If you could get the person you are modelling to stay still enough, the mesh will be good - but may not be optimal for bending at the joints. I think this process is better suited to props. The biggest issue is the texturemaps have baked on lighting, highlights, etc.

Thought about getting Octane because of the speed, but it's pretty pricey. Not even sure how it would work with animations.
If you use the OctaneRender for Poser plugin, it works very well for animations - and you have a lot of control over which things get refreshed each frame, so you can max the speed to your requirements. OctaneRender Standalone will not render animations from Poser (since it requires Alembic format for animations).
Octane render is expensive and if its worth is up to you,I would say,yes is worth it too,I've used only demo, but for my needs I would need something like 12GB GeForce at least, because my scenes are bit bigger
12GB? I suspect you have an error in your calculations. I would think it very rare to require more than 3GB of VRAM for a Poser scene.

Thread: Poser, Revit and Trying to Render Architecture | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I can only speak for OctaneRender for Revit (and yes, I know that's not an option for you).....in that plugin you can select a Revit family instance and assign a proxy to it. The proxy is either an OBJ (A clothed and posed Poser figure exported as OBJ works) or a pre-packaged Octane Standalone geometry element. Then when you render in Octane from the plugin, that OBJ proxy (the Poser human figure in this case) renders in the scene in place of the family instance. You can then scale, rotate, move and change the materials of the proxy geometry object. This is all done from within Revit - no need to export to another modelling or rendering app.
Going from Revit to Poser is unlikely to work - because when you export from Revit the materials are lost. A workflow that might work is going from Revit to 3ds max (since I think 3ds max can read the Revit material libraries), then export to OBJ and import into Poser.
The other thing to consider is that unbiased renderers are typically very slow at rendering interiors (since they have to process ray bounces through glass, etc) - so you want the fastest renderer possible.

Thread: Focal Length Value For An Exact 90 Degree FOV ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My apologies for coming into this discussion late - and I have not read most of the thread - so sorry if this has already been mentioned. The Octane plugin pretty accurately determines the camera position and fov for both the main Poser camera, and the dolly camera (the formula is different for each).
HORIZONTAL fov = 2.0 * math.atan ( ( FilmbackWidth / 2.0 ) / fl ) * 180.0 / math.pi
... where fl = the camera focal length. FilmBackWidth is 26 for Main/Aux cameras and 22 for Dollys.
If you want vertical or diagonal fov, more calcs are needed - and I have the formula's somewhere.
The camera position for Dolly's it's the DollyX/Y/Z position. For the main/aux camera it is 1.8 meters (not poser units) behind the DollyX/Y/Z position - where "behind" is the inverse vector from the view vector.

Thread: Poser > Octane for following spotlight | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Firstly - make sure you tick "Refresh Geometry Each Frame" when rendering the animation - so ensure the new rotations/positions of objects are loaded into Octane.
- the (additional) rotation of objects due to PointAt is not communicated to Octane (as the xyz-Rotate values in Poser don't change either). So the spot following the character will not communicate its rotation to Octane, and hence will not rotate the emitter in Octane. But also ... when I move an eyetarget through the scene, the eyes will follow ... in Poser, but not in Octane. I have to inverse-handle the PointAt, can do, but good to be aware.
I found "Point At" objects where rotated correctly in Octane - although you need to do Refresh if you move the source of the rotation. For example, select Andy's head, and Point At the main camera, and when you move the camera and refresh the Octane scene, Andys head is aligned correctly. I tried to Point At a spotlight to a figure, but then when I moved the figure, the light didn't move - so there might be an issue in Poser with this.

Render pass output for lighting layers – this feature allows users to produce images for each render pass that constitutes an image such as reflections, refractions, normal, direct and indirect lighting, normals, material id, object id, SSS, wireframe, emitters, etc.
Speed increase - people are reporting an effective render speed increase of 30% and greater. This is achieved through some changes to the renderer, together with additional kernel controls.
The Poser plugin has been updated and released to include the above changes.

Above is a link to a video showing the OctaneRender for Poser integration with HDR Light Studio. The initial implementation will be in the next release of the Poser plugin (for Octane 2.05.1). The HDR Light Studio options in the plugin will only be available if you have HDR Light Studio installed. Initially you will need a license for HDR Light Studio, however Lightmap may consider releasing a Poser plugin only version of HDR Light Studio, which may be at a lower price, but it will be a few weeks before any info on this will be available. The plugin will also work with the demo version of HDR Light Studio (however you cannot render high quality HDR images or save the HDR Light Studio project).

Thread: Python question: evaluated shader tree node output? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Michael - if you are using the Octane plugin, you just need to keyframe animate the color, bump amount, etc in the Poser material, and then when rendering the animation with the Octane plugin, tick the "Recovert materials each frame" checkbox - then the bump amount at that frame will be used to re-build the Octane material.

Really nice Michael. I am still trying to fine the optimum settings for strand hair, but if the hair is thick enough, setting the opacity to < 1 looks good (0.8?). Also, I think a glossy material for a high specular color, and an idex around 1.5.

Thread: OctaneRender for Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Anyone considering upgrading should take a look at this thread first:
There are also a lot of changes internal to the plugin which have changed the structure of how the Octane nodes are connected. So not much point comparing speeds. Most people have reported that images are becoming noise-free with fewing samples (and less time) though (due to the changes in how emitters are managed). And if speed is an issue, cloud rendering is just around the corner.
There are other positive things to come from the changes above - for example when you have "Live Update" on, the plugin is not recreating mesh nodes and reloading the geometry any more - it's only updating the vertex and normal positions - so that is way faster. Similarly when rendering animations - only the vertex and normal positions are updated each frame - not the entire mesh. Also, you can load the level 0 subd of the Poser mesh now and subd inside Octane, with initial tests on Andy showing a 2-3 x times scene load time reduction. The changes also mean you can Network Render, and when you change part of your Octane scene (the camera position for example), only the camera coord change gets sent to the slave PC, so it is updated almost instantly in a lot of cases. And finally, the node structure changes mean that you can export animations to Alembic format (wrapped inside the OCS/ORBX Octane format) - so scene assets (figure and their animations) can be exports and mix/matched inside Octane Standalone. Whilst this won't mean a lot to the hobbist, it is critical for studio who use this workflow.

How long will the upgrade for Poser be free? My internet access for my 3d Pc is down at the moment.
I'm not sure - but my best guess is a few weeks.

Thread: Tool to merge multiple textures into single texture | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have a python script which does this - and it works well, although you need to manually merge the diffuse, bump and specular texturemaps into one using Gimp, Photoshop etc. The python script just re-UV's the figure. It only works for Roxie or Antonia, but if you know python you would be able to modify it for V4. It also merges all the head and body materials into one. I can post if here if you like, but it's uncommented, unsupported code, so you'll need to know python to make any changes.
I originally wrote it so that I could subd figures and then edit the mesh for just the skin material in ZBrush.

***Octane. Invest time in the learning curve (lighting, materials), and money in nVidia hardware. Note: within a few weeks (I hope) Octane 2.0 will be issued, plus a renewed Poser plugin. It's worth the wait, to avoid eventual extra costs.***Octane 2 was released today. You can check out the Poser plugin features for Octane 2 at the link above.
