Thread: Just want to make sure you all see this | Forum: Bryce
Yes, madmax, "only different." >;^)
The weirdest thing about MojoWorld is that it is literally a window on a parallel universe. Just as "2" is presumably the answer to the computation "1+1" for all time and space in this universe, all these MojoWorld planets and the images we make of them, already exist in the timeless truth of mathematical logic.
So, just as you don't "create" 2 as the answer to the computation 1+1, we don't "create" these worlds--we discover them.
(I told you it requires that we Think Different!)
MojoWorld collapses the distinction between creation and exploration. Weird, eh?
But as bikermouse points out, it's more the artist than the tool--so it takes a very intelligent, creative search process to discover the cool worlds and the beautiful scenes on them.

Thread: Ya might want to get in on this.. | Forum: Vue
If you like Vue, you'll love MojoWorld. The two programs are nicely complimentary. MojoWorld can create amazing fractal terrains--even entire planets--that you can export for use in Vue. Check it out! -Mo
Thread: Winn MojoWorld!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Attached Link: Siren of MojoWorld
Here are some Poser/MojoWorld renderings I've done, just to illustrate what's possible. (And I'm a total Poser novice.)http://www.kenmusgrave.com/MojoWorld/Siren05.jpg
A QTVR cubic panorama of the same scene:

WARNING: this one is about 9 MB in size--but very detailed:

I'm certain that experienced Poser users can do much better than this! Personally, I think of MojoWorlds as simply providing the global context for your Poser (and other) scenes.

Erlik: MojoWorld is as much about exploration of existing worlds as creating new ones. I suggest you go in and play Ansel Adams with the free Transporter. There's plenty of beauty to be found--that no one, including the artist who created the planet, has seen before! They are the size of Earth, by default, and that gives us a lot to explore. MojoWorld is really different. It's a window on a parallel universe. That universe exists (in the maths); we're now free to seek out and record the beauty to be found there. But it does require that you "think different." ;-) -Mo

Thread: Microsoft to abandon Corel | Forum: Bryce
Max, that's exactly the problem: seamless (and realistic) transition between different representations at different scales. From space, it's a surface material property. At intermediate ranges, it's a volumetric material. Close up, it's geometry. Maintaining consistent statistical properties across these different representations represents a significant mathematical challenge (to understate it in the manner typical to academics). "I guess we need to hire tjohn." >;^) -Mo
Thread: Microsoft to abandon Corel | Forum: Bryce
Vegetation on a global scale is ridiculously difficult. So much so that it's never been addressed even in the computer graphics research literature. But my academic colleagues are working on it. We'll get it in there, but not real soon now... -Mo
Thread: Corel Corporation! | Forum: Bryce
Richard, I certainly hope you succeed! Just imagine if Bryce could do all it does now, and have MojoWorld's textures, terrains, planets and pixel-level geometry--that would ROCK! Let's make it happen!!! -Mo

Thread: Corel Corporation! | Forum: Bryce
My view of Bryce is "great interface on top of a flawed engine." So, if we were to land it, we'd keep the UI pretty much intact, and hope our extensions of it didn't mess with the user experience. "Don't mess with success," I figure. We'd keep MojoWorld separate, probably, with it's own more-at-professional UI. -Mo

Really? That is so cool! I presume this means "best selling 3D graphics software." And I always thought a doctoral dissertation was supposed to be useless. :-) -Mo
Thread: Corel Corporation! | Forum: Bryce
Thomas, MojoWorld has an open architecture, for exactly that reason. And Bryce 6, without any driving vision or new technology behind it, is likely to be incremental at best. (We, of course, can really open it up and make it over!) Cat, I think the amount of money needed--$0.5M to $1M--isn't going to be raised informally. Not for a piece of software that people only paid about $200 for, anyway! But we're working on raising the $$. "Wish us luck." -Mo
Thread: Microsoft to abandon Corel | Forum: Bryce
This is all very interesting. We're going to pester Corel again (we're being rather incessant about it) and see what gives. Meanwhile, we're looking for angel or venture funding to make a more generous offer for Bryce. It will be very hard to sell venture capital on investing in Bryce, as "prosumer" software sales have been way down for some years now, and not the kind of potential money-maker that VCs are looking for, as a rule. The fact that MojoWorld sales have been steadily growing is a smashing success, in the current market. (Witness Curious Labs, for instance.) -Mo PS- Stpen Ray: now is a great time to invest in Pandromeda. >;^)
Thread: Corel Corporation! | Forum: Bryce
HA HA HA!!! At least they're not making pictures like that of OUR management! (Yet.) Now Microsoft has dumped their Corel stock at a 90% loss. Ouch! Corel will be de-listed from the NASDAQ before too long, as they've been trading at under a dollar for some time now... -Mo Monkey Business PS- The numberchrunchers love only money. We went through that at MetaCreations.
