Thread: Calling all material experts | Forum: Bryce
Quote - Hi Jason, LTNS. Since the grass on the Veldt is so tall, it would be very hard, if not impossible to make a Bryce material that accurately represents it, at least for the foreground. How about using some of the grass clumps from Plan-it 3D, or 3dplants.com, with an appropriate material for the foreground grass.
You could then render some clumps of grass separately (with lighting to match your scene)and make a matching alpha with the mask render and fill up the background rows with 2d pics.. Flak and AS have both demonstrated this technique and it would seem to be a natch for this kind of scene. I just imported a clump, did a quick and dirty edit of a leaf material preset, and rendered. Just an idea I thought I'd share. Take care, Dan
Cool. Any way I can that mat?

Quote - Yeh, I got it, Jason! BTW, IMO I'd change the haze colour - it's a bit blue atm......your call. ;-)
Right. I do the atmosphere/sky stuff last.

Quote - LOL! I saw the pic and thought 'Oh, he wants to create the Giraffe skin......'
Nope. Just the grass.

Quote - Bryce doesn't automatically handle the transmapping of hair objects. You need to add the transmap in the Material Editor using the Leo tool. Once you've done that, you should be okay. If you need visuals, just let me know and I'll post some screenshots.
Visuals please.
Is the transmap a separate file? Sorry if I appear clueless.
Some hair transfers fine (color and everything). Other hair looks okay except it's grey.

This is #9, an image trying to duplicate a Thomas Kinkade painting with the same name. Fairly difficult and one of my personal favorites.

#7 was a Terragen image, but this is #8. A dog from Daz, a couple benches modeled by me, some grass, a number of Bryce trees, a sphere, etc.

The next two most popular images were Terragen images, but this is #6. A swan from Daz with a willow tree (duplicated and rotated) from Scott Tucker I believe.

This was my third most popular image. It's a simple SOIP (spheres over infinite plane). Two glass spheres over a mirrored plane with a standard Bryce sky preset. Simple but people love it and buy it.

This was the second most popular image. It's basically a SOW. Or in this case, a SIW (spheres in water). I used a Bryce sky preset with very little modification, a water plane, and three metal spheres. I could reproduce this image in twenty minutes, but tons of people love it. In previous art sales, it was a top seller.

This was the most popular image. It's a nice landscape that took quite a while to create.
