jjroland is my name :)
Well it's my initials and then my last name. First name Jaci. I sign messages with that at least. Also have my store name on here but I can never remember the login info, doesn't matter, I'll never sell here again anyway.

Thread: are there any poses for Vicki 4 or Aiko 4 undressing? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thread: Dumb UVmapping for Poser questions | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I talked a little bit about other approaches to UV coordinates in this thread:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=3547177&ebot_calc_page#message_3547177
In that model, I experimented with establishing UV coordinates equal to yards, so that the first yard was 0 to 1, the second yard was 1 to 2, and so on.
The goal was to be able to set up a uniform wall scale so that wall paper textures (and shaders, which include texture scale) could be designed and built once and for all for any rooms I might make, no matter how long the walls are.
Adjusting the scale of the coordinates on the fly is possible in Poser, and as a result you frequently end up with the image map spanning 0 to x where x is not 1.
In that case, whatever the coordinates are of the prop, they are repeated module x, where x is the scaling factor of the texture. So, 1.1 does not always wrap to .1 - sometimes it stays as 1.1.
In other words, it's common to think that the coordinates are remapped modulo 1, but it's not the only way to handle the coordinates and Poser can do much more than that, supporting modulo x (any value you want).
By the way, when you mentioned that you're not sure if -.1 maps to .1 or .9, the answer is: it depends. If you choose "Mirror" mapping, it maps to .1. If you choose simple tiling (the default) it maps to .9.
Thanks for that link Bill, I will definitely be reading all of that thread. There are some parts straight away that I'm still not understanding. I feel almost like I'm going head first into the middle.
For instance, I'm still not sure how you look at a UVmap and see what is at 0.1 or .9. I don't see numbers anywhere in UVmapper and I don't know how that is determined. I personally would prefer to use procedurals on walls, outerwalls carpets etc.
I'm not great at setting up shaders and I looked high and low for some basic merchant resource shaders for painted walls and carpets, linoleum (sic?) etc. Marble and wood for counters and cabinets were easy to find. But the others not so much. Another vendor is working on a set now possibly but I'm not sure when those will come out.
In any regard, comprehending all of this UVmapping information still needs to happen. Even if I don't always intend to use it, I still want to be able to have a fair grasp of it.
I did download Blender and found a tutorial, but even that tutorial assumes some understanding first. I am hoping to not have to completely learn Blender just to UV map in it.
So many times over the years of teaching myself this stuff, I've been in this position of knowing that there is something that I don't know, but not even knowing what that is. It gets frustrating, but I'm persistant lol.

Quote - Just my 2 cents...
If all you are going to do is use Poser's color swatch for materials then don't uv map. But once you start to add a bump map or a texture map then you will need uv's. Materials give you different options in the material room, so your house walls can be stucco flat specular (material 1) and your windows can be high specular (material 2). To uv map your house I would use planar mapping on each wall and roof.
Very helpful info, thank you!!

Glen,
Since you have managed to contact him, why not ask for a copy of the manual? Never hurts to have it just in case. I'd offer to send it to you, but idk if that breaks any rules or laws.

Manual, not model.

Moriador,
I won't quote because then we would eventually have a novel, lol. As to wordiness, I am terrible with that as well.
I can see your point there. I've been pondering this a bit in between reading and looking for the ways in which I might be wrong in my stance. I realized that it was a bit hypocritical of me to ask Moderators to re-evaluate their opinions without being willing to do so with mine.
Right now I am still at a point of thinking that this situations is far to the right at present, and the middle would be a much better place.
However I am actively looking for some error in my thought process. It's a more personally productive approach to look for some way that I can improve rather than looking for flaws with another in any regard. So I'm fully intending on finding at least some aspect of this that I can view differently. Hopefully those on the other side of the fence will be willing to attempt that as well. If not, oh wells, I still get to improve.

This might seem redundant but have you made sure that the 'sexy chick preset' is at zero? On the body.
I'm by no means an expert on this but I have been involved in genital creation for V4 since she was released. Having spent months myself on trying to deal with her lacking poly count in that area and trying to create something that would have some semblance of a real female genital I can tell you without question that what was done with LaliBits is an amazing feat.
I will also add that it does work fine for me, as well as a person I have spent the last 3 months training who has absolutely zero prior poser experience.
You can search your computer for Lalibits and it should locate the manual for you.
Some history - the creator of this genital is a comic creator. Was not a regular vendor prior to this. He created Lalibits for his own use in his comic and because there were so many of us that saw it for what it was (ie head and shoulders above anything else available on the market for V4) He kindly set out to create something that the public could make use of as well.
Of course it is a product, and one that is paid for, so I would never say that one should not voice their opinions. But to talk about it as well as the creator in such a disparaging way when you plainly say yourself that you're not even looking at the model is off putting.
I have never had any issue with him getting back to me. It usually isn't within 5 minutes, most likely because he lives across the world from me and even content creators need sleep. There are some issues with it, the creator himself readily admits that.
If you've been using it for ages, it may be a little late to ask for a refund. Though since I know him to be a really decent and reasonable guy, I'm sure he'd give it to you anyway.
Please sitemail me when your amazing genitals for V4 are released. I'm a bit of a collector in that area so I will most certainly be in line for purchase.

Quote - So, you seem to think that you have the whip hand, instead of realizing that every time you chase away a member is a failure for you. Soon you will have no one left. No one need to ban me. It is enough to know I am not an asset. So good bye I wish you good luck.
I didn't get that AT ALL from what he said. This response seems a little melodramatic.
I truly believe that they simply do not realize what is being lost. Or realize that what is being lost is actually an asset. (Ends justify etc.)
They are not the gestapo for crying out loud, just humans trying to do a job. The debate here is about the best way to do that job. Which there are many different valid opinions on. It's not something to take personally as an end user.
Ambient, I stopped posting here regularly a loooooong time ago. There was a certain cat lady that was fairly active on the forums at the time and she managed to imo manipulate the moderators pretty successfully. During this time there were many threads that lost responses to counter her attacks, while her posts remained. That is when I began to get a bad taste in my mouth for what was going on. I don't think you were a moderator at the time, I don't think Basic was either. My memory sucks. I definitely can't remember the thread name.
So my personal experience is not with any current moderator. Exept in that our opinions on the methods differ greatly. I struggle because things are taken so darn personally on the internet and I have NO issue whatsoever on a personal level with any of the moderators. So it's tough to say "I disagree with the way you are doing things" without it being taken as a personal affront.
I still see what is happening when I come here to read, when even more rarely I come here to post. I get involved in these conversations because I have a special place in my heart for this community and I retain the hope that one day it might again be what it once was. Unfortunately I still only see people so steadfast in insisting that their way is the only right way that it's not looking good. (On both sides mind you). People completely unwilling to acknowledge that it is very unlikely that they are 100% right, therefore acknowledging that some percentage of what the other side says has merit.
It is very very clear, to less inundated eyes, that the censoring is driving the forum into the dust. Like I said in my previous post, you still have your percentage that like what it is and want it to stay that way, they vocally support this. The ones who don't in large part have left. I believe that the minority have won out.
Hard world facts are that forums are not democracies. So que sera sera. It does not matter one single bit what I want, what I think is best, how I think it is best achieved. What does matter is what the site owers think, or you moderators. I continue to hope that the conclusion will be reached at some point that activity is of high import and possibly some acknowledgment of reasons that it may have fallen off.

Quote - "Not deleting posts and threads is not an option. It's a rare forum..."
A forum that the poser forum management would do well to examine is CGSociety. Their moderators are far more restrict and delete at most one post a month or something like that. Neither do they have any problem with "spambots and trolls". IMO the current policy of this forum is wrong and to the detriment of us all.
Agree agree agree agree agree.
I have been and will continue to be completely mystified by the business approach to this. For simplicities sake I will use simple numbers.
You once had 50 users. Now you have 10. The ten people left keep telling you that they love the way you are doing things. Occassionally one of the 40 comes back and tells you that they don't. But at that point, it's 1 against ten. So instead of listening to those who left, continue to listen to the few that stayed.
I guess a reason it's so baffling to me is that I have ALWAYS been a person able to reevaluate my positions and actions. I look at what the likely long term results are as well as short term. I take other positions into consideration. I feel this approach is the most beneficial to me.
Here this forum, and the handling of it seems to me to be the frog in the pot. We're at a slow simmer now. And the frog stays in the pot. Not even willing to say "hey my skin feels a little warm".

Thread: Is it possible to save a pose for a prop? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't want to parent the prop to a figure. or save it as a smart prop.
I want to have a pz2 that changes it's location in a scene. Like if I had a chair and I wanted it next to a door, or in another room. I would like to create a pose for it, to change its position.
(when I posted last there was only one response, so I apologize that I didn't address the other comments in that)
I have successfully used Poser writer panel to save the pose. But it's still behaving strangely in that I have to actually move something else in the scene before the pose applies.

Thread: Is it possible to save a pose for a prop? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
That would work if it was for my own personal use. But I want to share this pose and it's not my prop to start with.
Poser writer seems to save it. Only it behaves wierd. You apply the pose, and the parameters dials SAY it has worked. Only nothing changes until I move something else in the scene.
Very odd.
