As an unspoken rule, people are not allowed to say anything negative about an image. And in the rare instances that they do, they are quickly labeled "trolls" and the artist winds up crying that someone posted a negative comment on their image. "What do you mean the shadows aren't right? I can't stand this place any more. I quit!" As a result, many comments have been reduced to the generic "nice" or "how cute" or "that's adorable". Those may be good ways of saying you like the image, but it doesn't exactly help the artist to hone their skills.
Thread: The next version will surely fix it, right? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Here's a suggestion for P6 that no one has mentioned: When (accidentally) applying a pose to a conformed clothing object, pose the conformed-to figure, not the clothing. For example, you add a shirt to Mike, then conform it, then adjust it. You forgot to switch to Mike and apply a pose... only to have the shirt come off Mike and bunch up. Yes, you can re-conform it to Mike, but you've lost any changes (such as the 4 or 5 OpenShirt morphs you've adjusted). And you didn't want to pose the shirt in the first place, but you forgot which figure was selected.

I don't have thumbnails turned off on my profile, so this setting shouldn't be "carried over". Thumbs should show all the time, period... and in the case of nudity, the "adult content" eye should show. A site like this should NEVER, EVER show a link that says "Thumb Not Shown". This is an ART site: let's see what artists can do with their thumbnails. Text links are not artistic... nor do they sell a product. To be quite frank, "carrying over" settings from a previous login is a lazy solution. A visitor should NEVER inherit a cookie or settings from a previous member's login. What if I use a computer at the library, which has "carried over" the settings from a previous member? As a visitor, I don't see thumbnails because the previous member didn't?

Thread: Batch resizing utility for images? Does one exist? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
ThumbsPlus is another excellent program, much better than Windows' "thumb view". You can view the thumbnails in various sizes and color-code the display of folders ("has images", "has images in sub-folder", "has no images"), as well as customize which file types are displayed (images, text). You can do a many things that you can do in Photoshop: crop, red-eye removal, adjust contrast, and so on. You can create macros to resize images, either by percentage or by pixels. Then, it's simply a matter of selecting the images and running the macro.

There are a bunch of free Star Wars blasters and lightsabers at Vanishing Point. I think they are even the original ones made by Dodger. There's some cool Aliens rifles there as well.Thread: A REAL improvement for the Marketplace | Forum: Community Center
Maybe things are getting better. Searching for "motorcyle" returns 12 items: 11 vehicles and 1 gas station, which I can see as being appropriate. Searching for "car" returns a number of pages of items, and the first 2 pages are all cars (except one item, which I don't know what it is). No textures and no characters are returned. Here's an idea: figure out how to do to "smart" comparison: "Vicky3", "Vicky 3", "Vicki3" and "Vicki 3" all mean the same thing to users, but not to the search engine. A search on "Vicki" will give different results than a search on "Vicky" (but it should return the same items). Most savvy merchants will put both words in their product's keyword list, but some may not. And how about a "Did you mean..." suggestion, like Google. For example, if someone types in "Vikcy" (a typo), the search engine should say, "Did you mean to search for 'Vicky'?"

If removing IK is as simple as editting a few lines in a text editor, why is there a product in the Marketplace (for $15.00!) that does this?Thread: Different Poser versions -- what bitmap formats? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser 4, Pro Pack, and Poser 5 CAN use gif files. It's your operating system that can not. Running on Windows 98, ME, and XP allows Poser to use all file formats. Running on Windows 2000 will not allow Poser to use gifs. All versions of Poser can read jpg, tif, and Photoshop (though you don't want to distriubute your textures as psd files). Poser 4 can only use bum files for bump maps, Pro Pack and Poser 5 can use jpg files. Try installing the latest version of Quicktime and see if that solves your problem. It probably won't, but at least you'll be able to see the latest movie trailers at Apple's website.
Thread: For those who skip the Front Page and come straight to the forums... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
1) this isn't about Poser so it doesn't belong in the Poser forum. 2) This is about a commercial product so it belongs in the Prouct Showcase. 3) This was posted by an admin and/ or sponsor of the site and not a merchant. Therefore, this posting is exempted from the "no posting of commercials in the Poser Forum" rule.
Thread: Answer Questions, Win Prizes! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I like the grand prize and first prize, but the others are a little odd. Sure, the Matrix trilogy and Indiana Jones DVD's are great movies, but think about the audience who is filling out the questionnaire... wouldn't most of them already have all of the Matrix movies and Indiana Jones? Like the above poster said, this survey is even more controlled than the previous one. There are no comment fields and you can't say that your most sought-after feature is a bug free/ fully tested product. There is no option to select improvements such as "well-written manual" or "fix all existing Poser 4 bugs". At least this survey doesn't ask where I got my copy of Poser or if I use it for adult artwork.
Thread: How does one turn a jpeg into a bum file? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You don't even have to load a prop or model into Poser: just use the ground plane. Select the Ground object, click the Open button next to "Bump Map", find the jpg file, and Poser will convert it. Click the "Cancel" button so you don't apply the bump map to the ground.

Oh, come on. Who here doesn't like the "suggestions" the search results gives? Personally, I think it's fun to see all the models, textures, and characters that are returned when I search for "software". What does a "super sports car" or "seamless textures" or "hubless 3ds motorcycle" have to do with software? Well, nothing, but maybe someone will purchase those items. Out of the first 18 items, I see 5 items that are actually software packages. The other 13 are models or textures. And this goes on for the next 197 returned results.
Thread: "EXTREME" Marketplace- I don't like it. | Forum: Community Center
And I have now confirmed it. If a person is not logged in and they click any link to search the Marketplace, the pages come back with "Thumb not shown" in place of the images. This happens if you search by keyword, by best-selling artist, by any artist, or even by clicking a text link.
Thread: The Renderosity | Forum: Community Center
A few things to consider: Renderosity has been around for how many years and they have how many members? Why aren't they testing their code and colors BEFORE uploading it a live site? Or, do the PTB enjoy pissing off members? Just see the blow-up about the "mud" color scheme for the most recent issue. Somehow, someone thought that dark chocolate/ mud colors showcase artwork really well. And in this case, someone somehow thinks that a bunch of text links will show off graphical products really well. I want to click on a thumbnail of a character that looks cool and not have to click on Poser, then Vicky, then Characters, whoops, I meant to click on Vicky 3, no wait, I meant to click on Textures. "Also, it may be helpful to know that more than 94% of our active members use the default off-white background." This statistic was brought up back when the color scheme was changed. I don't know if the question was asked then, but: How many people know how to change the colors? And, out of the people who know how to change the colors, how many don't, because they have to complete the marketing information for their settings to save? "Additionally, I have not seen any another e-commerce site that allows people to customize the colors in it's Marketplace." Yeah, why be different and give the users a cool feature. No one else does, why should we? On the other hand, if users can customize their colors on the regular site, why can't they customize their colors on the marketplace site?
