I load Poser content in Carrara, then model everything around it, including the landscapes/vegetation. Every once in a while I might use Hexagon to model, but frankly Carrara can handle almost everything Hexagon can, and I don't have to keep switching programs for each little thing in the work flow.

Someone on the Poser forum identified the problem. Poser's general preferences can be set for external binary morphs. If a figure is saved to the library with that setting, then Carrara 8.5 Beta won't recognize the morphs in the parameters tab. If the Poser's general preferences are changed so that the box for external binary morph targets is unchecked, then the morphs will work in Carrara.
Thanks for your quick reply.

Thanks. Unchecking the external binary morphs in the general preferences of Poser fixed it in Carrara. I am using C 8.5 beta. This forum is incredibly helpful, as always.

Thanks - looks like that is probably it. And, I will look into getting the book. Odd, the kindle version is more expensive than a paper copy (on Amazon).

Bummer. It just seemed like the weightmap system in poser was getting closer to Carrara's.

SmithMicro just told me that PoserPro that is sold through contentparadise allows hybrid (either/both?) PC and Mac download on digital (not just physical), and that if I got extended download, then the iniital download could have been PC and the later download could be Mac in a situation like mine. The key is extended download. Otherwise, it is only for 30 days.

If I can't re-use my digital purchase of Poser 9, I note that the PoserPro sale through Renderosity is cheaper than the sidegrade price on the SmithMicro website. I could take advantage of the sale and move to PoserPro at the same time.

Sorry for yelling, but it really is t-r-e-m-e-n-d-o-u-s, if I don't have to reconstruct all the Mac versions when migrating.

It could be that what Bagginsbill describes is the end of the story, which would be TREMENDOUS.
When I purchased Poser, there was a PC version and a Mac version. There were PC and Mac versions of content. I was just assuming that if I bought a Mac, that my PC versions of the Poser software and content would not always run, or if it did, that there would be extra hiccups unless I got the Mac versions.
If that is wrong, hooray! One less thing to worry about.
Thread: How do I create conforming clothing for poser figures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Also, it is nice to remember that you don't always need to create a new 3d mesh to expand your figure's wardrobe. You can use textures in the materials room to make one mesh look different. You can use an image editor like photoshop to create a transparency map that makes parts of an existing clothing item "invisible." For example, most figures have a bodysuit. You can edit the texture of the bodysuit to make it look like a pair of shorts and a tank top. You already have quite a bit of flexibility if your figure has a bodysuit and an ankle length dress.

found the problem/solution. I had used the face room, which had changed the reference figure.
Q/A 6 from PhilC's website.
"Sometimes when customizing a figure Poser or the user will alter the name of the OBJ file that the figure references. For example this can occur if the Poser face room is used. The solution is to either use the out of the box figure or edit your custom figure to reference the original OBJ file."
Thread: Wardrobe Wizard Clothing Morphs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I am having a related problem so I didn't want to start a new thread. I have had success using wardrobe wizard in the past, so I think I am just missing a step. I use P9 SR3, not pro.
I loaded the P8 Alyson figure (not the weightmapped version). I used the fullbody and other morph dials to create a character. After I had the figure the way I wanted it, I spawned a morph for each element and named each morph Adelle. For the figure, I created a full body morph called Adelle. I renamed the figure Adelle in the properties tab of the body. I zeroed the elements, then set the full body morph named Adelle to 1. It looked fine, and I saved the figure to a character library in a runtime I created called sketch.
Attempt 1. I closed out and started a new file. I loaded my P8 Alyson "Adelle" character in the scene. I started wardrobe wizard. I found the P8 leotard in the P9 runtime, and set the destination to my sketch runtime. I checked the box for pants, etc clothing type. I made sure the force reanalysis, keep existing morphs, and add full body morph boxes were checked. I set it to convert from P8Alyson to P8Alyson. Wardrobe wizard generated the new file in my sketch runtime but did not include my "Adelle" morphs.
Attempt 2. I tried using the wardrobe wizard "load" utility and navigated to my "Adelle" cr2 file in my Sketch runtime. Wardrobe wizard said that "Adelle" is not a supported figure type, even though the Adelle character is just a morphed P8 Alyson. Similar results when trying to use the WW analyze full body morphs utility.
Where am I going wrong?
