PC: My standard answer these days is "good for a shaky old man" (Parkinson's). Most times I have the camera on at least a monopod for stability. A new/old interest in pinhole photography. I need to brush up so I can teach the grandchildren. Bill

Depending on tools available. You can brighten the area or duplicate the picture to another layer and try various "add" or "if lighter" merges . Another would be to cut and paste the original section into the pan shot. Since the original has lens flare the use of a brightening tool would a place to start. Bill
Thread: saint of the bird bath | Forum: Photography
Maybe the background should have been more subtle in the technique to soften. The bird bath is very real and the background almost non-objective. Try layers where the background is given an "effect" and then the isolated object is placed on top. Coloring is there and the subject and basin are not hard to isolate. Bill

the way to photograher's heart is new equipment that improves to results. Tranquil scene though.

A real challenge to get what you visualize. I wonder if several exposures Layered could give same effect that we see. Considering the dynamic range of light. Bill

Speaking of filters. Does anyone know the rebalance settings for color negative film. I can get some very old stuff digital if I can covert it. Some of the negatives are of my late son. Nice job on the underwater conversion. Bill
Thread: Digital vs. Film...? | Forum: Photography
peterke said it mostly from my point of view. Film will always have its uses and there are areas where digital will not be practical. The "tipping point" occurs when pro type digital is priced the same as pro type film cameras. HAving spent several years learning wet darkroom techniques, both technical and artistic makes you appreciate the ease of pixels for a lot of tasks. At the fine art level film has an edge. Yet check out the Fred Miranda site. Bill

Yup! It's the pathway and the posts. Messes with the expected horizon and the posts look out of place. Try a stunt that I have used recently.Eliminate the objectional items or demphasize them. Turn the background into a painting, sketch or so on then place the the beautiful bride on a layer above. You have the makings of great keepsake. Bill
Thread: stalking the wild squirrel | Forum: Photography
Yea, I have a yard full of them wild critters. I believe you ambushed this one. A very typical view of them though. You can train them to eat from your hand. But they get over ready to eat an get a finger. Bill

You have the good eye. Nos. 2 & 4 are very artistic compositions. I particularly liked the entrance for its mixture of color and texture. No.5 is startling in the scene itself. It makes you want to be there. Bill

Your first picture would serve as background for any number of creative ideas. Exposure under these conditions is tricky. Good job.

Nice work. You have managed to go from snapshot to an architecture image that is certainly more appealling bill
