of our people" intro sales at the begining of the year that got me back on board w/some serious discounts. (to the tune of Vue 8 complete at this point).
From what I understand about the maintenance approach, they want a tight and guaranteed user base and a tight financial estimate to anchor the devlopment cycle of their product. That's why it exists to begin with.

Personally while I love the vouchers they are still a PAIN to use - most items are not voucher friendly -- here's a tip -->> click on the official content :) Usually a great matchup for vouchers !

Thread: Can't open Poser 7 - parse error! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You folks hit the nail on the head for resolving the parse error!!
The Faceroom file from Apollo fixed everything up in a heartbeat.
I'd originally attempted to kill the prefs (though I'd saved off mine Just in case)
and that was no good. OPened a ticket at e-f, then did some searching and
found nothing initially. Tried reinstalling SR2 to see if that helped - but no
joy there either, then this morning, found this thread, and Poof instant fix.
The Apollot faceroom file is now in my emergency backup archive of poser
prefs :)
Thanks again all!

Thread: A quick Newbie question | Forum: Carrara
I have no idea where you'd find it now a days, but give a try through www.google.com, their search engine had found some amazing things. You also might want to try eovia.com (the makers of Cararra). So strange to see a post in here since my post was a year ago ::. I work in Lightwave now, but Good Luck! on your search. Falcon
