Hi folks, nice to see you too :-D Thanks for the nice comments ! I'm a bit reassured about this beard now :-) As Davide guessed, i used Fake Fresnel here, not only for the skin but for every single shader . It gives some interesting results and can help make the volume stand out . I'm very fond of it, thanks Eric for this simple yet so useful tool ! Actually, i'm looking for a render that looks 3D but also colorful and warm, with a bit of a comics touch . Right now, i'm using various effects : intensive use of fake fresnel, a very bright ambient light (the two get along together well), and also a bit of Toon! outline . And about the helmet, as i said it's temporary, just to give me an idea of the shape . The final helmet will probably be made of wood with metal stuff ... I'll decide when i'll do it ! Your Camembert friend from France ... no cheddar, please ! ;-) litst ----> www.chez.com/litst

It's probably because your sky is too blue, so it casts blue light . Try another color that is less saturated, it should work .

Yes, definitely yes . Carrara supports global illumination with skylights to make this kind of lightning . To model the woman, Carrara isn't the most productive solution, but it can do it . See my head modeling tutorial on my website (in my sig) but keep in mind that it's an old tut and that Carrara supports subdivision surfacing now and that makes things much easier . The hair would be the tricky part, but nothing impossible here ... litst -----> www.chez.com/litst
Thread: Linking a Vertex object to the cross-section of a spline object | Forum: Carrara
Or ... you can group the two objects and apply bones to both because bones can be applied to groups . But when you apply bones, your Spline object will automatically be converted to vertex, so if you want a clean conversion, you'd better make it yourself before you apply bones . litst

Thanks a lot, it works :) Looks like Carrara 2 really takes a lot of RAM on Mac, even on OS 9 . Thanks again, litst

Freid, have you used a lot of soft shadows ? With high resolutions ? They eat a lot of ressources, especially when coupled with GI .

Thanks, TJ . Well, this half pipe is perfect ! :) I'm glad you found my tut useful, i hope i'll have the time to make more one day ... though i doubt it, unfortunately (or fortunately, being busy can be good at times) litst -----> www.chez.com/litst
Thread: Learning Curve-Carrara?? | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for the info guys ! Well, we were on MacOS9 with no patch for Carrara, so ... ;) Happily we haven't rendered a lot of GI scenes ! To Will : thanks, yeah it was very fun ! :)
Thread: Learning Curve-Carrara?? | Forum: Carrara
Hi folks, Jang, i think you can download a PDF file of the manual at Eovia's site ... but i couldn't find it :( . Does anyone know where it is ? Or maybe i just dreamed it ;) Anyway, here's a very good starting point to learn Carrara if you understand american : http://www.computer-training-software.com/carrara.htm The full CD looks really good . You can buy it or ...try to win it here on the forum ! It's the prize for this month's contest :) To Will and Mark : i've been teaching Carrara in a art school here in France, we had some bi-G4 @ 450Mhz but i never could make the SMP option work ... it was all greyed out :( . We were using CS 2.0 unpatched, maybe that's the problem ? litst -----> www.chez.com/litst (tutorials here too)
