I did the exact thing I described to you for these images. I rendered the scene outside the window first because the DOF and ray trace through the window glass was crushing Carrara's render times. So, a quick 'background' render which was in focus (just a few minutes), then blur in photoshop, add back into the scene as a background image (turned off all the actually CG background stuff) and then could experiment with textures on the windows and bottles with render times that were waaaaaaaay less than what I was experiencing earlier.

All CG is trickery. If this is for a still, then a typical work-around I've used is to render the landscape view without the dragon in it. Then create a new scene with the same render dimensions and use the rendered landscape as a backdrop.

He, and you, are correct.

My biggest problem: too many hobbies. CG and illustration/animation, obviously, but genuine drawing and watercolor painting. Lounge-style piano playing. Teaching people to fly - upside down. Various sports things.

I'm sure there is a limit, but I haven't hit it – always trying to keep things as simple as possible to trouble shoot better. However, just keep in mind that if the same body part/geometry is keyframed in more than one NLA clip, that the clip on Top will override anything underneath.

Carrara and Unity/UnReal play nice together.
To be clear, UnReal and Unity are fantastic game authoring and compiling software. But, you can't create content in the programs themselves.
I've created assets for games, and even a few tutorials about integrating Carrara and Poser into Unity. Unity is also something we use extensively in my current engagement.
There is a lot of parity between Unity and UnReal, but most of my exposure is to Unity. It is a blast to create assets in Carrara (or any CG program) and bring them into an interactive environment to play. BTW, there is a HUGE market for content via the Unity store - if anybody is interested in having a hobby-job.
As an official art mercenary, I don't have a favorite software, but use whatever gets the job done, including Carrara. For all the neg-speak, even after all these years, Carrara is pretty solid. I use a bunch of 'current' software. The things Carrara doesn't have that newer software does, are the kind of things 99% of users wouldn't ever use anyway. Heck most Carrara users don't use 80% of Carrara's abilities, in my jaded opinion.
Just saying...
Oh, hi everybody.

@sfdex - totally with you on the intuitiveness of Carrara. Sounds like a cool project you are working on.
I migrated my pro work to C4D Studio several years ago because it's very similar to Carrara in intuitiveness, but much more powerful. Plus, there are render farms available which is a must for many of my projects because of short timelines.
You'll have to post some WIPs and some final shots when you get a chance! You've made Carrara sing in the past...
