Your CPU speed/renderine time chart is incorrect. An Athlon 2800+ is not a 2.8Ghz CPU, it is 2.08Ghz. Same goes for all the other Athlon xxxx CPUs in the chart. The fastest Athlon on the market right now is the 2.2Ghz AthlonXP 3200. So when you bump the dot back to the speed range it is supposed to be in you will see it basically takes a 2.8-3Ghz P4 to equal or slightly better a 2.08Ghz AthlonXP. Another correction, in regards to layingbacks analysis, the number rating on the Athlons are not how they relate to the P4. They are how they relate to the old model of Athlons. Basically, an older Athlon would have to run at 3.2Ghz to equal the performance of the 2.2Ghz Athlon XP 3200+. Its confusing, but it gets worse. The new Athlon64 coming out this month will be running at 1.8Ghz, but will be called the Athlon64 3200. It is 400Mhz slower than the current Athlon 3200+, but the better performer of the two. This isnt the first time they did that however. The AthlonXP 2800+ is a 2.083GHz processor, but the Athlon 2700 is a 2.17Ghz processor! As far as value goes, the AthlonXP 2800+ costs about the same as the P4 2.4Ghz, and is the better performer (in many other applications as well).

Someone said they tried the same scene with transmapped hair, but I didnt see any test file with transmapped hair.

It is also obvious from the results most people here have systems that are running a lot slower than they should be. So a true comparison is damn near impossible. What would be great is if someone with multiple systems could do a comparison in a more controlled environment.

You cant average with so many different speeds. 7 of the P4s are 2.53Ghz and higher. Only one AMD system is 2.5Ghz, and that is overclocked (there are no Athlon 2.5Ghz CPUs yet, the highest is the 3200+ @2.2Ghz). Something like this is a little more valid: AMD 2800+ (2.083Ghz) 1 Gb RAM Win 2000 Pro 192 seconds AMD 2.1Ghz 1 Gb RAM Win 2K 193 seconds P4 2.8Ghz 1 Gb RAM Win 2K 194 seconds. From those results, it looks like the AMD CPU is a good bit better than the P4 in Poser. It's 700-800Mhz slower yet still on top.

The TIM on the heatsink is all you really need for any CPU. People just scrape it off and use a third party thermal compound (ie: Arctic Silver) because the TIM is usually on there kinda thick and also using a different compound sometimes helps with getting better overclock results.

Sigh, the lack of knowledge on these things is exactly what Intel targets in marketing and what forces AMD to use a rating system. "-1GB RBus Memory with 1600 GHz dual channel (RBus is damn fast than DDR but expensive) will upgrade to 2GB for faster 3200 GHz and more room for XFrog plants." There is no such thing as 1600Ghz Dual Channel RDRAM (or 1.6Ghz for that matter) and you cant "upgrade" to 3200Ghz. The highest RDRAM out is PC1066, and you will never be able to upgrade yours to any higher because your chipset will never support anything higher (I wonder if your current chipset even really uses PC1066). Sticking faster RAM in a chipset that cant run the bus speed needed to utilize it is like putting a ferrari body on a Yugo. Anyway, what matters with RAM is the bandwidth throughput it can achieve. Without calculating overhead, latency, etc, a Dual Channel PC1066 RDRAM chipset can offer slightly over 4GB memory bandwidth. Intel's new Dual Channel DDR400 chipset is at 6.4GB. Not only that, but 2 512MB sticks of PC3200 DDR will cost you less than half the price of the same amount of RDRAM. This is why Intel switched to DDR. "DDR is very cheap just like AMD and u get ripped off for some area inside processor that are extrmely slow." There's a reason a 2.2Ghz Athlon performs as fast as a 3Ghz P4 in just about everything.. That reason is because AMD's CPUs are the exact opposite of what you just said. :) Both companies make excellent chips.

"This kind of warez stuff is what made CL release a buggy app too soon to attempt to make money and stay alive." That would be one truely sad excuse to cover up mistakes if it were true, but CL's releasing of a buggy app has nothing to do with software piracy and I dont think they ever claimed it did. The problem with saying stuff like that boils down to one simple issue: If someone downloads an application they never intended to buy, how did the company lose money? They werent going to get a sale and they still didnt. Is it still "stealing"? Of course. If that software is normally sold and you got it free from an illegal source, you stole it, but the company did not lose a dime because of it.

Well, that issue of Playboy came out in 1994 and she was only 24. 9-10 years can change a person quite a bit. However, Dagon's pic makes her look more like 53 than 33.

There is no way that is dynamic hair. P5 hair is strand based, that block on her head sure doesnt look like any strands to me. Looks like a helmet with a hair texture on it.
