Thread: Edit the texture for a char. in poser6, HOW?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, let's take this bit by bit.
The FaceRoom in Poser will let you make simple alterations to the textures for the P5/P6 figures. You can adjust for skin colour, beard growth, etc. That's about all you can do in Poser.
The way to modify textures is to take them into a paint program like Photoshop or PaintShopPro. If you can't afford these, there's a free paint program called Gimp which you can download. Also, there's an improved version called Gimpshop - Google them.
UVMapper won't let you paint anything. All it does is pull a 3d model to pieces and lay those pieces out flat, ready to be painted.
Magnets are a common way to make new morph targets, but they are tricky to use. You can export a body part to a 3d modelling program and morph it in there. Wings3d and Anim8or are simple free modelling programs that you can download. There's also a special Poser morph program called MorphMaster.
Working with Poser, like any artistic tool, takes a lot of time and practise. The people here aren't geniuses, ( okay, some of us are ;-) ) they've just spent years doing this stuff and getting smart at it. The good news is, everybody here is happy to give advice to anybody who wants to learn. Check out the tutorials here, and head over to http://drgeep.com/index.html for some very good advice on how to use the basics in Poser.
Good luck, and welcome to the world of Poser!
Thread: You know you've been using Poser too much when... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
When you sit for hours at parties hoping somebody'll ask you what a joint-controlled morph is.
!!!!!When you put exclamation marks at the start of sentences
When you're looking for a lost address book and think, "I'll ask Acadia".
When you break out in hives and think, "that's a great shader".
When you start a new relationship and you think "I wonder if they've fixed multiple undo yet?"
When your girlfriend sits down in a short skirt and you think "how'd they rig her hips?".
Instead of turning to look at someone, you move your hand to where the trackball should be.

They've got a science museum there that's like a geodesic sphere. Could be a do-able modelling job ...
Thread: loss of detail between P4 & firefly | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It might be that antialiasing (called "post filter" in Firefly) can't be switched off, as it can in P4.

Remember, no matter how kinky you are, you'll never be as kinky as the people listening in through the wall.

Thread: Question for Texture Artists | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The basic technique for Poser 4/DazStudio users:
Open the .OJB file in UVMapper
Select the surface you want to tile
Press = key to fill the whole UV space with your surface
Press the * key. This gives you a 2 x 2 tile
Press the * key again to get finer tilings
Save the modified .OBJ file
Thread: Question for Texture Artists | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've had good results from tiling wall and floor textures, then putting a dirtmap on them so they don't all look the same. The dirtmap doesn't have to be very high-res. BTW, I believe Poser processes 256 x 256, 512 x 512 etc textures faster than 200 x 200, 500 x 500.

This is one I heard on the radio years ago, from the late great Kenneth Williams -
There was an old man of Madrid
Who went to an auction to bid
The first thing they showed
Was an ancient commode
What-ho! when they took off the lid
Thread: how to re-work just mouth lipsync in mimic but maintain current pose? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As far as I can recall (not used Mimic for a while) there are options to turn off things like blinks, head movements, etc. Just uncheck these and the animation should affect the mouth only.

BTW -If you're still finding it difficult to use the magnets, there's a freeware tool called Morph Master that's a bit more intuitive.
Thread: "Copy" and "Paste" function | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Magnets sure are tricky to learn. It doesn't help that they're not the best visual metaphor. Perhaps some advanced Poser hacker can come up with a more intuitive-looking geometry for them.
Imagine instead a different kind of tool, like an adjustable spanner or monkey wrench.
The magsphere is the metal bit that latches onto whatever you're working on. You can adjust its size so it grabs a bigger or smaller number of verts on the mesh.
The magnet itself is the plastic handle of the tool. Use it to pull/twist/scale whatever verts the magsphere has grabbed.
The magnet-bar is - well, it corresponds to something you don't often get on a monkey-wrench! Imagine it as an extendable telescopic shaft linking the handle to the bit. Without disturbing the magsphere or anything the magsphere has grabbed hold of, you can pull the handle of the tool off to one side so you can see what you're doing. Clicking back on the magnet "locks" the telescopic shaft again.
The best advice I can give is to bring in a sphere prop or something, and just practise teasing out bits of it with a magnet until you have a feel for what the tool does.
