On another note, i have heard back from thinkcooper following a request I made, SM will be putting together an animation webinar in a few months, to help users get the best out of Poser animation. quote...........
"It's an awesome idea. I'll get one set-up. For the time being we have a tight calendar for webinars and my video expert is on a side project. It will likely take a couple of months before we can fit an animation webinar in.
Just for reference, there is a collection of free tutorial videos that do cover some aspects of animation on our website. In the advanced section there are several that feature animation technique.

Also, there's a book called "Secrets of Poser Experts" that has a section written by Gabe Sabloff who created "the Drop", less about the fine points of keyframing and more about the cinematogrphy angle, but well worth checking out. We just added it to Content Paradise system, but you might be able to find it at a local book store if you want to check it out."

G rated souds like a plan. I suggested 30 seconds to allow for camera angle changes, and the plot. being realistic for first time animators it is a long time but i think rendered at reasonably low settings it should produce some interesting results...

If anyone is up for a small challenge that will highlight the different ways people approach animation, here's an idea.
I reckon pretty much everyone has V4 in their runtime. Create a 30 second animation of V4 interacting with a primitive prop from the props library. Add your fx p/w etc and let's see what comes out of the mix. No prizes, but we can discuss how "a" viewed better than "b" etc.
Just n idea

I think every aspect can be covered Dale B, but as the sticky is about Poser animation rather than animation per se, we should stick to workflow that Poser users can do. What I would like to see happen is people post progress movies of their projects, maybe with a brief explanation of what render settings they used, how they put it together, etc etc etc that's my 2 pence worth anyway

Once again tyvm Basicwiz, I've messaged thinkcooper following yesterdays post and asked if it is possible for the animators at SM or thier freinds to create a webinar or similar to show folks how to get the best from Poser animation. Whether it will happen remains to be seen given the time restraints and resources involved, in the meeanwhile if anyone has any good links to Poser animation tutorials, tips tricks and hints, this would be a good place to post them............
Thread: Should there be a Poser Animation only section? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
thanks basicwiz, my whole premise for this was following thinkcoopers link yesterday, it seemed like everytime a discussion on poser animation started in the general forum, it evolved into a catfight with "poser is cr*p" as a tag line, I'd like to see people post links to poser only created animation as well and help each other in understanding how to get the best from the half of the app they don't use...........................Saxon out

I'm trying to make my point as eloquently and precisely as I can, i agree markschum, many questions can be answered by reading the manual, many can be answered in the general pick and mix forum of Poser, many will be answered wrong with the best intentions. My personal feeling is that Poser animation , the subject of many a heated debate, as recently as yesterday, needs pulling out of the poor cousin closet, giving a decent suit and being put on show. That is my reasoning in its entirety. Some will agree, some will disagree and many won't even read this thread because it contains the words "Poser Animation"

My point is that the reason that current animation forum is so poorly subscribed to, is that it is too general. Try posting all the Poser forum render questions or material questions in a forum called "Materials" or "Renders" and see what happens. Sometimes being specialised has its advantages, and I'm not asking for a whole Poser Animation only forum, maybe a sticky purely for animation, and I'd still like to see a Youtube or Vimeo showcase page for Poser.
But I bow to the community, it's not in my power to create such a thing, if it was I would have done it already lol.............
I hear you Vilters, but at least they have the opportunity to post specifics.........I would also guess that most Hexagon related questions are asked in the Daz forums, and the Blender ones at Blender org. Maybe I should be speaking to Smith Micro or RDNA?

to be fair markschum and this is just an observation, i find it slightly incredulous to believe that the average poser user who doesnt do animation could answer many questions apart from a few basic ones. Reading through the forum threads, even experienced users express suprise when a tip on using the keyframe editor appears. lets face it, there are probably fewer threads on animation in the forums than pretty much anything else, and when questions are asked, invariably the "get a higher end app" answer apppears pretty quickly. Are you suggesting I move all my animation questions over to an adult site like renderotica?
Basic keyframe animation will cover general animation and keyframing techniques, what I want is somewhere that users can ask questions without being made to feel stupid, or being advised to read the manual a hundred times.
In the ten years I've been visiting these forums there have been a few gems of wisdom that are lost in the multitude of non animation related threads, and there always seems to be an undercurrent of "SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, he mentioned Poser animation" as if it's something to be shyed away from.
That I think is the reason for as Ockham put it, "Nobody goes there", not asking for Nirvana here, but just a page where threads specifically related to POSER animation aren't lost amongst Daz, Carrara, Iclone, 3dMax, Blender, C4D, et al.

maybe make it a sub-thread of the main poser forum then?, it is after all 50% of Poser....
"Professional 3d Figure design and animation", it says on the cover ;)
Thread: "Poser can't do animation" said no-one at Rooster Teeth | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Having "played" with animation for years now, I thought with some degree of success but in all honesty everything I have created was pretty amateurish, in some respects things are getting easier, rhapsody motoblocks, import of animate sequences, bvh. Well that's the animation taken care of lol, next comes the hardest part, camera set ups, length of clip, character and prop interaction, dialogue, voice creation, lighting, compositing, oh yes and one small almost insignificant bit......storyline...........no wonder so many people struggle. I have found the animation forum here to be helpful, but as so many of its contributors use other programs to create their anims, might I suggest that we have a forum dedicated to Poser animation. Just an idea.....and I still think we should have an animation gallery hosted on youtube or vimeo or similar..........just my thoughts.
