Since Vue is gaining acceptance in many studios, I wouldn't be surprised if it has been used in some fashion.
Studios are generally shy about disclosing which tools they are using in their pipeline.
I wouldn't expect to see anything revealed about it on e-on's website until SIGGRAPH 2010, or at the very least, until Avatar is released in theaters.
Thread: Snow Leopard and Vue | Forum: Vue
Even plants ?
Both Vue 6 Infinite, Vue 7 Pioneer and Vue 7.4 Infinite are throwing error messages with plants over here.
Thread: Snow Leopard and Vue | Forum: Vue
I am afraid I have to report I ran into issues installing Snow Leopard over Vue Infinite.
On my laptop, Vue asked again for an activation key. On my desktop, activation was ok after the upgrade.
On both machines, loading many default plants now come with an error message about missing mat files in a temp folder '/private/tmp/username/eon/'. As a result, these plants come with many missing textures.
Some plants bring up an error of missing Cornucopia activation key or something like that (I iwll try to find out which plant gave me that message).
I am using Vue 7 Infinite with the 7.4 patch available at e-on's website.
I also did a full clean up (application + user preferences) and it is still happening, so it looks like it is related to Snow Leopard.
The rest of Vue seems to be working so far.
So be warned before making the jump.

I am supposed to receive my copy tomorrow.Keeping my fingers crossed for a smooth upgrade.
On a related note, here is a compatibility list for Snow Leopard (no Vue though).
Thread: Vue Forum Banners - Important questions | Forum: Vue
A couple of point to clarify the Banners Contest.
The word 'contest' comes from the fact i used the Contest system to manage entries. I did not want to have a real contest, with a winner, because I wanted it to be open for a very long time. Look at the submission dates on the contest page - banners were submitted for over 2 years.
And I wasn't what it meant to have a winner in a banner challenge anyway. Does that mean the winning banners would be the only ones used ? what about the others ? I wanted to use all of the entries, not just winning ones.
Regarding credits, you can see the name of authors on the contest page already. It is not ideal, I know. The banners are displayed randomly from a folder in the community pages of the forum. They are saved with the name of their author already. I was planning on displaying the name as credits in a caption line, but I didn't take the time to find out how to do that in PHP when I was working on it. It shouldn't be a lot of work for someone knowledgeable in PHP.
Looking at the number of submissions we got and the quality of each banner, I would like to think this challenge was successful. It did provide quality banners for the forum - something that was sorely lacking at the time.

Well... actually, SIGGRAPH is moving further away from NY.
2010 will be back in Los Angeles
2011 will be in... Vancouver, Canada
and if it's not far enough for you, there is still SIGGRAPH ASIA 2009, in Yokohama, Japan in December :)

Ah yes - pictures and SIGGRAPH. I almost forgot.Taking pictures at SIGGRAPH is tricky.
Traditionally, taking pictures is reserved to the press. This is something I still fail to understand, as SIGGRAPH is a very visual event and almost everybody who goes there has a camera somewhere (even if it is only their phone).
So in practice, people just ignore the restriction and take pictures anyway. Just look on flickr for Siggraph and you will see what I mean.
So, if you want to take pictures :
be discrete about it. No flash !
be prepared to have people tell you to put your camera away.
take a camera that can handle low / bad lighting. Fluorescent lights from the Exhibit are very bad. Absence of light in the Emerging Technologies section is worse.
Also, if you have questions about the passes, I suggest you contact a moderator or staff member.
I suppose you filled in the attached survey ?

I also took quite a few pictures from past years.
Some are in the archives of the home page news here at Renderosity ( here and here ). My whole collection is accessible at my flickr account.

I will not attend this year, but I have attended a few editions of SIGGRAPH in the past.
Take good shoes. You will walk a lot.
Pack light when going to the events, especially the Industry Exhibit. You will walk away with a lot of goodies, bags, handouts and probably other things you will buy there (books,DVDs, etc).
Study the program attentively. Depending on your level of access, you will have too many things to see and you will have to make difficult choices.
Even if all you do is going to the Exhibit, you can sign up for free classes, demos and walk away with some experience that you did not have before. Show up early if you want to sign up - classes fill out quickly.
SIGGRAPH is a blast. Have fun.

As far as I know:
Windows 32bits is limited to 4 Gb.
Windows 64bits has no such limit.
Thread: 3D Magix - A rip off of Blender | Forum: Blender
Once again - the problem here is not about selling blender.
Selling Blender is allowed, under the right conditions. Just like people can sell distributions of Linux, even though Linux is free.
The problems with his 'product' are that:
1- He did not mention Blender at all initially (making it look like it was his software)
2- He used pictures from other people and work, without authorization (including images not made with Blender)
3- He didn't seem to include sources of Blender (maybe just an impression from his ads though)
Rebranding it as Blender + Video Tutorials (the real 'product' here) is a step in the right direction, although it doesn't change that the first attempts looked like he was selling the software as his own.

This guy really has brass ones. Even if he does have the right to repackage Blender and sell it (as long as he includes the source code), he is clearly violating a lot of things with his marketing.
The interesting thing is the level of maturity in the replies on the Blender forum. Very good.
Too bad for people who got suckered in into buying something that is essentially free.
Thread: Content Advisory = Automatic Boost in View Count? | Forum: Community Center
It is particularly interesting since, if you look at the Most Viewed gallery for example, a lot of images there are flagged as 'Nudity' and in fact, contain very little or no nudity at all.
