Thread: March Challenge - WIP - Life, Stilled... | Forum: Bryce
I think the sleeping person would be OK, but I'd worry about the floating cooling gas if it becomes a feature of the image. Mind you, having just posted a query about what can be in a still life myself, I may be too much a a worry wort to answer this. As far as composition is concerned, I wouldn't centre the chamber, but without more of the scene, its hard to comment.

Thread: I could start to really hate windows...... | Forum: Bryce
If you construct one side of the window frame and cut a 45 degree bevel using booleans, then duplicate it and position it by hand against the other side, you are sure to have a small gap. If I am envisaging the kind of window you are making right, the frames should just butt against eachother with no divider. Giving a standard glass a bump, white diffuse value and a touch of white ambience can make an OK frosted glass look.

Thread: Render question | Forum: Bryce
I am fairly certain that changing the DPI setting in render to disk does not effect the amount of information stored in the image. It is merely a calcuation to derive the correct print size. The factor determining the resolution of an image is the number of pixcels. Rendering a 1024x768 image on screen has exactly the same amount of information as a 1024x768 image rendered to disk, regardless of the DPI set. If a 1024x768 image is to be printed however, it may only be printed at 3.41 x 2.56 inches (assuming a minimum desired print quality of 300dpi). Printing that image at that size will result in a 300dpi resolution even if printed on a printer with more than 300 dpi quality. Bitmap is definately the best format to choose as it does not have any compression.

Thread: Tree Lab Investigation - part 1 | Forum: Bryce
If you go back to tree lab for the affected tree and touch the randomness scale, the glitch disappears. As you'd rarely want the tress to be identical, and a minor randomise seems a good fast way to get a few replicated trees slightly different, that seems to be an OK workaround.

In addition to that above, I find setting the transparent value to about 6 or 8 % helps remove edges
Thread: How do I........ | Forum: Bryce
Depth of field gives a very powerful illusion of scale. with no other clues to guide, the more DOF used, the smaller objects will appear. (I reckon the more blurred the forgeround, the closer it will appear and the more blurred the background, the future away it will appear.)
Thread: May Challenge "The Duel": The Gladiators - First Blood! | Forum: Bryce
You're kidding me ! Those are metaball humans wearing boolean and latice armour ? You must have the patience of a Saint ! You certainly have a heaven sent talent. Come on tell the truth, you started this thing last year and picked the challenge topic to suit didn't you ? I can see where you want to do some teaking, but I'm sure you see it more clearly. The only thing I'd question is the camera angle, perhaps a tad extreme ? Fantastic work ... I can't find the words ... Scott

Sheres with volume textures have always given me the best results. A single large sphere in the background with smaller ones at strategic spots to fill in where needed. The sheres can't be to small or too squished and overlapping them usually causes artifacts where the materials intersect. One of the best of the volume materials to play with is the yellow/brown smog preset (with the colours altered). You can adjust the scale and world/object spacing of that one easily to achieve the desired effect. A lot of trial and error in involved regardless of what material you use. Check the link to see an example, it the best I've managed to produce.Thread: May challenge entry - "The Eternal Duel" | Forum: Bryce
100% Bryce 5, ultra fine res, all optics off, boolean cylinders. trying for that pop arty feel ... man.
Thread: March Challenge Voting Results Are Here!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Forum: Bryce
I like the scoring consept Humorix, and the idea of contestant driven admin of the challenge, suits me to a tee. The scoring takes the Monthly Bryce Challenge to a new level, but I fear that asking contestants to arrange their own submissions for voting may disadvantage more casual forum members. Not being able or inclined to make regular visits here shouldn't prevent an entry, all are welcome after all. Oh, and a duel sounds great, leaves a lot to interpretation and should get plenty of entries.
