Yep - I've been and gone and done it too. There are quite a few freebies available on the Cornucopia 3D site - including one or two tutorials - that are worth getting first. If nothing else, they're useful for working with the application as well as checking the quality of the material on offer. I've also been looking at the stuff on the 'geekatplay' web site. There are a couple of freebies there too. But, most importantly, this site has a host of flash based tutorials that gives a better idea of how to use Vue D'Esprit.
Thread: Getting into the Espirit of things | Forum: Vue
I bought Carrara assuming that it could cope with Poser 7 scenes - wrong! Since then I've been trying to use Daz Studio, Poser 6 and Carrara 6 all without much progress. Last Tuesday I took the plunge and bought Vue 6 Esprit as it is on special offer for Poser users ($99 until March 1) http://www.e-onsoftware.com/about/flashnews/021308/Poserflash.html When you register you also get $15 credited to spend at the Cornucopia3d store.

You could try here... DMI Car 3D Models http://dmi.chez-alice.fr/models1.html It has four main categories covering normal cars, military, emergency and commercial vehicles.
Thread: problem importing Poser7 scenes | Forum: Carrara
I had problems using Poser 7 content. In the end I stopped using Poser 7 completely and went back to using Poser 6.
PS - I think DAZ didn't get the Poser 7 SDK so Carrara could be viewed as 'Poser 6 compatible'. That could also explain any incompatibilities with P7 Content.
Thread: Free Carrara 5 Pro in 3D World! Question: | Forum: Carrara
Hiya People Hot foot from WH Smith over here in the UK and I've just loaded the DVD to see what's included. What you get is Carrara 5.0 Pro - it's the full release as originally packaged up by eovia despite it being provided under the Daz3D banner. A link is provided to register the product and obtain a serial number (you'll need a Daz3D account if you haven't already got one). When you do this, it would be the opportunity to get the latest patch up to version 5.1 http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/support/downloads/-/?product=car_down If you need it (should be included on the DVD) you can download Transposer too http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/support/downloads/-/?product=car_plug You also get the opportunity for a discount upgrade to C6Pro of 25% up until March 31, 2008 reducing the cost from $169.95 down to $127.47 (the Platinum Club Price is $118.97 but I don't know if the discount is applicable). The 3DWorld DVD also includes further Carrara/Poser content from Daz3D and Sixus in addition to other resources in max/3ds/obj format.

You should be able to use Carrara 5 Pro with Poser content via the Transposer utility that is bundled with the Pro version.
See the following link for information/confirmation

I'll be picking up my copy of 3D World over the weekend and I'll report back if there are any limitations or restrictions (but it's said to be the full version).
Thread: Another reason to own Carrara 6Pro... | Forum: Carrara
As Poser Users, changing to either Daz Studio or Carrara is going to involve a learning curve and, to all intents/purposes, both applications will be new (I think users who own both Poser and Carrara will be in a minority).
Over the last 2-3 years I've bought a lot of Poser content and it is this 'legacy' that I want to keep using. Many of the items are pre-DazStudio, both from Daz and Renderosity. I've tried using Synful Mynds poses in Daz Studio and they have done horrible damage to Vickie's feet! Daz materials are different from Posers, so the brilliant latex materials from Skyewolf aren't usable either (similarly in Carrara I would suspect).
A recent review in 3D World described Carrara 6 Pro as a 'Poser Killer'. IMHO, I think that Carrara Express amply does the job - at only $90 full price it's pretty economical, allows access to all Poser Content and has an upgrade path to the full products.
As I see the situation, there is a lot of uncertainty with the future of Poser but Carrara is poised ready to strike but there are one or two things missing to fill the void (again only an opinion from a Poser oriented person)...
I may be wrong with these assumptions but I'm really excited by the idea of exploring and using Carrara 6 Pro (and I might try and provide tutorials as part of the process).

A few words from a Poser/C6Pro convert...
The thing is that Poser and C6Pro content is seen as separate where Daz have actually done quite a good job of integrating 'Poser' content into Carrara (I'm just getting to grips with this as it was something that had passed me by and I'm just catching up!)
Daz will continue to supply 'Poser compatible' content to support the existing figures (V4, V3, A3, M3, etc) and merchants on Renderosity will continue to provide content (such as the brilliant stuff by LuLuLee).
It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Poser and their figures (Miki, Jessi, Gloria, etc). There could be a split into Vicky/Miki camps with Daz/RO supporting one set of figures and CP supporting the other.
Meanwhile, I'm going to continue to use Poser6 (I stopped using P7 some time ago) and learn/develop skills using C6Pro. And this means that I'll continue to support Daz and Renderosity for my content. Hopefully, using C6Pro will allow me to do superior renders, incorporate other content and do things that I wouldn't normally do with Poser).
Thread: Upgrading to C6 Pro...? | Forum: Carrara
Logged on to get my emails and got one from DAZ announcing that C6 Standard is available - and I've just checked for it in the store. Most of the issues that I have seen are regarding the interaction with Poser6/7. It seems that there my be quite a few issues using P7 files but P6 is better supported (Transposer also appears to be a separate product now rather than bundled as with C5Pro). At the moment I'm in the process of reinstalling Poser 6 and finding that I'm having to recreate scenes originated in Poser 7. Until that's done, I'm going to have to hold off playing with C6Pro.
Thread: carrara 6 ready for download!!!! | Forum: Carrara
Did you go for standard or pro? There's still no sign of C6 Standard on the Carrara page - so it's not likely that the links will be made available on your account. If you went for pro you could try refreshing your download links (I've done this in the past to download the latest edition of DAZ products - if the original links are still on your account you might have to wait for them to expire)

Just gone to the Daz web site to find a general announcement at the bottom of the page that C6Pro is now available. However, repsonse from the site (11am UK time Saturday) is pretty poor.

I'm not complaining, as such, just drawing peoples attention to the possible incompatibility of C6Pro with P7. However, it has to be said that I contacted Daz support on Aug 10th requesting confirmation of the price and release date of the upgrade to C6Pro. I've had numerous replies since then but none that either provide the upgrade price or the release plans. Let me ask - how would you feel if you'd asked somebody a direct question that they failed to answer and then learnt that they new the answer all along?

The real concern that I had was about how DAZ viewed Carrara Pro purchases from eovia and, having registered, what the upgrade path would be. I have yet to receive any contact from DAZ support that the upgrade is available (which we all now know is available but DAZ support haven't been told!) Also, I'd stopped using C5Pro as I'd upgraded to Poser7 and there were issues with newer Daz products such as Victoria 4. So I was looking forward to the new version of Carrara assuming that P7 would naturally be supported. At the moment the situation is unclear (and I've replied to Daz support requesting clarification). Meanwhile, I thought it would be useful to feedback to this forum the chaos that was being experienced in the Daz forum. It also provides feedback to Poser 7 users on the potential pitfall. If, like me, Poser users also have version 6 then there is a fallback position but there doesn't appear to be a long term future for users of both Poser and Carrara, especially for continued upgrades.

Quote - Correct me if I'm wrong, but since 3-frontier won't make the SDK avaialble to Daz there will never be a Poser/Carrara link up again. I think that all Poser figure exports will have to be done with Daz Studio in the future.
I'd be interested if that wasn't the case, but I understand that there is a new version of Studio that came out this week to accommodate Poser exports.
I was just to Daz and I don't see any options to buy Carrara 6 yet, just the Carrara 5-6 upgrade offer. Since I don't want to buy another version of 5 to get 6 I'll wait until the offer the upgrade from Carrara 5 to Carrara six for those of us who didn't buy Carrara from Daz.
When I first heard about the imminent release of C6 I went and looked at the Daz site for more information. There was concern that there wasn't going to be a C6standard. At the moment this seems to be the case as there are no options to buy the standard version (and the link to 'Transposer for Carrara 6' refers to Carrara 5!) Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for confirmation from DAZ support on the upgrade price! Ho, hum!
Thread: C6 Are we there yet? Are we there yet? | Forum: Carrara
I don't think DAZ3D even know if we're there yet!
When I first heard about the release of C6 I immediately registered my version of C5Pro that I'd bought from eovia. But the details didn't appear on my account so I got in touch. Last contact from support was yesterday without any mention of C6 being available.
Today I logged on to the Daz/Carrara forums to learn that C6 is actually available for purchase and people had already downloaded to start using it.
From my browsing of the forum there are a number of issues...
First up is that there are quite a few people reporting problems using P7 derived files to import into C6Pro. P6 and Daz Studio appear to be unaffected (in fact, there are murmurs that C6 may even be more integrated with Daz Studio.
Secondly, there was a suggestion that EF were not forthcoming with the SDK for integrating P7 files into C6Pro - this could explain the reason why there are problems.
If you use any of the new features of P7 then any import into C6Pro is doomed to failure.
There appears to be little coordination in the forum - so there are loads of problems and little feedback from Daz/developers on the likely causes. All the support is coming from those that have downloaded and installed C6. Meanwhile, there's been no announcement from DAZ on the release or, as the recent communication with support, internal knowledge within the company that it is actually available.
Hmmm! Methinks that I may have to revert to Poser 6.
