I just used an array to make a tire tread. Just make the basic pattern then array it and simple deform modifier to bend it. Particles are good for some thing like sprinkles on donuts or rocks along a dry creek bed. You can use weight painting and vertex groups to paint the particles in.

Very cool. 
As was mentioned a little contrast could make this scene even better. Google baroque art for some great examples of dramatic lighting. By the way did you model any of the stuff?

Well you could use Blender to generate the particle effect and export that to Poser.

You can assign the object to a vertex group. After you join them use this group on the particle sim tab. Set the density to this group. When joining select the object not in the particle system 1st to join. It seems to affect how it gets added to the particle sim.

You could also use Blender's sculpting mode or Sculptris to sculpt the water around the boat. As long as your plain is a dense enough mesh. You could even add wake other cool watery details :)

It's a plain intersecting a 3d model. Not a water or particle simulation. You can model an indention in the water plain pretty easily. You will have to do that in a modeler like wings or Blender.

Thanks HMoron. You are right it doesn't have everything Photoshop or Gimp has. It is a good way to start things off. Krita has a symmetry function that you can use like this as well.

Thanks guys. I was shocked at how easy the tiling was to do. I know the texture is not that great. It's kind like Impressionist art, scale it down some and it looks much better. I think it's very cool how you can create a few simple elements and use the power of the Software/Computer to multiply your effort.
