LOL ok!ย you are a wealth of information.ย I'm trying to do this tutorial right now so I can get a face going that I can play with.

so far I've done the UVmap 3 times with no success. all I get is a blob and nothing that resembles the illustrations in the tut. lolย but I'm trying again.
I was really excited about the various rooms because I thought, "hey now I can do something really cool" but honestly they frighten me lol because I don't have the faintest clue how to use them.
As soon as I get a face going I'll show you where i"m at because after I get a face I'm going to work with those light tuts you posted.
thanks again Acadia I really appreciate your help with this stuff.ย be back in a bit when I get a face...IF I get a face. lol

I have poser 4 pro pack and poser 7.ย I just got poser 7 and I've only checked it out. I haven't really used it yet. I've only played around with the buttons and things so I can get a feel for the new things it has.ย
the material, face, cloth and hair rooms look very intimidating.ย ย I figured I'd try some tutorials for poser 7 since I'm not too comfortable with it.
I think what I'm going to do is start a project and go through the lighting tutorials Acadia posted, then check out bagginsbill (any relation to froto? lol)ย ย so wish me luck.ย I'll post my progress in the forum Acadia suggested and hopefully I can learn to render some nice pics like some of hte ones here.ย
I love what programs like bryce and poser can do for someone like me; I'm a writer not an artist and most days I'm lucky to be able to draw stick figures.ย I always wished I could paint and draw and now thanks to programs like these I can.ย

thank you very much Acadia. I do use photoshop. usually I just pose my character in poser and do the rest in photoshop mainly because after I pose my character I get lost on how to do anything else. Even though I've been using photoshop for a long time I"ve never used it to create realistic looking images. most of what I've done has been to create cartoon style images. At least I'm familiar with photosohp I guess. lol I will get started on the tutorials you posted and I'll definitely take you up on your suggestion for asking for feedback in that other forum. thanks again for your words of wisdom. thank you Hyria! :)
I"m pretty much a newbie myself. what I did was download the ferris wheel model for the webing. It doesn't have much webbing but it sufficed for this project. I ungrouped the objects and deleted everything except for the spokes of the ferris wheel.
I created the torus in bryce and edited to be the ring.
I used the chain thang model for the center piece and merged 2 of them together then ungrouped them and deleted sections I didn't want.
I used the fire texture on any old terrain in bryce and zoomed in on it for the background.
I created all these as seperate pieces and then opened up photoshop. I started with the background image and then placed the ring and chain thang as layers on top of the background. I selected a small circle in the background and deleted that part from the chain thang. Then I added the skull that I already had stored on my computer and moved it to a layer behind the chain thang so that it was coming through the center. I used the blur tool to make it look more gruesome. then I used the smudge tool to smudge the lines of the chain thang to make it look like I wanted.
then back in bryce I created the metaball and brought it over in photoshop to create the string thingies hanging off the sides and bottom of the ring. last thing I did was add the rest of the skulls and blur them.
not sure if this meets the challenge criteria doing it this way but I have no idea how to actually create models. I"m lucky to be able to write my own name, so using graphic software has been an excellent way for me to create what's in my mind's eye.
just thought I'd let you know how I created this so anyone else that's as graphically challenged as I am can pick up some tips.
