Thanks for responding. My meshes use quads, which firefly seems to hate. The Poser 4 render engine in Poser 6 had no issues with it, so is it just Firefly then?
It also seems to relate to scale as well. Like I posted, if I scale the whole scene down to 10% or 5% of normal figure size, it greatly minimizes this effect, and when dealing with large objects it is exaggerated. Is there a way of "tricking" Poser into thinking everything is at reduced scale. This and increasing the camera scale are the only ways I know to fight this.

Thank you. I think I will play around with VirtualDub to try to fix up some of these files. For some reason I never have heard of Avidemux before. There are so many "free" converters out there, but most of them are either viruses or trial versions that put watermarks on everything. Avidemux from what I have read seems pretty good. I will try that out as well.
The reason I don't just use Magix is because it doesn't take the video format I need it to read either. So I need to convert the file so Magix can read it, so I can convert it so Poser can read it. By the time it has been converted twice more the video quality really plummets and even then the avi output is kind of glitchy.

Thanks! I will try the uncompressed AVI. This is kind of a new area for me and I wanted to understand the workings of this feature a little better. Thank you for the help.

Quote - It isn't Poser; it is your computer's repertoire of codecs that limits what AVIs you can use.
I did not know that. I thought all this time it was Poser since I can play these videos on just about every player on my computer. I thought I already had these codecs. So do I need to download a codec for Poser itself, or is it just a general system thing? Once again I know very little about video formatting, or even how exactly codecs work. All I know is that they have to do with the way the video is compressed. So what would I need to download to - for example - load a DV-AVI file? Or am I getting this wrong? Pretend I don't know anything (which isn't far from the truth ;)

Quote - Is your computer 32bit or 64bit? A 64bit system will often be unable to read an AVI which was compressed with a 32bit codec.
Load the AVI into your video editor, then save a copy with a new name, using either another codec which works on your computer, or save an uncompressed version.
Thanks for the reply. I have a 64Bit computer now, but I had this same problem back with my 32Bit one as well. Even files I have converted to avi myself don't want to load in Poser. It seems to be very picky about the files it loads and I must just not be selecting the correct compatibility. I will try doing it uncompressed. Is there any conversion software you would recommend, and do you know what codecs will Poser accept?

I was running at SR1. I have downloaded the latest update and the problem appears to be resolved. I have done a few of the types of renders that seem to aggravate this problem and it was fine. Only time will tell for sure, but it looks good. Thank you very much good sir; you have no idea the headaches this problem has been causing me.

I am not using any point lights. The light set I used in this render is the HDRVFX Pond set that comes in Poser 8 if that helps. One is an infinite light and the other is a diffuse IBL.

Quote - In Wings, select an edge or an edge loop and right click. Choose "Hardness" and then choose "Hard" from the submenu. The edges will now turn bright yellow-orange.

I followed your instructions, but when I imported the object into Poser it still rendered the same as before. I think I did it correctly, but I could be wrong. Something else I have found though is that if I make a prop into a figure, it is less prone to distorting. Is there a reason for this?
I still can't believe how well the Poser 4 rendering engine handles polygon smoothing and how poorly the Poser 8 Firefly engine does.

Thank you everyone. I have tried both splitting and welding the vertices in the free UV Mapper. And it is an issue with my more cylindrical objects. If I render any cylindrical object it bulges in the middle, which is also splitting the vertices apart as well, and at the ends, the edges are smoothing, but the caps are not, which also causes it to look split apart. And this problem is not just limited to long objects as well. Adding more polygons to the ends has not helped me. It is mainly the splitting that bothers me so much; I could deal with a minor amount of bulging. Unfortunately I don't have access to my Poser computer at this time to show pictures.
The reason I can't turn off polygon smoothing is because the object has round parts that need to be smoothed. As I mentioned in my original post this was never a problem until I switched to Firefly.
I have seen a number of you mention assigning hard edges in Wings. I haven't really got into the more advanced functions in Wings and I am unsure how to do this. How do I assign hard edges?
Thanks

I just recently switched to Poser 8, and I am finding that alot of the props I have modelled in wings are seriously bloating with polygon smoothing turned on in Poser. The amount of warping is far worse than anything I have seen in this thread. Parts of the model will bloat out as far as the total width of the box. These same props looked fine in Poser 6, and because they are so low resolution turning off polygon smoothing is not really an option. These props will warp pretty badly even with the polygon smoothing as low as 10 degrees. In Poser 6 I would crank them up to 180 with acceptable results. Is there a work around or fix for this?

I am using Windows 7 64 bit. I have tried disabling UAC with limited success. It will actually display the files, but it is still a little buggy on loading them. Maybe I will try installing directly to C:.

Quote - You can move the Folders from Virtual Store back to where you want them in Program Files, but it will happen again. The best bet is to reinstall with the Content in a Shared Folder and only the Program in Program Files Folder.
That is the default option. The last option is for if you keep your Content on another location (I use that because I use Network Drives.)
Which area of the computer would be the best place to reinstall Poser? I wouldn't want to accidentally install it in a similar place and have to do this again. Is there anyway I can just make the Poser folder a shared folder, and if so would that eliminate this mess? I am not in a position where I need to worry about security because I am the only user and the computer is never connected to the internet.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. :glare: Is reinstalling it really the only way to fix this?

It's fine to complain (no insult intended by that word) that new versions don't interest you. But as an armchair quarterback marketing manager, you're making a grave mistake by projecting your own needs so far that you believe Poser has not fixed many of the issues that the market as a whole is interested in.
I didn't mean to offend. I meant it purely from my perspective as the casual hobbist that does not even begin to use half of Poser's features. Most of the new bells and whistles in Poser I would not even utilize. I know there are lots of people out there who like those things, who have begged for those things for years, and are glad to have them. I don't normally have a lot of time to render, so my main concern is speed. I don't consider myself an "artist" (hence the absence of a gallery) and I am fully aware that I am not the primary demographic for Poser's marketing. I am sorry to project my perspective on the community as a whole as I am sure that everyone else is absolutely satisfied.
As a side note I haven't really looked into Poser 2010 at all, so I really have no idea what it can do.
