Quote - Oh come on...many people don't care if the comments are meaningful as long as they are complimentary and they get enough to put them in the Hot...er...Art Charts.
LOL I want comments on my work, not for where you can find it :P

And Bar-code, I do realize that not everyone here speaks English but if someone has enough knowledge of the language to type out an understandable 'notes' section on one of their uploaded images, they should certainly be able to do the same with comments.

Quote - Which leads one to the conclusion that people putting out crap images in a high-end program, unless they are using them as practice to get better, are dumb. I say that because why are they putting all that time in to make crap when the same quality of crap can be produced far easier?
I had thought we were talking about the 'finished product' and artwork, not modeling and building.
Imagine this:
You have never before used any CG program and have never seen this topic before. You then go to browse galleries (not just here) to see if there's anything you like. What kinds of images would you be drawn to?
---That is the mind of your average retail customer. That, I believe, is the question being asked.

Quote - Well, in trying to understand what you are getting at better, I looked at your gallery, and I'm making a guess that you may be talking about a comment to your image titled 'Anticipation'. In that image, even though there is more then one character, the girl in the character ddoes give a feeling of her being the main character.
Looking at it from that perspective, I could easily see how someone, instead of saying, wow, the girl in the image is really beautifully done and stands out from the rest (focusing on that part of the image), they blurted out "She is very beautiful", thinking it was self evident that she was thinking about the girl in the image.
It doesn't strike me as a language issue, but more of the issue that the poerson commenting assumed that they expressed what they were getting at clearly enough, but in reality perhaps not.
Happens all the time... LOL, my honey is really bad at it, and tends to substitute one word, like "Store" for meaning to say, we need to go to the store this coming weekend, and gets all defensive when I tell him I don't have time before the weekend starts, and tells me, that's what I asked you, store? This weekend!
I understand what you're saying and completely agree, if that were the case. Look at it this way, go through the 'What's New' Gallery and look at the, oh say, 20 or so images uploaded around the same time as mine. Notice that the -exact- same comment was posted on those images as well. That is the only reason it bothers me.

OK what I'm seeing is this:
You're looking for a massive amount of personal opinion on something that everyone is going to feel differently about.
I, personally, would prefer to see a nicely composed, well thought-out and/or high-quality detailed in postwork Poser render than some crap, quickie, slapped together image rendered in what would be considered a 'better' program.
Its about art people... Not how much money you spent to make it. I love Thomas Kinkade, I think his work is incredible. I don't care if he got his paint and brushes online from some exotic over-seas exclusive dealer or if he bought them for $2.99 at Hobby Lobby. Its about the final product and if it looks good.
So yes, I would rather see a beautiful render come out of Poser then something very poorly done from something 'better'

Quote - > Quote - I don't want to come off as arrogant... But since the comments I'm referring to are very widely spread across this site, don't you think that maybe they would know the difference between 'she' and 'they' by now, english speaking/writing or no.
Maybe the person does, but was absent minded when writing a comment.
It's not that easy coming up with something different and meaningful to say every time.
For some people, it's difficult to do that even some of the times.
Also, some people's appreciation can fall short of the value of the piece, while they are still being as appreciative as they possibly can.Like me appreciating Van Gogs, I love it, but I could never appreciate it properly, neither can most public at large with no significant art training.
[my glass is always half full, but I have a knack for tripping over it and spilling it's contents]
I'm not asking for meaningful, I understand that its just a generic comment to get people to view their gallery. Its just that with that comment, its like they didn't even look at the image. Even absentminded people would delete the 'she' part.
Sighs
Now I'm getting flamed for trying to make people understand. Ah well...

Maybe I'm afraid of change or something but I really like using Poser and since I only use it to make images for fun (just for my personal collection and some friends who like them) I just don't have a need for using any other programs.
I guess its similar to how I actually do have Photoshop but continue to use PaintShop Pro because its something I know and am comfortable with. And for 3d modeling, I still design and build in Spazz3D then export VRML to import to Flux (which of course I could model in there but don't know the program so don't use it) then to export again as 3ds.
I think its all a matter of preference. If you plan on making your artwork a business or would like it shown worldwide then it would be a good idea to use the other/better programs. But if (like me) you just do it for the fun of making something, then stick with what you know "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" right?
Thread: Mysterious Ink Stains! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Something I've noticed is when you add a bump to any texture on anything that has folds/creases/indentations and then render it on the default render settings, you get that crazy black stain all across the area (its especially bad when ambient occlusion is on as well). What I usually do is set the bump down to anywhere between .001 and .005 and then customize my render settings (Irridance caching: between 70 and 90 - Pixel samples: 8 to 10 - Min. shading rate: 0) Thats my standard render setting.
Hope this helps a bit :)

Quote - "Even if you speak a different language, you should know the difference between 'she' and 'they'" SHOULD ????? Nope, nothing arrogant in that statement at all. So in other words all you are say'in now is.....that any and all members (from quite a variety of countries) of this (USA based) site should have complete command of both reading and writing english ???
I don't want to come off as arrogant... But since the comments I'm referring to are very widely spread across this site, don't you think that maybe they would know the difference between 'she' and 'they' by now, english speaking/writing or no.
Side note: I don't care about spelling... LOL I know mine sucks :P And I personally love to have comments posted in other languages. It means the image needed enough description that english just wouldn't do it. Go ahead, throw your best at me, Babel Fish is my best friend :)

Yeah, after I make any kinds of major detail changes... I always save the file then shut down poser for a good half hour or so (killing any background tasks) and then re-open to render. This lets me get the fastest renders and protects from serious crashes (which used to happen alot)
Thread: Scrap Ratings System!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK I have to agree with this. Based on comments left on an image (mine or others) you would think considering how much certain people 'love' the image that they would rate it 5 stars but when you get to the 15-20 rating mark someone comes along and slaps you with a 1 star rating and completely kills your average. I mean, its almost like there are people who specifically go around low-rating people who might stand a chance at getting in the top-rated images because they aren't part of 'the clique' or some such thing.
I feel your pain rosepab...

Quote - 4 choices : 1-Join the Critique Club or 2-Just be vaguely pleased people bothered to comment at all ...even when its not precisely what you would have liked to hear or 3-Accept the existance of the "Comment Collectors" ie 'I leave you one and then you leave me one' and just feel superiour when you see suspect CC comments on your images and don't play the game or 4- Turn off the option for people to comment on your stuff . period Personally I'm just pleased when I get comments, regardless of type. I don't ever leave critical comments myself as there are a lot of thin skins around here .
Just would like to point out that:
What I'm trying to say is simple: When someone says, "She is very beautiful" I'm not offended. Its when I have more than one figure in an image or there are several notes talking about other parts of the image that "She is very beautiful" just doesn't work. Even if you speak a different language, you should know the difference between 'she' and 'they'
All I'm sayin...
