Your words mean a lot; as for having overcome the struggle, I haven't done that yet - a point which has been made even more poignant tonight when I found out some news about someone I used to know which has knocked my spirits somewhat, even though it's good news for them and overall good for me that they are out of my life a little bit more. sigh There are many times I feel that keeping a happy 'mental balance' is too much like any other dependancy or addiction, and there are still too many times when I feel like "falling off the wagon", so I guess I fall into the category which you describe first! Mz, unfortunately feeling like doing this sort of thing doesn't give you any opportunity for such analysis. At the time it boils down to one thought; nothing matters, it just seems like the right (or only) thing to do.
Take it from someone who a few years back spent a whole day looking for something to hang himself with - at the time it seemed perfectly rational, now I look back and think "whaf*ck?" The only good thing is that there wasn't anything suitable and I couldn't bring myself to go out to the shops.

I'm not getting at you here, so PLEASE DON'T take it personally, coz it's the way society thinks in general, but 'mentally disturbed' can be classed as deeply offensive to people with depression. If you suffer from any illness that is caused by a chemical imbalance you get sympathy - unless it's a chemical imbalance in the brain, when you get avoidance, dismissed or even abuse. Power to the elbow of all charities and individuals who try their best to change this. I hope what Flopsy has shown and what I say here leads EVERYONE to be a bit more understanding towards sufferers and not to think it's "all in the head"

sigh LP, do we have to explain EVERYTHING to them?!? On November 5th of every year we Brits choose to freeze our asses off in the cold to go to the nearest bit of scrap land where local delinquents have made a big pile of wood usually consisting of old peoples' fences. We then get a bunch of rags, make them into a vaguely human shape and put it on top. We then set this pile on fire and wait for the fire brigade to put it out because it's unsafe, even though it's been ok for the last four hundred years. Up until about 7-8 years ago when SAFETY became paramount, we used to have a laugh by putting raw potatoes in foil into the fire, levaing them a little while and then attemting to eat them half raw and calling it fun. Now we mainly just have firework displays coz of the influence of your guys' 4th July / Thanksgiving celbrations. Cheers. We do this because in 1603 Guy Fawkes and some friends thought removal of the King, James I, would aid the Catholics, and decided to blow up parliament when he was opening it for the State Opening, an annual event. (Mistakenly, most people think it was to remove the govornment but that was only a secondary effect.) Unfortunately one of the gang got cold feet and warned a toff mate to keep away on that day. The King got the letter, the whole thing got unraveled and Guy Fawkes is the effigy that gets put on top of the bonfires. This isn't coz he got burned at the stake like some people think, but because the bonfires were originally lit to celebrate the safety of the king. Hope you enjoyed your brief history lesson. (",)
