well, thx for the break from work. I know i've gone a bit overboard here, but there are just so many moods that can be conveyed with a crop. In the end tho, its up to the artist to render his/her intent. What are you trying to express with your pic? Is there a statement to be made, or like me, do you just want to present eye-candy? Am i helping? or am i just babbling? 8)

Ack! the issues i'm having to confront right now..it would surely make all of you laugh incredibly hard seeing me out in the field in my many modes of observation. I've been known to chase for blocks in hopes of capturing that magic which happens not nearly enough, but still quite often.

My advice Jack would be to have no doubt and to take the picture whenever-wherever-and as-soon-as you see it . Often i can get the first shot or two in before they even know i'm there... Regret sucks! so i try to avoid it.
Gosh jordy, sounds like you and i have a few things in common. My fav is to pretend im just making adjustments to my camera and to seem entirely disinterested in them. It's cruel, i know. But it's definitely the most effective. I've fooled many a mullet! At least 6 today, in fact...8)

my 2. i'm a bit of a contrast freak myself.... the color version was done in Lab, the b&w was converted from Lab, and the weird one was done using a gradient map. All images have been sharpened and a magic contrast technique was applied to bring out the dew. BTW, if you havent used gradient mapping give it a shot. Its defintely the most interesting way to make a duotone, as it much more understandable and gives you easily controllable results. Duotone mode is great when you have to go on press, but it blows for just laying down color on an image.

this actually is from a Drag Show called Peacock in the Park. It happens every year in a beautiful ampitheater in the Portland Rose Gardens overlooking downtown.
Its quite the site to see!

walk!? you shoulda seen him run! He'd get this wild hair up his butt and do laps around the house, fly up and down the stairs... all on hardwoods, so he'd slip and slide all over the place. it was the craziest thing i ever did see...
