I own the lot, every pack, I don't so much play as just watch, and tell them to sleep every so often, great sand box stuff. That said I have all but stopped using poser, and await 2.0 (sims, halo, halflife) with baited breath. Seems to me that games are rapidly approaching poser's quality, but doing so in realime, and in full motion, with less horsepower. fairly slick. Just think what 3.0 will do... later jb

Thread: Poser and "The Sims", Part Deux | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think the problem you'll find is that most sims content is free, you pay to access the site, etc. but the content is esentially free. A lot like some poser sites. I sub to the Sims Resource and have done for years. There are sites that ask you to pay for premium items, but that seems largely to be with hacked and adult objects, not base meshes. They are nice though, though I often think that using symposium and the like is a bit of a scam, as the models are much smaller whe the game runs, so a lot of the detail is lost, when you actually play. I wish you luck though, you always do great stuff. later jb

On a related note this time, with firebord you can right click on the image and select, "remove this image" and then you have no more problems... later jbThread: I got a secret! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'd like to believe it, but given how widespread SPAM is and the fact that no amount of complaining seems to stop it, and the fact that every place I've ever worked as an admin, never makes use of the logs, hell, I'm the only person who reads the postmaster account... I'm more imclined to believe that complaints are ignored. I'm tracking about 7 discrete IP ranges that are just SPAM farms, at present. No amount of complaing will change things, and blocking it will only stop it for so long, I track SPAM more by style, and MX name than by IP these days. The same outfits just keep coming back. later jb

Unless of course you're on DHCP, in which case you just drop the lease request a new one, and bingo! new IP... :)
Thread: Is Poser slowly dying? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Is poser dying? I don't think so, provided people continue to buy content, and continue to render I think poser has a life. I actually don't think it matters one way or another whether CL survive or not, the community has lived through buy outs, splits, public beta tests, etc. and it's still here. People still hang thier work up for others to view and criticise, and for that P4 will do fine. Sure you can get better render engines, but for simple posing, poser is where it's at :) Yes, poser is archaic, and will doubtless work a lot better in a year or more, when brute processor grunt makes it faster, but for generating still images render times really don't come into it, it's not like we're creating animation, or use Bryce... Poser has a long life ahead of if, in spite, (or perhaps in defiance :) of any of the screw-up's perpetrated in it's name. later jb

Dizzie, I recognise that picture, Ester Dyson's (Freeman Dyson's daughter) office, a very smart cookie indeed, proof that an untidy desk is sign of an active mind... :) later jbThread: Poser Artists!! Whats on your desk?? HeHe | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Thread: Linux | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I remeber fondly my first virus, on an Amiga 1000, sometime in the early to mid '80's "Somthing wonderfull has happened, your computer is alive, even better, it has a virus" "cool!" we all thought, "never seen that before..." Now while it's not technically impossible to get a virus under Linux, it is very unlikely, far more unlikely than on either the Mac or PC platforms. There is even some conjecture that Linux is not that much safer than windows, however in it's default build, as a home user system I would have to reckon that Linux is safer than Windows if only for what isn't switched on by default... That said, the choice of OS is more a religious one than anything else, and you will need to buy and configure other programs if you want to run PC programs. In fact you're probably better of buying a cheap box and using that as a DMZ of sorts, install just windows, a virus checker and a firewall on it, and only connect to the 'net with that. That way if it screws up it's simple to re-install. If all you realy want is Poser then you're better off sticking with windows. Just keep it off the 'net and individually virus check everything you download, and you should be fine. Just leave your "Poser" PC off the 'net, it's good to backup the stuff you've downloaded anyway, usefull for crash recoveries... :) later jb
Thread: Keeping Poser 4 on your computer after Upgrading to 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
No problem on a PC, it's annoying that when I double click on an .pz3 it opens it in 5 rather than 4, but I'm living in the vain hope they'll fix 5, otherwise I'll remove it :) later jb
