I was thinking about the morph/texture problem on the metro coming to work. If the objects are already mapped, then you can simply export the objects and get a template from UV Mapper. Don't make any changes to the mapping and the textures will work. If the objects are not mapped. Surely you can map them in Poser, which will save the map information to the original objects, and then export - again grab the template from with the UV mapper! Poser makes a hash of mapping anything more than a sqaure, but if you map each side seperately you should get a reasonable template. I know many people have never used Poser's UV mapper. If you don't know about it, it's an option in the edit screen (whatever it's called - that thing wher you select individual faces of the model.)

Thanks geep, That'll be handy. How did you get the original figure of (about) 0.75 inches per division?

Don't despair! People are right when they say that Poser is quite limited when it comes to props etc, but this is really a comparison with other, purpose-built apps. You can easily create a greek column, a room, and a great variety of props using Poser alone (see the primitives in the Props section and play around with them). Beg and borrow (but if you steal, keep quiet) primitives from the web to help you build your props and remember that there are a huge number available for free on this site among others. You can even UV map your props in poser (though you can't get a template!). With a couple of free programs (like UV Mapper and PaintShop Pro) you're well on your way to creating almost every kind of pic you see in the gallery. Personally I can neither afford, nor have the time to learn, masses of applications. Using Poser islargely about creativity overcoming the limitations of the program. It is entirely possible, and, I think, a bunch easier than learning a dozen different applications.

Hang on ScottA, I'm never been that regular over here at renderosity, so I just had to double-check that you are in fact the moderator, and not some loony posing as one. Jeff and I won't allow arguing on this forum! Use the vote Not words. Are you straight back from smashing up the latest Anti-globalisation demonstration or something? What is that riot police mentality? Frankly I'm amazed. The MPP has stirred up a debate (and I think it was meant to) about what constitutes art and worthhile art. It's a debate that strikes many people hard - perhaps because they are having to reevaluate the value of what they themselves have been striving to produce with so many hours of patient practice. I'm not surprised people are arguing, and its the healthiest thing I've seen in this forum (it's also the reason I've started looking at the galleries again and making an occassional post). "Stop it now folks or I'll lock you out(up?)", is hardly an attitude that supports a spirit of free expression, and the investigation of ideas -which is presumably while most of us making pictures. I like the MPP, and even more I like what is trying to do. But most of all, I like the fact that it has kicked some people into thinking and arguing about what their 'art' is really all about. Somebody above said "I never understood Warhol until I saw the MPP". I am beginning to share that view. Let's hope that those of us who think that idea needs to be talked and argues about are not locked out for daring to use words. angola (Nick Underwood)

And don't forget to turn down the map size on each light's properties - and even go for a single source.

Spot on Jeff! So the P4 Mat is for Poser 4 (not the pro pack) - I thought it was a Dork compatible version! You have saved my evening and I might even get in a couple of renders before bed. Thanks angola

Could the Top 20 get better launch publicity than this? The Pink Ponies? Somebody trying to be creative and refreshing rather than refining their technique? Why they should be banned. angola
Thread: Poser Surface Material Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Object is simple, it's the object's colour. Highlight is the colour applied to the highlight - set the amount of highlight on the slide bar to determine hos much of the object gets highlighted in this colour (true black = no highlight colour), reflection is the colour of the reflects (and can do illogical things) and ambient is strange glow that can make your render awesome, or just be a pain in the arse. Load a simple prop into a new window, set your light map low (256 default is fine) and play around with the colours for a whole afternoon, rendering everytime. There's no better way to get to grips with this stuff.

Or morph both clothes and body at the same time by adding the clothes to the body magnet via the magnet properties window. And it's not true that I just had to add that because I feel intimidated by Phil C's personalised typeface - where did you get that?

I've just seen your head dress. The suggestion is that you finge the feathers. Open your texuture in your graphics editor, white out the whole of the feather and black the background - a kind of inverse silhouette. Then with a 'very' small paintbrush tool feather the edges in black. Build it up slowly rather than attempting to do it in one go (I hope you have one feather texture for all of the feathers or this is going to be long). When you've got what looks like a b/w feather, open the material editor and select the image you just saved as the transparency map. The headdress will look funy until you render it but it should be worth the effort.

transparency maps are just like bump maps. only the darker the area on the map, the more transparent the image is (or the opposite - i forget).

Are you kidding. I'm sure people will lap these up! The meatal hair is amazing. Please tell me it's rendered in Poser so I can dream that one day I'll render something like that, please!
