I think the gray (thumbnail) files have PMD as their extension.
And I did un-check the separate binary file.
And then noticed that my red (thumb) file got substantially larger.
Is the two-files system an atttempt to save space? (At the expense of accuracy?)

Thread: P9 Windows - REVERT seems to kill morphs - Help, please. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm away from that computer at the moment, but I had noticed that the program was saving 2 files for some poses -- which, at the moment, I'll refer simply as the:
Red thumbnail file
The gray thumbnail file
The red one is the usual pose file. I suspect the other -- which isn't always present (or at least hasn't been) -- may be the other type you mention.
I don't remember turning that option on, and if you say it's a problem, I will happily turn it off.
But, being curious, can you tell me why it would be bad?
Thanks.

I use Xamvera's perfect morphs on (most of) my characters.
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=94928
Could all the channels that uses contribute?
Not exactly sure what a binary morph is.
The last time this happened, I "lost" the ability to use morphs on an attached (genital) prop, on the character's hair, and it screwed up an adjustment I'd made on a conformed top, too.
The hair seemed to show the (adjustment) morph -- as did the others -- but they didn't actually do what they were supposed to. When I replaced the hair, I could morph it again.
So, I've assumed that what was happening was that those files in the scene were being corrupted somehow.
But, really, I'm close to being completely out of my depth trying to figure out the inner workings of the program.
I just don't want to accidentally nuke what I'm doing (again), and have to start over (again). So if I could figure out what the issue is, and if there's some kind of fix, that'd be great.
Right now, I've reverted to saving multiple versions, so I have a "go back" option.
Thanks for your reply and help.

Thread: Poser 9 - Slow to Come Back After Render | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeah, I've done the standard install with P9 in the program files and the content/runtime in the document files -- like it wants. No problem there.
It may be the anti-virus, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to turn that off -- even temporarily. But, it' expiring in 8 days, and I have an upgrade handy, so I may try that.
Any other tips?

Yeah, I could turn BD off -- though I'd prefer to not be online when I do, which would mean missing out on any other advice, right now.

Quote - Checking separate process shouldn't change anything in the Poser recovery after render. I haven't seen that on an XP OS.
Question: Is Poser installed in Programs Files folder of Win7? If so, with limited UAC, Win7 might be slowing the process down by analyzing the rendering. But because there is no other system information, I am only guessing.
It's installed in the standard place it wanted to install. The 64-bit program files folder, I think.
UAC?
So, basically, you think Windows is looking each render over as it saves the preview/backup?
(It wouldn't be my Bit Defender, would it?)
My P7 file was installed directly to the C drive (still is), as someone suggested that would be good at the time.

I did not.
But I do now, and I'm giving it a try...
It does seem to be speeding up the render a bit. (How does this work? I never tried it in previous versions.)
... Still took 3 minutes or so to let me use the workspace, though.
Maybe it cut down the "return time" a little but without putting a stopwatch to it, it still seemed pretty long.
Other ideas?

Quote - Thanks guys The one I have is called RM Lora by Rebelmommy which is nolonger sold here
Actually, she was/is called "Lara" (with 2 A's) and she's right here:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/rmth-lara-for-v4/56147/
There was an earlier version of her that looked slightly different -- but Rebel Mommy is very nice, and if this isn't the Lara you're looking for, she might help you out with the older version.
(RM's Lara is used as the base for the face of the Crimson figure in my renders.)

The truly furry animals are great. If it were in Poser, there's a good chance I'd have bought it already.
Which is to say, I hope a Poser version is coming very soon.

Oh, THAT thing.
If it puts my (new) runtime in documents, is that a problem?
On the old one, I installed Poser 7 directly on C-drive, avoiding the UAC, I guess.
Obviously, I don't want UAC or anything screwing up P9, but I do want to try and keep this install simple.
I haven't had any trouble with P7, but no sense buying trouble down the line.

Quote - UAC is User Account Control and if you don't know what or where it is, it's already on ;). It's on by default. It's meant to keep bad programs and viruses from writing to anything in your Program Files (x86) and Programs (x64) folders.

Quote - You can point to the Poser 7 runtime. Just be advised that if you run Windows Vista/7/8 that UAC will apply, so do not install content to your Poser runtime if you have UAC turned on. During the install it will create a content runtime in your Documents folder.
You can either move the Poser 7 runtime or leave it where it is if you think you may still want to use it from time to time. Poser 9 will not overwrite your Poser 7 install. You can point to it where ever it is.

What is UAC? And am I likely to have it turned on without knowing it?

Thread: P7 crashes when I try to delete figure or object | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
100 levels of undo? That's crazy. That's what versions are for, IMHO.
I'll check that next time I use the program.
Thanks for all the advice, everyone. It's nice to know when you get stuck, you're not alone.
Re-installing SP3 seems to have done the trick.
With it, I was able to pose and delete figures again.
I even went back to the "problem" file and deleted the problem floor figure. Hopefully, that's the end of that.
And all of your advice has been very helpful, and will continue to be in the future.
I appreciate it.
If helped out here, and you want to send me a private message, I'll send you a code to get one of my e-books for free.
Again, thanks.
Hopefully, it's smooth rendering from here on out.

Thread: P7 crashes when I try to delete figure or object | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The problem seemed to start when I used a PoserPro floor figure, which the creator of that set later told me I shouldn't have used with P7.
It started looking for a bump map it couldn't find, and that jammed the machine first -- but stopped when I put a fake bump map in the path it wanted (which was just the texture file).
But by then, I'd crashed it a few times, and apparently the damage was done.
It started with me just not being able to kill that floor figure, but has since spread to any figure. I can't even "switch out" figures -- say Michael for Vicki -- at this point.
V4 is in the same path as the poser files -- on the raw C: drive. No problems with Vicki so far.
Sounds like I should try just reinstalling the SP next.
The question is, should I move my current runtime before I try it?
