Well...poo. That's not very reassuring. I mean, I appreciate your honest feedback, not "sugar coating" the issue, but it's disheartening to read it could one or more of half a dozen independent causes. Forcibly retired in November 2021 when the company (for whom I worked nearly 30 years) outsourced our department, I'm currently living on my life savings. As such, I'm trying to be VERY careful with expenditures. I'm resistant to "sending it to the shop" for a professional analysis and possible repairs....when you get this behavior where a program simply "goes away"...no real errors, no real weird behavior before that- it just vanishes, it's a memory addressing issue. Could be your physical RAM, could be the memory on the video card, could be hardware on the motherboard that sits between the memory and the rest of the system. Could be driver issues or even a windows update. Unfortunately, memory issues can be maddening to try and track down.

Something just dawned upon me.
Poser Pro 2014 does not make use of the Graphics Processor Unit, right? That feature was not integrated until Poser 12. So, rendering functions for PP2014 are totally driven by the Central Processor Unit. Given those caveats, would updating the video drivers really have any effect upon "pre SuperFly" versions of the program?
I will confess I'm still too scared to open scenes or load any items that were present when I first really observed the problem. It's like I don't want to jinx myself. But i know I eventually must risk it, kinda' like returning to the saddle after being thrown from a horse.

I don't play computer/video games, so that's not an issue for me. Thankfully, when I got ready to download the drivers, the NVIDIA site stated the difference between "gaming" and "studio" versions. I chose the latter....the studio drivers will only cost you 1-2% game performance if any, it's worth it if they're stable.

Thanks! My virus scan took most of the night and found my system clean.
First thing this morning I ran the built-in RAM analysis (since I didn't know at the time which of those files to grab) and it came up "clean".
Finally, I installed the NVIDIA drivers.
Just after lunch I risked opening Poser and ran a short session, opening an existing A3 scene from a few month back with just two conforming items. It seemed stable and I closed Poser (in a controlled fashion) after maybe 10 minutes of minor puttering. I tweaked a texture map in PaintShop Pro and then launched Poser a second time, loading the clothing item my texture would affect. Again, kept it open only for maybe 5 minutes before controllably closing the program because I just couldn't stand to see it just *BLIP* off the screen once again.
So, really, I don't know if my efforts so far have actually helped or not. I'm just too paranoid to see the problem possibly continue. Silly of me, I know...

Okay, I accessed the site.Redfern posted at 6:41 PM Tue, 14 March 2023 - #4458462
One of the very best RAM testers can't be found inside Windows, it remains Memtest, the one from memtest dot org, one that you can put on an USB stick for example and boot with. Free and Open Source.cabled posted at 5:53 PM Tue, 14 March 2023 - #4458459
Dumb question here... How do I diagnose the RAM sticks?Mine turned out to be a bad memory stick, just tracked it down. Given that Redfern's behavior is identical to mine, I'd run some diagnostics.
(Not associated with a potential RAM issue, but I have checked all my drives of errors (none found), ran a defrag on each and I'm currently running a deep virus scan that may take a few more hours.)
And no: I'm not affiliated, I just know this one from the time when 1MB sticks of RAM costed something like 90$
Uh... Which is the correct download icon?! The page is littered with stuff and I suspect a lot of it is actually adware!

Ah, I found the app, but it recommends I restart my machine. I will let the virus scan complete before doing that.
However, I will check about the video drivers.

Thread: What Poser Version are you using and Why ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser Pro 2014
Why? It just proved very stable upon the machine I bought around 2010 running Windows 7. I kept with it until my PC started to :show its age" in the Fall of '21. I was eventually forced to purchase a new machine by the end of the year because began to 'choke" nearly every task, not just Poser, even NotePad! However, I had to prioritize expenses somewhere because the company for whom i worked nearly 30 years "outsourced" my department (when I say "my", I just mean where I worked; I was not a manager) and all the employees for that section were "let go". When I discovered my version of Poser worked well enough upon the replacement Windows 11 box, I saw no need to upgrade. I'm trying to be VERY frugal with my expenses as I'm currently living on mt "savings". I've all but stopped buying assets, instead searching for items I can download for free.

From this product, the Technophilia Volume 1 - Techno Tentacles. They have a nice feature to play with the scaling which does NOT distort the bends and twists. I can use these same arms, flattening then along the "Y" axis to resemble the "dryer hose" type arms of the "Lost in Space" Robot B-9.where are those octo-arms from?
The pincers come from a vintage product which may no longer be available Ajax's "EasyPose Tentacle". They are a separate figure that would normally conform to the larger tentacle, but for this setup I simply "parented" them. I also "hid" the base of the claw leaving only the digits visible I thought they looked more like the twee "fingers" of the "golden age" styled arms.

Looks like Mzzkiti raided Droulin's Spidey jammies!
Since the textures fit M3 and Hiro 3, logically they should fit Aiko 3 and by extension, Melody for A3, the figure I use to depict Lt. Mzzkiti a web comic OC of of mine. Because I use the "Kasa for Aiko" digitigrade feet (a long discontinued product), admittedly, there's a bit of texture stretching around the ankle, but it could be far worse. For her opera styled mask, I used the goggles from Joe Quick's Cat Woman set for V4 and geometry "cloned" from the heavily morphed head of Mzzkiti. The Spiderman mask pattern is from JoeQuick's M4 set.
Well, I admit this is getting quite silly! I rather expect Graham Chapman's military officer to enter and break up the proceedings! "Right! That's quite enough of that!"

My immediate need was resolved thanks to JoePublic, but if you have a Spiderman texture mapped for M3 that you're willing to share with the Poser community at large, I'm sure users of those legacy figures will appreciate it!I'm sure I made one years ago, along with a texture for Sharby's mask. I'll see if I can find it.

It's an item used a bit unconventionally, an EasyPose rigged tail figure that, sadly, has been unavailable for several years, but here's the defunct product page for those curious...And... woah: that fur is amazing

The final arrangement...
Mzzkiti: "So, I'm cosplaying as whom, exactly?"
Phahnboi: "Why, Spiderman's greatest nemesis..."
Phahnboi: "...Dr. Octopussy!"

I LOVE his name! LOLThanks! he's one of the characters from this long "dead" web-comic which I co-created along with (the late) Paul Scott Gibbs.

Some years ago I challenged myself to depict the cast in polygonal form. Given my graphite based designs Aiko 3 and Hiro 3 proved the best choices for the exercise.

Thanks!
Yes, Space Protectorate Force Cadet Droulin Phahnboi does look a bit like Howdy Doody. His design is intentional.
