Valandar - I know, but that causes some minor annoyances - his head turning almost invisible in the standard Poser display mode, and there being a hole in the face that you'll have to cover up somehow. Nothing that can't also be worked around (cartoon mode w/lines, and more postwork) but it would be nice if the monocle was a seperate bit of geometry that could be turned on or off, or a smart prop. It's probably too late to do anything about it now anyway, but I thought I'd mention it.

About the Drone Trooper - will it be possible to make the aiming reticle (the monocle in front of the eyeslit) invisible? It would add a little to the versatility of the character. It's a nice looking character. As far as the text references in the texture, would it be possible to just edit them out of the texture for that project? Most of the copyright restrictions on textures are meant to protect the origionator if you try to sell the texture. I don't think using a modified texture in a render is a violation, as long as you don't try to sell or give away the new texture. It would be a bit of extra work, but probably not much worse than the needed postwork on some of the older human figures. You could replace the text with something more appropriate to the client, or just clone/stamp over it with the paint color from somewhere else in the texture.
Thread: Poser 5 problems. Aarrgh. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As I said, I installed Poser 5, then the SR1 figure patch, SR1 full patch, and the current SR2 patch, in that order. My computer is a Pentium 4 2GHz, with 1024 MB ram, and two 60 GB hard drives. Video card is a an Nvidia Geforce 4, with 256 MB video ram. In addition to the total inability to get most of the camera controls to work, I've also noted that P5 takes about five times as long to load as Poser Pro. (I've tested the other cameras, ie, Top Down, Side, Face, Hand, etc, and none of them work. It also happens to any of the figures I've tried to load, including props, and whether or not I open the Hair, Cloth, or Grouping windows.) Since it appears that whatever is happening is due to some strange interaction with my particular machine, and that I'll end up having to do some odd thing to "work around" it, I've decided to avoid the problem completely. I've uninstalled it, and it will stay that way until Curious Labs have released a few more patches. I have better things to do with my time than figure out how to work around serious bugs in basic functions, especially since the only part of P5 that really interested me was the dynamic hair and cloth. I've already got Bryce and Vue, so I don't need the Firefly renderer. Thanks to everyone, and sorry for the inconvenience. Katoran

The main camera is the only one I'd tried. The problem is with any of the panning controls except the rotate trackball. (Anything the is supposed to move the camera up, down, side to side or forward and back, doesn't.) I'm running Windows 98SE. I have not tried turning dials or entering values, and it wouldn't matter if those do still work. That's not how I normally move the camera - if the standard camera controls don't work, I'll uninstall and toss Poser 5 back in my "crummy software I wish I hadn't bought" shoebox with Impossible Creatures and Master of Orion 3. Thread: Is the Photoshop WOW! series any good? | Forum: Photoshop
Well, texturing and post-work seemed like a good place to start. I'm not quite sure what my long-term goal is at the moment. Short term, I'd just like to have fun while working with the programs. Since I'm still learning, I'd like the process to be fun. After all, if it starts becomming too much like work, I'll probably start finding other things I'd rather work on. Like watching my hard-disk defragment. :) Thank you for the information. I'll check these books the next time I'm at the bookstore. Katoran

Thread: How do I un-.bum a bumpmap? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you for the confirmation. Aside from the disk-space savings, I wanted to be able to modify some of the bumpmaps for specific uses, such as adding a scar to a specific character. However, I suppose it's better practice to make my own from scratch in those cases, since I need to learn to use Painter better anyway. (Not to mention less likely to violate copyright laws.) Thanks again. - Katoran
