"My name is John and I write software", what a scumbag I am that I'm not happy with the idea of people saying that it's OK to steal my ideas because it's difficult to protect them.
I'm curious...how are ppl stealing your ideas? Has your source code been stolen?
I understand how piracy CAN effect developers, but how does it effect the actual coding team. Weren't you already paid by salary/wage or contract?
OR
Are you on some sort of bizzare contract where you are only paid per licence sold?

Ooh yes....good points lanaloe77. This could very well be RAM related. Purdon, try lanaloe77s suggestions 1st.

SVDL --clapclapclap bravo. Finally someone with some sense. SVDL is spot-on. Good cheap software WITH incentives to own the originals, be it for the manuals, posters, give-aways etc, is the best way to go. Don't foret folks...It's all about profits for the shareholders. Don't for one second think that software companies implement these stupid anti-piracy systems for the benefit of it's users. Don't fall for the bullshit.

Sounds like it's your video card drivers. By default windows is "set" to restart when it crashes.
Go to "My Computer/properties/advanced/startup and recovery/settings/" and UNtick "automatically restart". This way, when windows crashes the cause of the crash will be displayed in a BSOD(blue screen of death).
This should help you to narrow down the cause.
I'll be that it's a driver issue though.
NOTE: The latest drivers for you video card aren't always the best ones to use. make sure the drivers are MULTITHREADED.

Check that the altitude slider in terrain editor is as far right as possible. You can also type in your own percentage..ie 200%. Also try the equalize button 1st...upper right of terrain editor.

"It is possible to increase the 2GB per program limit under WinXP 32 to 3GB including virtual memory."
Executables that can use the 3-GB address space are required to have the bit IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE set in their image header. This requires E-on "the developer" of the executable, to have already specified a linker flag (/LARGEADDRESSAWARE)with in the executable.
Im' not sure if this is the case (I doubt it). Can some one from E-on confirm as to whether or not the (/LARGEADDRESSAWARE) linker flag is present with in the VUE5i .exe?

Totally a waste having more than 2gb with 32bit windows.
It's more about the swap disk space. When using VUE, up your swap disk space to avoid (Most of) the out of memory errors.
There are also plenty of "how to's" out there on optimizing disk cache/swap space- like having the swap file at the font of your fastest HardDisk. Just remember with VUE though, that you want PLENTY of swap space.
Also..is anyone using VUE on 64bit Windows yet?
It'll only run in 32bit emulation mode I know but, I'm curious as to whether it (64bit XP) takes advantage of the extra memory allocation available?
Cheers.

Ok...I'm not sure but, that mesh you are using looks like a Hankster rock formation..right?
If so, the mesh has "issues". I noticed when I imported some of them into Zbrush that they have tiny protrutions jutting out of the mesh in some places. Which can be repaired in zbrush. But as Agiel said.....there is an easier way..photoshop.

JavaJones said - "PSU's without enough power, heat issues, questionable RAM quality, overclocking, unnecessary resident programs, etc."
All true but, how does SP2 "fix" those issues?
It doesn't...as you said..it only highlights them.
The best fix would be to address "those" issues directly.
Which would negate the need for SP2 at all...no?
Also...Zak...Dual channel IS better/faster. If your RAM is hot..cool it...simple really!
Be aware though..that not all ram is equal.
Dodgey RAM IS the biigest issue in 99% of cases.
