Mercytoo has a lot of good pointers.
For me and most of my day-to-day work, i use illustrator to build all my 2D assets than assemble and animate them in Flash. Since much of my work is web based, this works best for me.
i'd love to branch out into 3D animation but the company is happy with my 2D output and i'm too poor to dish out the up-front cash

are the elements you've listed in 3D?
what i mean are they pieces being added to a render?
or are they simple shapes without transparency (solid color)?
quickest way to help you is if you could post some of the parts in this thread so we can see what you mean to do...

did you try dreamer101 suggestion? You can also do a quickmask to "hide" the pixel you don't want in the first image and this'll let the underlying image show through...

yo, yoyo :)
did you find a solution?
if you still need some help let me know...

Thread: image fade to transparent? | Forum: Photoshop
"history" (no pun intended) has shown us that non-destructive methods (masking) tend to allow a "change-of-heart" in the future rather than a "start-over-with-a-fresh-copy" if you find you wanted something back.

in the old days you could convert your movie into a "filmstrip" (.FLM) and open that in PS to do stuff like "rotoscoping" but you had to be careful not to change the "image size" or the "canvas size" or you couldn't save it back as a flimstrip anymore.
now you can do what dreamer101 say's and do it in ImageReady without having to make it into a flimstrip format first.
dre, your question brings back memories... maybe i'll dig up some old movs and play in PS a bit!!
hope you've found your answer,

Thread: Photo Correction Challenge? | Forum: Photoshop
Tom, i think it's a great idea. never been one to be afraid of a little challenge. since we are all at different skill levels and use PS for different reasons, i think something like this would benefit everyone.
as for guidelines,
1.) i think a two week period to work on the challenge should give everyone (especially those of us that are swamped and have a tough time squeezing everything we need to do in) enough time. i'm worried if it's any less, most will not be able to devote enough time to really do it justice.
2.) for the winner (or anyone willing to impart) it would be great if they would share the secret (how they did it...) this way we all learn something.
3.) all source material MUST be the original works of the challenge host (i mean no posting "royalty-free" photos off some disc, or something downloaded off the web...)
4.) source files must be of sufficient resolution to complete the challenge and need to be hosted in a locale accessible to all members wishing to participate in the challenges.
5.) i reserve the right to adjust the "guidelines" as needed (cause i ALWAYS forget something critical ;))
i'll make this post "sticky" so you don't have to hunt around for it as time passes.
P.S. sorry for the lag in repling, my system (hard drive) went up in smoke, taking three years worth of artwork with it... still "kludgeing" together a method to connecting online... should be squared away soon.

A good place to start to get to know the program is by experimenting and reading through the manual. When experimenting, hit the F1 key to get the online help.

Thread: Aged magazine cover | Forum: Photoshop
One method would be to get a source of old paper (hi-rez if possible) and use that as a base to overlay your artwork on top of.
Do a search on old paper in a free photo site like MORGUE FILE. Hopefully, you should be able to find something.

Thread: Photoshop running amok | Forum: Photoshop
if you want to save the "uninstall/reinstall" as the last possible option try tossing out the PREFs (preference) file. usually when PS starts to act "wonky" tossing the file and forcing PS to rebuild a new one fixes up most probs. The files sometimes gets corrupted and can cause a number of unpleasentries!
you can delete it "on the fly" by holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift (MAC: Cmd+Opt+Shift) right after you launch PS. you should be prompted to "delete", let go of the keys and agree. it'll be rebuilt and the factory setting restored.
hope it helps

Thread: Where to find fonts for Photoshop | Forum: Photoshop
What's your OS?? TrueType fonts should work for PCs, Mac may use a different type (like "OpenFace").
PS shouldn't have any problems seeing fonts that are installed into your font folder. PS needs to be closed when installing (dropping them into your font folder) the fonts because PS loads the FONT TABLE on launch and any fonts added after the table loads won't apperear until you restart the app.
