If you could program a computer to simulate the action of one of those lottery machines that drops numbered ping-pong balls into a chute, wouldn't that be random?
Thread: parse error: junk after document element at line 2 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So that explains why it started happening to different people at the same time. I tried it and haven't seen the errors since.
Thanks for the tip, PaganArtist!

This is really weird. I started getting both these errors a few days ago in Poser 6. I wonder why this error should suddenly appear around the same time in different versions of the application. Something to do with dates?
I don't have a DAZ account, so could someone please post the solution here?
Thanks
Thread: Strange Hair Shadow | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I rendered the scene w/depth map shadows and, indeed, the "ghost hair" disappeared, but I wasn't real happy with the quality of the shadows. So I think at this point I'm going to go with ray tracing and paint over it in post work.
Thanks for the help.

Poser 6
Three infinite lights:
1 from upper right
Red = 1.1
Green = 1.1
Blue = 0.8
Intensity = 80%
Ray trace shadows
1 above and slightly forward
Red = 0.9
Green = 0.9
Blue = 1.1
Intensity = 30%
No shadows
1 from lower left
Red = 1.0
Green = 1.0
Blue = 1.0
Intensity = 70%
No shadows

Whatever it is, it's definitely caused by the hair group. I took nyguy's advice and rendered the scene w/o the figure. The "effect" disappeared. Likewise, when I rendered with the figure and set the hair group to invisible, the effect disappeared.
Even stranger, notice in the attached that the same effect seems to occur from the cigarette in the figures mouth.
I guess I could fix this up in post work, but would sure like to know what the ##@! is going on.
Thread: How old is he? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Acadia, you made my day. This character is supposed to be a sort of young haughty goofball who has a crush on his 34 year-old neighbor, but she regards him as an annoying punk.
Your reaction makes me think I hit the nail on the head! Thanks a million!
Thread: How old is he? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, thanks to everyone for the opinions. I was shooting for early twenties, and judging from most of the responses, looks like I hit the mark.
My main concern was that he looked too young (16-17), and the more I looked at him, the harder it was to tell. But nobody guessed under 19, so success!
As I get older, I find it harder and harder to tell how old people are (even when I look in the mirror).

Thanks. A lot of your renders have a "book illustration" quality that's very appealing. It's a look I've been trying to achieve using postwork, but would like more control in Poser. Thanks for the advice.

OT, but I was looking at your gallery and I have a question: How do you get that "painterly" quality in your renders? (FE: Tracy had a hard day...) Is that postwork?
Thanks
Thread: Conforming clothes->dynamic clothing = Extreme slowdown. =( | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Same would happen if there was a lot of irregularly sized and placed quads, but I'm yet to se a decimator that leaves you with quads.
I think this is likely the problem with converted dynamic clothes. It's resolved in simulation, but it takes a very long time.

I've read often about how Poser doesn't work well with triangles, but I have to say that in my experience it just isn't true. I've converted conforming clothes to .obj's and deliberately "split" the rectangles into triangles to get a smoother look. Also, there are dynamic clothes--made as dynamic clothes--consisting entirely of triangles that work like a charm and run very fast in simulation. So I would say to ignore the warnings and try it yourself.
Regarding the slowness of converted dynamic clothes in simulation, I have the same problem. I don't think there is much you can do about it. One thing you can try is to run the drapping simulation only, then export the drapped object, and try running the cloth simulation over that.

You might also look into constrained and choreographed groups. See attached tutorial.Thread: Strange Spikey Sheet | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Diolma:I only just started using choreographed groups myself. This link takes you to a tut that very straightforwardly describes how to use them.
Good Luck
Thread: Strange Spikey Sheet | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I still have work to do--mostly because the new sheet is so flexible, I have to play with the choreographed group to tone it down a bit. But at least it doesn't look like someone has a cactus under the sheets anymore!
High praise to ptrope. I can't thank you enough for your help.
And thanks to everyone!
