Thread: How can I delete my Gallery? | Forum: Community Center
Giana posted at 3:53PM Mon, 29 February 2016 - #4258208
... go to your gallery, and as you are looking at your images, you'll notice a nice little red trashcan icon next to EACH image.
[sarc]now here comes the exciting part...[/sarc] you need to delete each image one by one using the icons. no, there is not a 'nuke my gallery' button the way there used to be with the old site design; you are now required to remove images individually.
here's a tip though that i discovered:
you can always turn it into a game!! [rolls eyes] -
even though it is image by image, if you are quick with a mouse, you can actually click 3-5 trashcan icons before the page rolls over and the site WILL recognise all of those clicks, thus eliminating the gallery can potentially go a touch faster than one might assume at first....
fun times, fun times
If your mouse has a scroll wheel that acts as a "third button" you can just use that to click the can. It opens links in a new window or tab and if you set your browser to open them but stay on your current page, it eliminates the wait time for the page to reload. Then you can do whole pages rather quickly.
Hope that helps.
I, too, think the moderation here is ... ummm ... Bad.
At least they gave a reason that time! I have seen threads locked with no final post from whoever locked it and many people complain that their posts are removed or edited with no explanation.
That is so amateur it makes this site appear like it's run by high school kids.
I don't like the new rules, but I don't argue the rules as I am too new here - but I do take issue with the moderation.
Knowing how to moderate should be a prerequisite to becoming a moderator!
.
Edit: Since Kristi asked for an example, here is a recent thread which got locked with no explanation:
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2899928
To make it more interesting, somebody from staff posted in the thread after it was locked and actually asked for more input - as if they didn't even notice they were posting in a locked thread!
Not very professional, but understandable if this site really is run by kids!

Thread: Mandelbulb3Dv1.9Beta version | Forum: Fractals
Hi Len.
Just in case you didn't know, the size limits have been raised dramatically in the gallery over at fractal forums! The server upgrade made a lot of changes possible. It's not Super HD, but it's a big increase.
EDIT: Just had a peek - the new gallery limits are:
Max image filesize: 25.54MB Max width 10000 pixels Max height 10000 pixels
As for slumming around here - I've always been into using poser content (in Carrara) to blend with fractals. Mostly Cows, but sometimes other stuff. Even if they are only a backdrop because I'm too lazy to build an appropriate environment!

Thread: DAZ eats RunetimeDNA | Forum: Carrara
Hi Stan!
I found my way here too. I never bought much content from anybody but did like DAZ and still do, however I may be moving on to Renderotica as I just want to be able to speak freely without fear of any restrictive TOS problems. I'll still be around all the usual sites, including DAZ until they throw me out for calling Genesis by it's more accurate name of Genocide (already warned about that, but I am not sure I can resist such a wonderful joke for long!).
I had an old account here which I forgot about until recently. I wonder if I have one at RDNA too? I may go look, just for funzies...

Thread: Bi-Monthly Challenge - THE LAKE - Entry Page | Forum: Bryce
Weird. The image I posted a few posts up isn't showing anymore.
I'm not sure if it's a localized-to-my-'puter issue, or something else. So I'll post it again and if it's showing in both posts for everyone else then mods may feel free to delete whichever one they please.
Here's what I posted, in case that post gets deleted:

Well, may as well post this here. It wasn't made specifically for this challenge but it's a lake!
The splash is a fractal obj file made in Incendia, and the ripples were added in post work, but the cow climbed, and jumped from, the tree while still in Bryce!
I don't usually use Bryce much, but saw this challenge and thought it needed a cow.
Every challenge needs a cow!

So am I the only one that seems to have been 'blocked' by Renderosity? I can no longer access Rendo via my usual IP, I have to use a proxy. I find it suspicious how that happened only minutes after I made a critical post on the forum, which btw got deleted without any notification. Is this how it works now?
That crap (moderators taking actions without explaining them to the effected users) is why I started this thread!
I've said it before, but it bears repeating :
...the first thing any moderator needs to know is that any action taken that directly effects a user MUST be explained to that user. Failing to do that is just ... unprofessional at best and incompetent at worst.
And that explanation MUST be given :
At the same time as taking action! Timing of informing people is critical. This site lacks the activity to claim that the staff are too busy for that simple courtesy.
I am not arguing the rules, just stating that they are enforced in such a way that makes the staff look foolish, and inexperienced in the ways of running forums.
If you want a community - you have to communicate!
I understand that change is hard for moderators, but it's for their own good! If you learn nothing else from this thread, learn that taking action requires follow through. Without that you only make an already bad situation far, far worse.
Unless they truly don't care.
Which is the only conclusion one can draw from such arrogance.

Crap! They're on to my scheme of embedding viruses in my fractal obj files!!
Now I'll have to figure out how to embed viruses in images and upload them so everyone who views the image will lose all data on their hard drives!
Nyah-Ha-Ha-Ha! * Twirls handlebar mustachio * [/sarcasm]
OK seriously, I have no problem with whatever rules they want to apply here. If they become too annoying, I'll just go away. Maybe state my reasons first and see if anyone cares, but having run a lot of forums myself - I know full well that rule changes are inevitable, as is negativity resulting from them.
But it's life and we all move on.
I did take issue with my free fractal obj files thread being locked, but not because of the rule taking effect - I was put off by the fact that whatever moderator locked it did so with no post of any kind explaining why, not even a sitemail or an email. It is a Rule for moderators at every site I have ever worked that taking actions that directly effect a user Require those actions be explained at the time they are taken.
Not later, after complaints are made and questions are asked in pointed ways.
Ya wanna tip from a recent rule change over at Fractalforums.com? (yup - Shameless self promotion!) (I do help run that place)
Our gallery was getting spammed by a few users posting literally dozens of images at once and monopolizing the recent posts area. We restricted the Gallery uploads to One Per Member Per Day. We knew this would cause an uproar, and we also knew that merely posting an "Announcement" was grossly insufficient to be sure people knew what we were doing.
So we set it up that on their next visit every member would be greeted with a message telling them that they had to read the post linked to before they could do anything else on the site.
That way at least nobody could get caught off guard (like I was when visiting here to find locked threads with no explanation).
I read in this thread that posts are disappearing. Sad, but necessary sometimes. I trust the members whose posts were removed were informed. If not, this is not the sort of place I want to be. If so, at least people are doing their job.
I sort of understand the not linking to outside sites, but claiming it is anything other than a Business decision to avoid promoting other sites is an insult.
Has ANYBODY ever gotten a virus from a free 3D File posted here, or at ShareCG, or even at the DAZ Forums Freepozitory?
If so, I will be the first to apologize and support this action. Otherwise I stand by my belief that it is a money making decision and the stated reason of Virus Protection is a smokescreen designed to hide the true intentions of The Man Behind The Curtain.
That brings up a good point - is even ShareCG banned from being a host for free stuff? If so, that surely invalidates your virus excuse since they screen everything. Feed your ego all you want. It's your site to do with as you please. But things that are perceived as insulting really should be avoided.

Thread: I See Why People Complain Here | Forum: Community Center
I read the rule about linking to off site commercial stuff, but my site sells nothing and is not commercial in any sense of the word.
The way the rule reads to me is no linking to a site which is competitive, which makes sense - but even if I disagree with the rule, that's fine. It's not my site.
I'm more put off by the crude moderation.
Sure, enforce rules however you see fit, but if you lock a thread it is your responsibility to make a final post right in that thread explaining why. Or, if that is somehow not the way you like to inform users of such things, then use the sitemail.
Not wait for people to ask. The rule is phrased ambiguously enough to fool an old hand at this such as myself, but an explanation - At The Time - would have been nice.

Thread: Fractal obj Files - Mandelbulb And Maybe More | Forum: Freestuff
Thanks again, Dan! I always thought that one looked like a Trilobite or something.
I had a crazy busy weekend! Couldn't get back here.
But here's another one that I get a lot of use from! It's a sort of tiara like fractal made from an Iterated Function System formula. The obj is very rough and not good for close ups, but in some circumstances, and with the right camera angles/distance or textures, it is also quite versatile!
Here are some pictures...
Untextured and at normal scale:
And if you scale it along one axis (maybe 2 or 3, but separately!) it can be made to fit people's heads!
It also makes a nice splash for when your cow jumps out of a tree and into the lake!
That's actually on the home page at Sockratease.com while I build a proper site!
And, of course, a link to the 4Mb zip file containing a 31 Mb obj file.
Direct: http://www.sockratease.com/3d/zipz/tiara.zip
It's also got a very basic uv mapping. I gotta learn how to do that properly someday...

Thanks UVDan
Here;s one that I found versatile enough that it worked it's way into several renders : http://www.sockratease.com/3d/zipz/thingy.zip
And some preview pics:
I use Carrara, and this one works great with it's modifiers like "Bend and Twist" or other deforming tricks.
File size is similar to the bulb in the first post.
Guess I'll edit that post to include this, and all future links...
EDIT - Nevermind! Can't edit that post!! Guess that's a limit placed for some reason, but it may be a good idea to allow it in certain cases like this so folks don't need to read through whole threads to find all links

Didn't work out?
Ummm...
Let's not bring it's exercise routine into things
It seems to me that people already use the Community Center for that purpose. With topics like Good Morning and Good Night and Finish The Lyrics, it's hard to deny that such topics are allowed there.
Or that's how it looks to a newcomer to the forums anyhow.
