I think the price goes up to $299 shortly. I am very happy with it also, tho wish it were a little bit faster. But that's what updates are for :)
I found that it completely remade my workflow and made everything so much easier to keep track of for me. Very nice.

Now, as fate would have it, we got to the second waterfall and a very nasty, large thunderstorm suddenly came booming in! This was once again a waterfall after that, but we were too busy trying to get out of the preserve because we had no rain gear. The camera survived. :)

Thread: The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT- Any users? | Forum: Photography
Hi striving,
I've owned a Rebel XT since August of 2006 and I have to say I've been very happy with it! Prior to the XT I used Canon point and shoots (the A80 was the last I had). I do mostly nature type shots. Not much macro, but that's something I do want to do.
I originally went to buy a Nikon D50 (the D70 was slightly out of my range). After handling them both I felt like the Canon felt a little better in my hand. Of course, this will vary between people and hand sizes. :)
The "kit lens" isn't the best, but I think you'll be suprised to find out it's not quite as horrible as alot of people make it out to be. Course, compared to L glass it's absolute crap, but for beginning photographers I think it's great. I used it for awhile until I knew enough where I wanted a sharper shot.
Take a look at Robert Mekis' gallery on deviantart (http://robertmekis.deviantart.com/). He primarily uses the Digital Rebel and the Digital Rebel XT, with the kit lens, to do his panoramas. I think it's a glowing representation of what the kit can do.

Hi All,
Since I posted my original message, I went and grabbed the latest Beta, and then watched some of the video tutorials. Then a lightbulb went on! Since writing the original message, I've imported about half of my photos into Lightroom, properly keyworded, and I have to say (despite the speed issue in the beta) that I'm hooked. It's amazing what a couple of days can do :)
I'll be buying the final now. It looks like version 1.0 has a couple of other cool features, judging from the video tutorials on adobe's site (such as "stacks", which shows you 1 thumbnail for different versions of a picture, which you can then expand to see all versions, very neat).

How much do you charge?!
I've tried drop shots so many times, and always get so frustrated ::chuckle::

This was the first time using a monopod and it was real grey out with a semi-longish shutter. Out of fucus.

Thread: Test: image protection method | Forum: Photography
Maybe it's just me, but I find all the "protections" (short of watermarking) to be somewhat funny. All the attempts to use flash and such... Easiest method for ripping:
Take a screen shot, paste it into a Photoshop (or paint, or whatever) document. Unless it's watermarked, voila.
Edit: I stumbled acrossed this because I was trying to think of how I would protect my own images, once I'm good enough to need protecting, NOT because I'm a ripper. Just thought I'd clarify ::chuckle::
Personally I guess posting a smallish, watermarked, lower quality image is probably the best bet.

Quote - Oh, and not to be cruel.... If you are doing art only to satisfy yourself, why are you posting it online?
Easy to answer: hopefully those viewing my stuff will have pointers on how I can improve. Sure, I could (and do) rely on reading material (especially for photography), but sometimes it's a person with experience that can point out some small detail that can help me produce something more pleasing (to myself). The reverse works as well... Sometimes having reinforcement that I "got it right" lets me know I'm on the right path.
