I agree -- Cinepak is the best codec for .AVIs. But I get my best animations by rendering in sequential .BMPs. I rename them to .DIBs and pull them into Videdit (freeware) to make the .AVI, then output it using no compression. This makes a crystal clear .AVI. I haven't compared filesizes for that approach vs. straight rendering to an .AVI, but I suspect it's quite a bit larger. - Jim
Thread: Question - Exporting | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Roy, that's a problem that's been raised before, and I'm not sure anyone's found an easy solution. I don't have Poser in front of me right now, but something that might be worth trying is exporting a figure as a .DXF, then importing it, then exporting it as an .OBJ. I just don't recall whether or not .DXFs retain their hierarchies... - Jim

Or, if there's a P4 texture you REALLY like, you could use a paint program to cut and paste the various elements onto the appropriate P3 template. Or you could use UVMapper to remap the P3 figure to correspond to the P4 textures. Obviously both of those approaches are more labor-intensive than just finding a P3 texture you like, though. - Jim

Hmmmmm.... I haven't tried it, but how about either using an all-white texture map, or no texture map and a white base color, and checking the "apply to all" box? - Jim

Thread: Morph Targets Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, Bill -- Lemme see if I understand this correctly. Say I have a face with a parameter dial for a bumpy nose, and it's set at 0.5. Then I add a magnet to widen the nose. Now I have a bumpy, wide nose. So I spawn the morph target, delete the magnet, and dial the new "wide nose" parameter dial to 1.0 (with the "bumpy nose" parameter still set at 0.5). Should I get the result that showed up before I deleted the magnet? Or do I need to now dial the bumpy nose parameter down to Zero to get that? - Jim
Thread: AVI creation software? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Videdit has a buttons for 24 bit color and 16 bit color. Let us know what you pick, though. Always looking for good utilities. Thanks. - Jim

Videdit will do that, and it's freeware. It's not too difficult to find with a search engine. Here's one site that has it. http://www.sharbor.com/pc/downloads/features.html By the way, you'll get better animations that way than you can using the standard .avi codecs. Videdit will build the .avi without compression if you wish, and is pretty easy to learn. - Jim

Shoot, Anson, I thought your Subject said "Using Poser 4 to destroy my stretching skills" and I nodded my head and muttered to myself, "yup."

Actually, I think that was the suggestion made by Dave and Steveshanks -- But glad it worked out. And, Steve, thanks for the Tutorial address.

I haven't yet used uvmapper, and my knowledge of 3D formats is, ah..... imcomplete. I'm kind of under the impression, though, that DXF doesn't support UV maps (please don't take that as gospel -- I could easily be wrong). But if nothing else works, you might try converting the model to an .OBJ first.
