I use MentalRay in 3ds Max. Why is MentalRay available for D|S?

Thanks for the clarification. Not familiar with 3Delight. I have my hands full with Firefly and MentalRay.

Thanks guys. This is very useful. My last dalliance with DS was a while ago. The rendering engine was basically a very rudimentary scanline renderer with no AO or GI capabilities which really hampers realism.
Your images are quite impressive DustRider. If you achieved that in DS with no 3rd party add-ons I'd be confident to give DS another try.
My interest in DS was sparked by the Genesis models since they are not available to Poser.

I have tried switching to SreeD Preview. It did not solve the issue.
I have visited AMD, downloaded the latest driver for the FirePro V7300 and installed it. It did not solve the issue.
If the issue persists, try removing the device using Device Manager, reboot and let Windows install the default Driver, then install the latest.
First time I've heard this one. I'll give that a go. Although confidence is low. : P
I'll report my findings.

The bucket size has no effect. I tried that. I don't see how RAM could be an issue if all I'm doing is clicking OK on a dialog box.
I can see RAM being an issue in rendering or the number of polygons in a scene. But right now my scenes are entirely empty.

I've given up on PoserPro and returned to Poser 7. I've done all the aforementioned that Michael314 with no success.
But I'm glad Michael it worked for you.

Thank you. I'm beginning to wonder by the time I purchase all the plugins I need to do what I want if it isn't more economical to simply buy D|S 3 Advanced.:tongue1:

Thank you for yor reply.
LuxRender looks interesting. I'll play with 3Delight until I max out its capabilities.
Does LuxRender support Normal Maps as well? That would be a real bonus if it did. Well does it handle GI/Final Gathering?

So would I skeletonkiss.
As for that Mackis3D character, I've been doing 3D for about 10 years now. I currently run 3ds Max 2011, Maya 2011, Mudbox, UDK, Zbrush, Vue Xtreme 9.0 with no problems on my 2.5 Gb machine. Poser is the only app giving me issues and of course the latest games but who has time to play them when you're into 3D. : P
TrekkieGrrl I'll try what you say but the way permissions works in Win7 as I see it, is not restricted to the Programs folder. No matter where Poser is installed (especially if it is not on the C Drive) will cause permissions issues. I have a couple of apps installed that way and everytime I run them I get that windows dialog asking for permission to run it just like you do when you run an install.
I'll report back with my latest findings. Thanks everyone.

Well I thought I was the only one until I seached and found this thread.
Everytime there is a dialog box of any kind that requires you to click on OK, my Poser 8 just hangs.
I've followed the advice here. I switched to SreeD and still the problem persists. I launched in prefered state with a blank screen. I add a figure, add a single piece of clothing and conform click OK and it hangs.
I can't get anywhere with this program.
and yes I have the absolute latest video drivers installed.

The computer I have now I've built myself. It cost me just over 2Gs. About 3 weeks later I was just browsing the Dell sight and they had an almost identical machine to my build for $800 less. So, either I'm a bad shopper (I bought components from all over the world) or Dell really knows what they're doing.

Oh, I have my eye firmly on those too. Along with the 160 Gb solid state drive and the ATI FirePro 8800. But I'd have to sell one of my eyes to get one past my wife's chastity belt which is firmly around my wallet. : (

Well, the Gamma Correction alone is reason enough I think. But it looks like a lot of the differences lie in 64 bit compatability. And I'm still on a steam powered 32 bit machine.
