Thread: Luxus Luxrender plugin for Carrara alpha release out | Forum: Carrara
1 - The first image is only a load and render test, just some adjustments in Luxrender at all.
2 - Second one is using some Luxrender shaders already with textures (not all scene, Vic dont have any change in shaders yet)
3 - Third is the same scene with an Infinite light (using HDRI image).
Look very very good so far, the only strange thing is those sparkles with HDRI, but I think is something with Luxrender that I need to understand. Note that the second and third images are the same I just turned off the Infinite light to get a image without have to restart everything again.
Some things that I really didnt know is about how Bump maps work in Lux, I see the Bump map slot but no slider to set the deeph. The same thing for Alpha channel, but I think is something that will be implemented later.
Now is time to people start to share theyr Lux shaders so we can studie more ways to work with this new feature!

I have issues with objects with multiple shade domains. like Victoria... all render as a white material. Any idea??
JT411 this look amazing! Need to setup more in light inside Luxrender to get better results yet.

Thread: photorealism, main components? | Forum: Carrara
Hahaha, the problem is how everyone see those things. Ones use a lot of highlight that create a wet or plastic look. The candle effect is due to SSS effect. In Carrara we have a big problçem with it, because we cant control it using image maps, only colors, so sometimes we get the wax look based in the position of the maisn light source.
The real problem with realism is that you need to learn how to control the light as in real life. For me the good setup is using a spot source and a HDRI image, but in some occasions you will need more spots to get the right effect.
The second problem are shaders: you need a very good texture and setup your highlights based in your light setup.
Last: USE postwork! USE render layers! They are your best friends in CG world! Learning to use render layers can save you a lot of time and you can almost simulate SSS without rendering it!

Its the way to divide a surface of an object as many shaders you need. In Lightwave is called surface. Others softwares use other nomemclatures.
Imagine a beach ball with many colors: you can have a shade domain for every color. In truth its a group of polygins that will receive a shader, so you can have a shade doamin with glass shader, other with a wood shader and so on.
This is somthing that you need to know to model and shade things in Carrara or any other software:

Thread: Normal maps in Carrara | Forum: Carrara
Hi, I use Deeper to render NormalMaps in Carrara 7.2 or less, only Carrara 8 have normal maps as default.
I use ShaderMap Pro to generate my normal maps:
http://shadermap.com
Filterforge also generate NM for almost all theyr presets and its amazing.
Smart Normal also can generate NM for free:

To create normal maps from your geometries theres also Smak, that is free now:
