Jimdoria, that is about the best, clearest explanation of Poser that I have ever read I have been messing with it for years, but you lay it out beautifully, and I learned a thing or two myself! as the Aussies say "Good on ye".

I would be happy to help you, but rather than take up the bandwidth here in the forum, out can we use something like yahoo messenger? That would let me help you without a lot of back and forth on this site. I am sparky8c@yahoo.com. We can get you started on a very interesting hobby, and yes, you have an excellent starter program. As with everything in this biz, there is always a "better" (read more expensive) program, but you will be able to move on up once you get a handle on Poser. you will find many EXCELLENT tutorials on this site, so look around a bit first. Search for Dr Geep.

It installed without any problems here.. and it does load much faster. The render times seem faster, as well. Using XP pro, 2.5Ghz AMD chip, 2Gig ram, NVIDA card. Have to continue to wring it out, but it certainly seems like a nice improvement

I now use P6 exclusively, having decided to learn the new version as well as I could. I have tried many lighing sets over the years, and always come back to the fact that no one set works for every scene. So I always wind up with the three basic lighting system used in photography,ie, key light, background light and fill..if needed, I plug in a spot or two to illuminate the faces, or other areas I want to emphasize, always adjusting the intensity of all the lights so as not to "wash out" the textures.Every render gets individual lighting setups. There "aint't no easy way". Believe me, if there were, I'd be using it, as I am lazy to the bone!

Three or four lights are all that you need in P6. You have to get used to how to set the shadow, angle end, and distance end before you pull out all your hair. I had quite a problem with this until I got an understanding of how that lighting works from Dr Gleep (A genius!)and Zell, (another gem!)

Yas, thank you. I hadn't thought of that. I use zonealarm, and that's a very practial solution
Thread: Poser 6 hangs when rendering? | Forum: Poser Technical
I have had this problem from time to time. My solution was to get a program called "memturbo" (www.shareware.com). This dosen't cure everything, but it sure has saved the day more than once. I typically render using firefly, with the dimensions at 1024X760 and 150dpi, which is smaller than most of you like to work. I still get crabs from viewers on dial-ups who complain that the files are too big, but that's too bad. I prefer to give quality, and I feel for folks who can't get broadband, but that's life. I have found I can't render more than eight or nine figures in a scene without risking a freeze. I have 1.5Gig of ram.

Looked at your postings, and you are doing just fine!I also usually render at 1024X768 in P6, but I'm not married to the idea, and so my pix vary considerably. My tip to you is the watch your lighting. In 3d it's quite difficult to achieve properly, so learn how to move those lights, position them where you want them and get the intensities set to sensible values. Otherwise, your art shows the benefit of your 2D experience, and it's fine. I like your choice of subject matter, and I have always favored big boobs, so keep up the good work!
